The First And Hardest Part Of Writing An Essay
The first and hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out how to start. A professor may give a topic to be written about, but in some cases that may not happen. The first step is to pick a topic. The topic will serve as your thesis. You want to pick a topic that you are relatively knowledgeable about so you are not completely in the dark. By picking a topic that you know even a little about, will take away the anxiety of not knowing where to start or what to write about. If you chose to challenge yourself and write a paper about something you are novice about, then you want to pick a topic that is broad enough to find enough information about. For example, if you want to write a paper about cars, do not make cars what your paper is about, because although it is a broad topic it is also somewhat narrow. Try to broaden your topic buy changing it to, "how cars have changed our lives." Changing your topic to a more argumentative thesis gives you a pinpoint area to write about and leaves the door open to give you more to write about. The second step, and what I believe to be the most important step is locating sources to support your thesis. A research essay without sources becomes an opinion essay, and that is what you as the writer want to stay away from. Sources make your essay more creditable. If your essay is about "how technology has benefited students and teachers in the classrooms," then you should find sources that are about how technology is used in
Australian Aborigines Essay
Australian Aborigines
Australian Aborigines are thought to have the longest continuous cultural history in the world. Yet, within a hundred years, the near extinction of the Aboriginal culture almost occurred. This single event, the invasion of the Australian continent by European settlers, changed the lifestyle, the culture, and the fate of Australian Aborigines. Their entire lives were essentially taken away and they were forced into a white, European world where the lifestyle change could not have been any different. Aborigines in Australia today are struggling to deal with a past in which they lost touch with their culture and now are trying to regain some of that cultural identity.

Australian Aborigines believe that to destroy or damage a sacred site threatens not only the present inhabitants but also the spiritual inhabitants of the land. Broome described that "Each tribe believed that its boundaries were fixed and validated by the stories about the movements of their ancestors, and therefore there was no reason to desire or try to possess the country of another group: it would have seemed meaningless to them since their creation stories only related to their own piece of territory" (14). Australian Aborigines traveled around a land that was a symbolic and religious world. There were not simply rocks, trees, and watering holes but they were objects and places that the great ancestors had created and places where they still lived. The Aboriginal culture stressed continuity over change.
The question of intertribal trading and communication occurring between Aboriginal groups is one that is not agreed upon by investigators of the culture. Broome described in his book, Aboriginal Australians, some trading between groups but did not place an emphasis on it. In fact, Broome seemed to describe a slow response to European presence because of the lack of sufficient communication between groups (36). However, Reynolds in The Other Side of the
Explain The Pre-Writing Process
When it comes to the stages of writing there are five stages a writer has to go through and they are; prewriting, writing, writing, revision, editing, and publishing. Pre–writing is the first stage of writing, and looking back at my graded Visual Evaluation Essay I could have had a better written essay if I had acknowledged the pre–writing process. I usually do not pre–write for any of my essays, and this affected my grade for my Visual Evaluation Essay because pre–writing gives you the opportunity to free write, brainstorm, and plan the structure of you essay. The next step after the pre–writing process is the writing stage. The writing stage is a build up of the pre–writing stage, and is the stage where you make your fist rough draft without
Essay on Stephen King
Stephen King is known by many as a successful author, but every author is only as good as his or her works. King has produced various types of works such as short stories, novels, novellas, screenplays, and comics. His work has been the "most important bridge between the horror genre and literary respectability from the late 1960s and 1970s up to the present time" (Hoppenstand 3). Stephen Edwin King was born September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine. He is the second son of Donald Edwin and Nellie Ruth King. When King was two years old, his father, a captain in the merchant marines, went out to buy a pack of cigarettes and never returned. Nellie, King's mother, raised King and his adopted older brother David. The family under the care of...show more content...
King graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1966 and enrolled at the University of Maine in Orono that same year. At the University of Maine, he pursued a degree in English. He also wrote a column, "King's Garbage Truck" for the campus newspaper, The Maine Campus, and submitted short stories to various publications. In 1967, King made his first professional sale when Startling Mystery Stories purchased his short story "The Glass Floor" for thirty–five dollars (Hoppenstand 8–9). In the introduction of the reprinted version of "The Glass Floor" in Weird Tales, King gives his audience his own self–criticism when he claims: "The first few pages are clumsy and badly written–clearly the product of an unformed story–teller's mind–but the last bit pays off better than I remembered" (King "The Glass Floor" 36). "The Glass Floor" cleverly explores the character of Charles Wharton, who wishes to see the place where his sister Janine died. Janie's late husband Anthony Reynard, refuses to allow Charles to see the sealed room. Eventually Charles enters the room and finds out that it only has a glass floor and ceiling. He soon loses his balance and dies. Charles' body is removed from the room and the doorway is plastered back up (King "The Glass Floor"). Later on, King graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1970 with a B.A. in English and qualified to teach at the high school level. He
My Pre-Writing Process
Prewriting defines any kind of opening work that comes first in the actual paper writing. It does not necessarily have to be writing. In Fact, prewriting can just be strenuous thinking about what you want to write your paper about. Personally, my favorite technique is journaling. I like this technique best because it is used as an on–going process. When using the other techniques, brainstorming, freewriting, clustering, mind mapping, and question–asking, they can wait until you have your paper assignment and are thinking about where to start. Journaling is great throughout your assignment with whatever material you could possibly be writing about. Also, it can involve pieces of all the previous techniques that where mentioned above. However,
The Pre Trial Process
Running Head: The Pre Trial Process
After a suspect is arrested and officially charged with a crime, he or she becomes a criminal defendant (Zalman, 2008). This step is significant in the criminal justice process because it brings several new sets of rules into play related to the defendant's trial. Before a criminal defendant can be tried however, a number of milestones must be met and several obligatory processes must be completed. These procedures are designed to ensure that a fair trial takes place (Zalman, 2008). As criminal justice professionals must work in the medium of truth in their day to day activities in order to maintain their ethical and professional integrity, understanding the pre trial process is vital.

Evidence may be presented by the prosecution in a manner intended to place the defendant at an unfair disadvantage. This evidence is a violation of his or her right to due process and right to fair trial when it is discovered to be untruthful and haphazardly presented to the jury (Zalman, 2008). This information can include a misleading testimony in which a witness withholds vital information that will negatively affect the defendant. Additionally, the prosecution can allow a testimony from a witness that is misinformed or ignorant, which can affect cross–examination from the defense. Since the purpose of cross–examining the witness is to obtain information that will weaken the testimony, a misinformed witness does not provide the defense with a useful basis (Zalman, 2008). Evidence presented by the prosecution must be researched and found truthful. The 1963 case of Brady v. Maryland illustrated misconduct on behalf of the prosecution in withholding evidence from the defense during pretrial proceedings (Zalman, 2008). Brady and his companion, Boblit were prosecuted for murder (Brady, 2010). Brady confessed to the prosecutor that he was at the scene of the murder, however did not actually commit the act (Brady, 2010). The prosecution received a written confession from Boblit that agreed with Brady's statements, however did not present this portion of the evidence during the pretrial (Brady, 2010). Consequently, the Maryland Court
Pre-Writing Process Analysis
after choosing a interested topic, I spend roughly twenty minutes for prewriting stage. Then, I refresh my brain by standing up, walking around or just closing my eyes and listening to relaxing instrumental music for thirty minutes. Later on when I come back to build my outline with fresher mind, I can carefully select the supportive ideas and get rid of the one which off the topic. I spend a lot of time to organize the ideas for my outline because having a well–arranged outline helps me stay focus on my assignment. The following stage is writing. I start to write after I left the outline aside for hours or a day (depending on how hard my assignment is). After that, I read my essay verbally to make sure that my papers have coherency and smooth

Pre– Research Paragraph
When writing a research paper you have to think of were to find the information. There are many websites today that you can use to find information for your topic. Some do not have the information that you are looking for. However, in others you will find a ton of information. Some sites that you can use now–a–days are Gale Engage,Britannica Encyclopedia, and SIRS that are all located in the same website which is iowaaeaonline.org. There are also a lot of other places to find information like a plain google search or maybe take a search in a library no matter if it is a school one or a public one. Pre Writing Techniques Essay
PRE WRITING TECHNIQUES
Prewriting is the first stage of the writing process, typically followed by drafting, revision, editing and publishing. Elements of prewriting may include planning, research, outlining, diagramming, storyboarding or clustering etc. Prewriting is important because it helps you generate ideas for writing.
