Argumentative Essay On Nuclear Energy
One of the most pressing topics of debate in the recent years has been the different sources of energy and their effects on the environment. People have started to realize the negative effects of non–renewable energy, such as greenhouse gas emissions and other negative effects on the environment, but neglect to take action and implement more ecofriendly energy sources. For the past 300 years the world has been predominantly powered by coal and other non–renewable energy sources, but now it is time to move past these energy sources and transition to more efficient, clean energy like nuclear energy. In those past three centuries, we have learned a lot about how fossil fuels effect the environment, while also discovering clean energy sources that can replace the outdated energy sources. In this essay, I will argue that nuclear energy is the solution to the energy debate and prove that it is the best energy source based on its effect on the environment, economy and energy efficiency. It is an undeniable fact that greenhouse gas emissions are having a negative effect on the environment which is causing a raising global temperature. This process is called global warming and although scientist believe it is natural to some extent, there is also many scientific publications linking greenhouse gas emissions to accelerated global warming. However, since nuclear energy is a clean energy source, nuclear energy doesn't emit greenhouse gases which would help slow down the process of
Argumentative Essay On Cyber Bullying

Mrs. Crenshaw
ENGL 2010
18 October 2017 The idea of cyberbullying is truly frightening, and the arrival of modern technology and the rise of social network make it even worst. With the invention of the Internet and its mass commercial use, some people might not have foreseen the issue of "cyberbullying" and how harmful it can really be. Cyberbullying is a real phenomenon that has been present for some time. Cyberbullying is defined as the use of the Internet and technology to purposely harm another person in a hostile way. Cyberbullying has become a hot topic in our media lately and researchers have been looking more into this realm ever since it started to grow rapidly. There have been numerous stories in the media lately...show more content...
It is true that cyberbullying can occur in variety of ways especially with the high increase in online activity that these teens have access to. As a matter of fact, "the electronic venue, has evolved in which youth of all ages spend a considerable portion of their days interacting and dialoguing in cyberspace, where the language has changed and adapted to net–speak, identities can be protected, and personalities changed, and youth are faced with new and almost limitless liberties to interact and role–play" (Cassidy 384). I believe that because cyberbullying occurs through these different devices makes it easier for these teens to target their victims and can conceal their identities most of the time. In our school system today, teens have access to multiple devices. This is a big aspect of why there is such a huge problem because these teens have so many accessible form of electronic communication devices and it creates more possibility for it to occur in school.
Teens are always connected or wired, and communicate in ways that are often unknown by adults and away from their supervision, which make it hard for school administration or parents to control or prevent the nature of this problem. Keith and Martin states that "Safety Violence Specialist at
Persuasive Essay On STEM Education
Everyone wants what is best for their children, right? If that is true, then schools need to start preparing their students for the challenges they will meet in college and the skills to overcome them. This is best done through the presence of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in middle and high schools. Through Wisconsin schools furthering their focus on STEM with extracurriculars, students will gain vital skills that are necessary for human progression, problem–solving and time management skills that can be used in real life, and the students learn how they can apply what is being taught in the classroom to real obstacles and challenges. It is clear that STEM is a rapidly growing and advancing field that is needed for our human progression. There are so many different professions that fall under STEM education and many of them impact the world every day. According to former President Barack Obama "[Science] is more than a school subject, or the periodic table, or the properties of waves. It is an approach to the world, a critical way to understand and explore and engage with the world, and then have the capacity to change that world" (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Here, former President Obama is talking about how important science is as more than just a school subject; science can be taken out of school and used to impact many people and change the world. Some may say that there have been other fields in history that became very popular but
Argumentative Essay On Stereotyping