Some of the prewriting techniques are:
1. Outlining
2. Free Writing
3. Thinking maps
4. Cubing
5. Directed Questioning
6. Note making and note taking
7. Brain storming
8. Clustering
9. Charting
10. Scanning
The detail of each skill along with its examples is given below. 1. Outlining
An outline is a document that briefly summarizes the information that will be included in a paper, book, speech, or...show more content...
Note taking is a technique which is used when a person is reading or hearing something for the first time and he is trying to jot down the key information so he can use it later. Note making is when you return to those notes and make notes on them. This means you just go through notes, put things into your own words or summarize them and highlight key points. This technique is useful while gathering information for a respective article from books and lectures etc. Examples: 1. This technique is helpful when you are going to study a language other than you mother tongue. Because it is not easy to remember a lot of knowledge and vocabulary of the secondary language in one attempt. So there will be a need to read it again to learn and remember more about new language.
2. If you are attending a technical lecture (e.g. related to some machine or something else), it is a good practice to make lecture notes because you might need them to make comprehensive understanding of the topic.
7. Brainstorming
It means thinking of as many ideas as possible in a short amount of time. Brainstorming involves capturing all of the thoughts, ideas, and fragments in your head and writing them down on paper. Brainstorming is an informal way of generating topics to write about, or points to make about your topic. The important point about brainstorming is that there should be no
Short Essay On Osiris
Osiris made his first major impact as the ruler of Egypt and his association with the king. This is seen early on in the history of Egypt after "the unification, the first pharaohs used the myths of the ancestral king to claim divine status for themselves." (O10) From this idea when the king died, he became the ruler of the underworld and was Osiris incarnate, thus creating a strong relation between the king and Osiris. While the king was alive, he was the son of Osiris, Horus. The association of Osiris with the kings after their death eventually spread to the common man over time. The underworld represented another world below, which those who died hoped to be received by Osiris. However, this was not always an easy journey through the underworld with various tests and trials. If they did pass the final judgment, they could then enjoy the benefits of the underworld like renewal and eternal life. As god of the underworld he had the power to renew life in the underworld, which helped his cult spread around Egypt and became intertwined with...show more content...
One important interaction was with the sun god Ra. Ra helped to counteract the darkness that the Egyptians associated with the underworld. Some of the Egyptian people believed that the underworld was a terrible place and viewed Osiris in a threatening dark image. However, this was mainly covered up by his association with the sun god and the king. The people continued to connect Ra with Osiris and the funeral ceremony that occurred in his legend. Osiris gave strength to Ra to bring the sun to the living and then to return to the underworld. They were seen as the "twin souls."(EGG 158) Osiris also interacted with the flooding of the Nile River to help renew the soil in both the underworld and in Egypt. Ra was not the only god Osiris was connected to. In the town of Memphis he was linked with the important bull god Apis, who was associated with the king and
The Pre-Raphaelites Essay
Pre–Raphaelites, a group made up of 19th–century English painters, poets, and critics who's work responded towards the practice of Victorian and neoclassical subject mater by developing bright imitations of religious work. More specifically, "and of the most beautiful are the paintings of the Pre–Raphaelite Brotherhood and their followers, bright and clear colours, fair women and themes from myths and legends."(Darkamber 1). The groups source of inspiration came from early Renaissance painters and medieval times. This was up until the time of the famous, well known, Raphael. Raphael was an Italian painter who imitated his teachers work so carefully that it was very difficult to decipher the two. His work also entailed architecture as did...show more content...
"They wanted to free art from the stranglehold of the Academy"(Darkamber 1). The qualities encompassed in the PRB's work, singled them out from all other groups at the time. The Royal Academy criticized them for being artificial because the PRB broke away and started to write, paint and sculpt under their own requirements. "First, their paintings were generally bright. Second, they had to be true to nature. Third, they had to have a taste for a significant subject – from mediaeval tales, from poetry, from religion"(Mudhole 2).