Racial Stereotypes As a little girl, I was ashamed to be Indian. This was due to all the negative stereotypes surrounding my race. In my childhood, I heard people say Indians were smelly, stingy, and stuck up (alliteration). In fear of being teased and misjudged, I tried to be as "normal" as possible to make everyone forget that I was Indian (pathos). As I grew older, I learned to be proud of who I am, but disregarding stereotypes is still a challenge. I am sure everyone in this room has been affected by racial stereotypes before and believe me, I know what you are going through (ethos). You may think that only bigoted and prejudiced people used stereotypes, however, recent studies have shown that everyone categorizes people on a daily basis without even realizing it. Most people think stereotypes are just jokes, yet research proves that stereotypes have serious negative effects. People should stop stereotyping because stereotypes cause "stereotype threats", create social division, and lead to racism (parallelism). The first effect of stereotyping is a phenomenon known as "stereotype threat" that occurs in a situation where a person is in fear of unintentionally confirming a negative stereotype. Several studies have been conducted to discover the effects of stereotype threats. For example, I discovered that Toni Schmader, an assistant professor of the UA psychology department, and Michael Johns, a UA graduate (ethos), conducted studies that showed, "college women score lower on tests of mathematical ability, and Hispanic students might score lower on tests of intelligence, not because they have less ability, but because reminders of negative stereotypes temporarily decrease their 'working memory capacity' (UA News Services, "Exploring the Negative Consequences of Stereotyping", UANews.Arizona.edu)." This demonstrates that the students did not do worse on the test due to their lack of skills, but rather due to negative stereotypes. In a similar study by professors Claude Steele and Joshua Aronson, African American and White college students took the same intelligence test under two conditions. In the stereotype threat condition the students were told the test would evaluate their intelligence, and in the
Argumentative Reflection
Argumentative Essay Reflection One of my central struggles throughout high school has been writing essays and reports for all classes not just english. I was a little worried when I signed up to take this course, since it counted as a college credit. Even though I was worried about taking this course, but I am thankful that I did. The main reason behind my decision to take this course is because I thought it would better prepare me for college. This argumentative essay was one of the hardest essay that I have written. I have never written in this style before this essay. Even though, I have never been the best writer, I have always got good grades. After receiving my first rough draft I knew this class was not going to be easy. The part...show more content...
One of the areas of my writing where I was struggling in using my voice. Granite, there were parts of my essay where I successfully integrated quotes within my voice, but for the most part that was my weakest area. For example of one of my better integrated quotes, in my third paragraph when I say, "Today, consumers rely on social media for everything, whether it is communicating with old friends, finding new friends, shopping, researching, and staying informed with the latest news. Daniel adds that, "'Americans who take part in political activities on social networking sites also tend to be highly active in other areas of political or civic life'" (29), which insinuates that people rely on social media more today than we have in the past". This was one of my better examples because I further explain and analyze the quote in my voice instead of just ending the sentence after the quote. One of my poor examples is, "Many people who suffer from depression care a lot about what others think about them. That is why many of those people tend to turn to social media as an outlet to express their feelings". I made a bold statement and did not back up what I said with my voice I just ended that sentence and moved on. Instead of moving on I should have explained it further and told them why people tend to turn to social media to express their feelings. One of the areas of my writing where I was

Skills vs. Knowledge in Education
Jonan Donaldson
Introduction
Main Idea One: The Other Side – Learning Information is needed for tests a) Tests are the best way to compare students b) Tests measure if you understand something c) Not all students can have the same skills, but all can have the same knowledge
Main Idea Two: My Side 1 – Education is about understanding a) Knowledge is limited, but imagination encircles the world (creativity) b) Knowledge is what other people think about something, but understanding is what you think. c) Everybody sees, hears, feels, and thinks differently, so each person will have a different understanding of the same thing.

If a person knows many facts, it is impressive, but not very useful. It is of much greater importance to be able to find information quickly, organize that information, analyze and understand the main ideas, put different pieces of information together (synthesize), and create new information. Together these skills make what we call information management and innovation, the skills which are most desired in the business world. Most people in the world believe that education is about remembering things to take tests which measure one's performance against other people who have studied the same information. However, this idea no longer matches the reality of the modern world in which knowledge is less important than creativity and deep understanding. To be successful in the age of technology, education must focus on helping students gain information management and innovation skills.