Pre–Raphaelite literary work was compared to the romantic era, but "rejected the Romantic's Dioynisian side embodied by Lord Byron"(The Germ 2). Rossetti's earliest literary work appeared in the Germ, which was when the PRB received lots of criticism from Charles Dickens. The PRB, received a lot of heat from the public. "The criticism garnered by the PRB was often derogatory, aiming to ridicule their 'backward' aims in painting technique, or the triteness of their poems."(PR_Critic 1). The PRB was on the whole criticized negatively until John Ruskin came to the rescue. At the time. Ruskin was a proclaimed and established art critic so his word carried well. He spoke highly of this form of art that followed the truth of nature, of an art that was beautiful because it depicted what wasn't perfected or over–beatified. John Ruskin left the PRB with this passage:
'go to nature in all singleness of
Essay On Pre-Assessment
After assessing the pre–assessment it can be concluded that a majority of the students understood that a rural community consisted of farm land but was not familiar with the other terms presented. In Second grade the students were introduced and briefly taught about rural, urban, and suburban communities. Prior to assigning the assessment I asked students to raise their hands if they had heard these three terms previously, all students raised their hands but said they couldn't remember what they meant entirely. Overall, students showed improvement of retaining and understanding the vocabulary after instruction was given throughout the unit. These are terms that students will continue to encounter in the following units to come as well as...show more content...
Students did not receive marks for the informal assessment throughout the unit, however it was referenced in the feedback provided to students. Student input through discussion, examples, and participation should never go unnoticed, however that is an area difficult and subjective to grading. There is no data to support participation, yet it is greatly appreciated and individually celebrated with the students. Throughout the unit I would encourage students to try their best, acknowledge that their efforts did not go unnoticed, and provided written feedback for guidance. To all the students who received this type of support showed growth in varying areas. Students were not seeking my approval at each step, began to have faith in their own abilities, and produced products they were proud to put their names on. A little encouragement went a long way in showing growth for all the students throughout the unit.
The learning goals were met because 9 students received a perfect 100% on the post–assessment; 5 other students had received a nearly perfect score by only missing one question. Out of 20 students 14 excelled at the post–assessment. Concerning the posters, 18 out of 19 students excelled received distinguished or proficient marks on their rural posters; 13 out of 17 students received distinguished or proficient marks on their urban posters. Therefore, looking

My Pre-Writing Process Analysis
My usual method for writing an essay made it hard for me to start and actually continue into writing it. I would first start out and open a word document; Then, I would try and figure out how I was going to write the entire paper in my head, which made it really difficult sometimes. Starting the essay was definitely my worst enemy because I didn't know what to start with or how to go about most papers. My method has changed since this class. I always knew what an outline was but now I have implemented it into my pre–writing. Before, I write I try to make an outline of all of the topics that will go into the essay. After, the outline is finished, the biggest lesson I've learned to get my paper started is to simply start typing. It doesn't matter...show more content...
It was also one of the most fun essays because I got to try to write a poem. I have never really tried to write a poem but always admired them. It was challenging in the fact because I really wanted my poem to rhyme. It took me thirty minutes to come up with about ten short lines for a poem. It was a long time to think about the rhymes I was going to use but it was challenging and fun for me. The easiest essay I wrote in this class was also very enjoyable. It was my essay about the golf tournament I went to. I included sensory details into it and hoped to bring people's attention to my writing through it. I enjoyed the essay a lot because it was a true story on a great experience I had in a golf tournament. The activities that assisted me in preparing for each essay were simply an outline. Although, I'm not sure if randomly typing to start an essay would qualify for an activity, it helped me a lot. The outline was very helpful for me to understand how my essay was going to be written. I can't remember what activities that were not helpful because I don't remember using any other ones other than the

Develop Pre-Writing Skills
Children between the ages of 1 to 3 years are considered toddlers and this is the stage when children are walking, learning to talk, learning the art of staying independent and mastering the fine motor skills in order to move around and participate in the environment. Fine motor skills develop naturally through appropriate toys, so kids need to explore and experiment with age appropriate toys, manipulatives and art materials to develop their motor skills.
Between the age of infancy and preschool, most toddlers go through stages of development in pre–writing skills. Being a parent, it is your responsibility to utilize several tactics to help progress their writing and learning skills.

Pre-Writing Challenges
Problems I face while writing an academic English papers is typically four problems. First problem I face is that I can not start the paper, (having different ideas about the topic prevents me from being able to identify which topic to write about. I also found that pre–writing is the solution for this issue I'm facing. I start my pre–writing with a question that I feel I how more about and that I am able to give efficient about the topic question. I know what I want to say, but I can't get it organized, that's my second problem while writing, I finally found a topic to speak about . After I'm done with my first draft I found that few information was conducted repeatedly through the draft which made me change the topic of my essay over and