Argumentative Essay On Sexual Abuse
Imagine being robbed of your innocence in a matter of seconds. Imagine not being able to speak out due to threats and fear of seeking help and not being taken seriously. Troubling, is it not? Sexual abuse has always been a problem in society that can affect anyone. Sexual abuse brings along many negative outcomes; however, throughout the years, sexual abuse has been a factor that has always been ignored. Even though sexual abuse has had many attempts to be avoided in various environments, all have failed. Many individuals tend to misinterpret sexual abuse and it's true delicacy. Although sexual abuse is often a violation against women, both genders can be victims. Victims can succumb to mental disorders, including PTSD and depression, which can initiate an unhealthy lifestyle to the point of triggering a contemplation of suicide. Nevertheless, sexual abuse has always been biased towards women relative to men for as long as we can remember. Considering the fact that sexual abuse can occur to both genders, it is mostly known to victimize women. One of the most common environments for sexual abuse to take place is in academic domains. In the view of society, men are above women; in consequence, women portray a weak image, hence making easier casualties of sexual abuse in the educational field. Due to the fact that students may need guidance to better excel in their career, some professors begin treating it as an opportunity to gain sexual access from the student. To better illustrate the idea that sexual abuse makes its way through into academic environments, take the word from the victims themselves. "I was naive enough to think that we would talk about Wittgenstein, but after he flopped over me a few times, telling me that I had to have sex with him... I made my escape" (Whitley 39). Moreover, another victim said "I couldn't say 'no' because he would have responded with rage and revenge. He would have ruined my career"(Whitley 39). In both cases, these women were attacked by the professors for being of lesser status; they were manipulated to remain silent by fear, threats, and their dependence on the professor for academic help. Due to the idea that women are viewed lesser than men, inflicts professors' to
Argumentative Essay On Stress And Depression
It's so common for people to conflate stress and anxiety that the two terms are often considered synonyms for one another. Even so, experts say that these are actually not the same thing, and the differences are, perhaps, best enumerated in the panel discussion held at the Enloe Facebook Live event hosted Thursday, "Keep Holiday Stress at Bay." Health professionals unpacked the differences between anxiety, stress and depression. Additionally, new studies suggest that stress is able to reprogram cells and that certain kinds of anxiety can be born of genetic predisposition.
Debbie Strukan, an Enloe health professional and nurse manager, hosted a 45–minute talk with Patty Principi, an occupational therapist and also an Enloe health professional. "There's a difference between [anxiety, stress and depression] and we'll break that down in this event," Strukan explained in advance of the event when talking about the discussion topic. Enloe's coordinator of communications and media, Christina Chavira spoke to the fact that this kind of misunderstanding regarding mental health can be remedied with increased awareness, which is what the live event was all about.
"Mental health is among the top three health issues for Butte County, according to feedback we gather from the community, publicly available data and inpatient hospital data. Countywide, substance abuse and mental health are a top area of focus. The Facebook live event is one helpful tool in this area because it
Examples Of Argumentative Essay
Argumentative essay presents a point of view about something and explains the reasons in order to win readers' agreement. It is built around a specific statement (or main premise) that is debatable within the field in which students are studying. In other words, at the center of an argumentative essay is a statement with which readers may disagree. The argumentative essay will need to support that statement in a manner that convinces the readers of its truth. It mainly strives to convince the reader of the writer's point of view, using reasonable and ethical methods .The process of argument composition varies from writer to writer, most writers follow these three stages: forming an argument, which can consist of discovering a motive for writing and identifying an audience to address, discovering and sharpening a position, and developing an appropriate style; supporting the argument; and reviewing the argument, which can include considering the image projected by argument, making substantial additions or deletions to a first draft, and adding an introduction and conclusion (Cheng and Chen 2009, Day,1997, Liu,2005,Mayberry,2009)....show more content...

Mr. Uter stated that the unknown female was never left inside the vehicle by herself. The officer asked her for her name and some other information and they let her go.

Argumentative Essay About Gender Roles
Ever since the dawn of time, women and men have been associated with specific gender roles that can be seen controversial in the eyes of many. Traits and roles associated with a specific gender can be either innate or learned over time. Looking into the deeper concept of gender roles and stereotypes, it is clear that these fixed gender roles are not naturally born with, but rather taught, learned, or influenced by external forces. A prominent example that qualifies the idea that gender roles are not biological but rather learned by external forces is an article written by Katha Pollitt. In "Why Boys Don't Play with Dolls," Pollitt's main argument is that gender roles that gender roles are acquired by learning. In the text, she states the unimportance...show more content...
Porter reminiscences about his childhood experiences and how he and other boys were to strictly follow a set of rules that make a man a "man." No crying or acting weak in front of other men, for instance, would be idealistic for a strong man. Porter even recalls meeting a teen football player who was deeply saddened and wanted to express his emotions. The teen, however, was in front of his guy friends at the time and he just could not express any emotions in front of them because he would seem weak and girlish. Peer pressure and conforming to society has pressured the boy into falling into the trap once again. The teen learned to be tough since everyone else was tough and did not cry. This story is similar to Pollitt's statement on how "people aspire to what is possible and conform to what is necessary." The teen aspired to become a strong man but knew he had to conform to society in order to do so. Pressures from other kids and parents play a huge effect on stereotypes. The teen, if he did not conform to society, would be considered an outcast. People ccannot handle the fact of being called an outcast or abnormal. On the other side of the spectrum, others may agree that gender roles and stereotypes are purely biological. One might say that a child grows up without a father or mother figure still ends up learning specific gender roles. It is nearly impossible to have a child unscathed

Failure is the step towards success. Do you agree?
It is often assumed that failure is a deterrent to achievement. Rather, failure should be seen as a motivator for a person to keep trying until the objective or aim of a particular mission is fulfilled. Failure often times leads a person to feel helpless, disappointed and depressed. However, one should not allow this to set them back in trying to achieve the ultimate aim one has set out to do. Failure in the beginning can often be a powerful incentive to reassess one's position in wanting to achieve the particular aims; to analyse whether the purpose is worth the trouble the person has to undergo and the whether the obstacles are surmountable. Another disadvantage of being an only is that he lacks companionship. He has no brother or sister to confide in. Growing up as an only child can be very lonely. If you have siblings you will have to share everything, so you get less; but you also get less of the bad things. Siblings can support and comfort each in times of trouble. The elder siblings learn to care for the younger ones and the younger ones learn to respect their elder siblings and have someone to look up to besides their parents. You are more balanced person than an only child. Another advantage of having siblings is that your parents' attention is divided among your siblings. As a result, there is less pressure on you to perform well, be it academically or in other areas. Having siblings also means that you have companionship, the joy of caring and sharing, and security. I, personally, am happy that I am not an only child.
Students should not take up part time jobs. Discuss.
Nowadays, students love to have part–time jobs. Their parents approve it easily as they are said to gain experience from working. However, having a job is a big responsibility for a student. Before, teenagers at their age were working to help their family because of poverty. Nevertheless, they were actually eager to study and learn at school for their future. It was not the same as the teenagers nowadays where they are more likely competing to each other to have a job. Most of the
Argumentative Essay On Autism
Let's say you have a box of crayons. It represents ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), now inside the box you have different colors of crayons. Each color/crayon is a different disorder. The color we want to talk about today is teal, the official color for autism. Stuart Duncan once said, "Autism, like a rainbow, has a bright side and a dark side and even though it can mean rough waters it can be beautiful." Autism isn't a label, it's a diagnoses. People with autism can be just as successful as neurotypical people. People with autism have been the subject of stereotypes and neglect for decades. Only in the last 150 years or so have things started to change. We don't know what causes autism, but thanks to increased research and awareness we're making more progress than ever. People with autism face many challenges everyday, autism is a spectrum. It's not the same for everyone. Due to it being a spectrum it can be hard for people without autism to understand the challenges autistic people face, and how to go about interacting with autistic people. There are lots of autistic people worldwide, it's time we start making them feel more like people. 1 in 68 people in the US have autism, this includes 1 in 189 girls and 1 in 42 boys. Autism is a difference in perception; technically it's a developmental disorder that is the result of a difference in brain chemicals. Scientists don't know what causes autism or why it's stayed in the human gene pool for so long. People with autism could have a wide variety of symptoms, but some of the most common characteristics are fixations on things they like, reliance on routines, and lack of social skills. Autism can be formally diagnosed at ages as young as 3. There is no medical test to diagnose autism, rather a trained professional in the psychology field will perform a developmental screening and a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. When a child is diagnosed with autism, therapy is strongly recommended. The earlier treatment starts the better because certain aspects of the disorder can be lessened through therapy. Therapy helps the mind and the body, certain therapies can help rebuild your brain, so to speak. Autistic brains are physically different than neurotypical ones.
In order to have a good argumentative essay, there are a few important standards of critical thinking that is needed to be found in the essay such as the clearness, accuracy, importance or relevance, sufficiency, depth, breath and precision that is stated by Nosich. The strength of this argumentative essay is consider weak because it does not capture the interest of the reader and was not persuasive enough; even though from the introduction of the argumentative essay includes full sentences and a good opinion, the argumentative essay is all objective. The introduction includes too much of the emotional appeals, such as when it wrote " Day after day the number of people worshipping this icon has been growing since the birth of this creature. well to many it may seem harmless idol but in my opinion, Mickey Mouse is an 'devil in disguise' influencing the minds of young and old people to adopt the culture of the 'devil' which doesn't blend will with the moral values of society and should be banned". To improve the introduction, the writer should include of all objectives statements relative facts and appeals to the mind of people who agree or disagree with the topic.
Argumentative Essay On Water Pollution
In recent times, a popular issue that sparks much controversy amongst the population is Pollution. Since the Industrial Revolution, pollution has been rapidly increasing, whether it be air pollution or soil pollution, the effects are prevalent. From the Great Barrier Reef slowly dying, to the polar ice caps melting to climate change, pollution has been much more noticeable than in prior times. Although, it is clear that pollution is causing great issues for our environment, many fail to acknowledge the issue and or simply overlook the issues, especially if they do not notice how these issues affect them personally. These effects on our environment actually impact the human body and can affect different systems within the body such as the respiratory, reproductive or immune system. An issue that deserves recognition would be that of the affects of water pollution and access to clean water on the immune system. Water is an essential factor for the survival of human beings. As a matter of fact, life can occur on Earth because of water. Although, waster is an essential to life, there are many in have little to no access to clean water. Water is necessary because it can help nutrients travel within the body as well as filter out the kidneys. If one was to drink polluted water, then they are exposing their body's systems to harmful bacteria that can harm the different systems such as the respiratory, immune and nerve system. Exposure to water pollution and lack of access to
Argumentative Writing Rough Draft
Outline, planning, revising, rough and final draft, grading. This is the typical process for writing an essay, I however as a young high school student never followed this. I started with an idea in my head and go on from there. I never considered a need to plan and prepare an outline, just to write a rough draft that I would have to revise, draft, and draft again. It would just be easier to start writing the final draft first right? No. This class has taught me many strategies on how to accustom my writing to a college level. Over the semester in this class I have grown, learned how to effectively draft, and experienced argumentative writing first hand.
I, over the semester, have grown in both literacy and critical thinking. A direct comment from Mr. Gish on the first essay I wrote for the class was "Nice reading!" to this sentence in the essay "This continues to show that people in poverty aren't charity cases, but rather they are human beings.". This comment, along with others, shows me that I am capable to effectively write in one of the worst essays that I have written. The reason for this growth was the support of both my friends and family. My father would help me with grammatical errors and final revision decisions in some essays. This growth happened slowly with a lot of effort put towards it. An example from my first essay is "First and foremost, Gordon Park's imagery throughout his composition." this is the topic sentence to a short paragraph in the beginning of
