College Persuasive Essay Examples
A greater portion of society believes a good, fresh start is crucial to first impressions. It is immensely difficult to experience a new year without a fresh start. When you choose to start over, you aren't taken for all the cons you've performed. Instead, you are known for the person you are trying to become, or the person you have displayed in your first impression. This is important, for it changes the opinion someone once had about you. Persuasive Speech : Why Should College Be Free?
Specific purpose: At the end of the speech, students will be persuaded that college should be free. Central idea: Three reasons why college should be free: First, tuition and debt leads to attempted suicides. Second, the student and their family are affected by higher tuition cost. Third, high tuition fees diminish the amount of qualified job seekers in the career market. Introduction: 5 a.m. The alarm clock rings, on a normal day you would dread waking up so early. But today, is not your normal average day. Monday, August 21st, 2017, is the beginning of your first day of a new journey of college as a freshman; the nerves of the unknown lingers on as you sat in the classroom, awaiting your professor arrival. Suddenly, the door swung open and a tall, muscular, Caucasian male walked in, commanding the class attention by his demeanor. The nervousness intensifies as he proceeded to call on the attendance. This is it people! the moment everyone, including your family, have been waiting for; first–generation of your lineage to attend college. Name by name each student signified their attendance by raising their right arm when called upon, but, there's a problem, your name was not called on. What? How can it be? There's no way! you are overcome with complete and absolute shock; realizing you've been dropped from your classes due to financial aid issue. To continue enrolling, you would have to pay out of pocket. The excitement that was there before, no longer remains. Countless number of young adults are overwhelmed with the reality of college and paying for an education. For many students, each year, they are the recipient of such a catastrophic experience. Unfortunately, I was the victim of this heart–rending incident; imagine a society where financial aid and student loans did not exist, but instead, the necessity of these financial programs would diminish because college tuition would be free. My speech will be divided into two parts. The first part of my speech will be the problems of college tuition many students face. The second part will be solutions to these problems. At the end of my speech, I hope to persuade my fellow classmates that college tuition should be free. I. For many students, the stress that

Dear Editor,
High School is a very difficult and confusing time for most teenagers. Trying to balance schoolwork, family, social life, sports, etc., is very tricky. But learning to balance all of those things is what makes high school important. It sets the students up for life after high school. It teaches students very important life lessons that they will hopefully take into their lives after high school. High school is about turning into a well rounded person by doing well in school as well as balancing the time for other activities. That is why I agree{{remove I statements}} that in order to take place in after school activities, the students must achieve a B average or above; because students should learn to be well–rounded while still...show more content...
In school students getting good grades will help them get into better colleges. Yes, colleges do look for well–rounded students, but the first things that colleges look at are the gpa and standardized test scores. The colleges look at those things to see how well students learn and adapt to each class. Colleges know that each teacher has their own style of teaching, and each student has their own way of learning the material. So, the college wants to see if the student can adjust to each teacher and learn that material. If the student is able to adjust to the teacher and succeed in the class, the higher the grades will be. The higher the grades are, the better the chance of getting into a nicer college. If students get into a better college, there are more opportunities at hand, more opportunities for the student to succeed. Students should always follow their passions but in reality, only seven percent of high school athletes move on to college athletics. And, only two percent of all high school athletes go on to play in Division I athletics (Scholarship Stats). To conclude, students should uphold a B average or better to participate in after school activities because the better grades one has, the more opportunities they get from colleges. School and grades opens more doors than any after school club.{{well–supported
Persuasive Essay For College Students
Unlike most college students, I began my undergraduate career at the age of 16. With my youth came some naivete. The chance to offer advice to myself as an incoming freshman is an opportunity I would take in a heartbeat. I would dispense advice in three areas: academics, social life, and personal conduct.
In the past you have been a fairly strong student, but there are some pointers that you may want to heed. Although the laptop you were gifted as a graduation present may be a powerful tool, you probably should not take it to class. With your laptop's capacity to enrich your educational experience comes an equal if not greater capacity to distract you from class. Stick to a pencil and notebook as much as you can. Traditional note taking will improve both your memory and your GPA.
On a similar note, try not to overcomplicate school work. There is no need to reinvent the wheel with every assignment. Often, your old tried and true methods will work out the best. You may catch yourself searching for novel ways to complete course work. You will find this is nothing more than an advanced form of procrastination. Starting assignments as soon as they are assigned will help quell this problem. I hope this helps you spend fewer late nights fretting.
On the subject of late nights, a few more would not kill you. I am all too familiar with the ongoing battle in you between perfectionism and your love of sleep. That stated, your time will be a precious resource in the coming years. A

When I was in middle school, I ran track–specifically, the 1500 meter event. Every meet, I got last place. But I still received a ribbon–the same size, albeit not the color blue–of the first–place winner. As a kid who didn't really care about sports, I was never too upset over getting last–after all, someone had to. But I was always baffled by the fact that despite putting in minimal effort, I was still earning ribbons. To me, participating isn't an achievement, and nobody deserves a trophy for it–I assumed people participated for the enjoyment. I ran track, not for the ribbons, but because I loved running. However, as I've gotten older, I've come to understand that everyone does not hold the same philosophies as I. Over the past four...show more content...

I never achieved much in track, my times stayed consistent, and I never got a different colored ribbon or award. But I enjoyed the experience all the same. Just as life is about the journey, life is also about the twists and turns, the pit stops, the U–turns, the layovers, the delays, and all the "wasted" time. While many high school seniors are faced with the tough question of "where should I go to college," what if the real question is "should I even be going to college?" One should carefully consider their options before making a decision for life after high school. Those who are not ready for college or feel that college is not necessary for their career choice should consider not attending college and begin their career. For many high school graduates, college proves to be the next step in ensuring a successful future, yet for others, college is nonessential to the career they plan to pursue and should not be required.
College is optional; however, many are peer pressured into going to college though they are not ready. Because the majority of the population attends college immediately after high school, it is thought that college is simply the next step in life. Your junior year, when all of the adults are asking the same question, "What college are you going to?" Fast forward to your senior year and college applications are due. It seems as if all that is expected of highschoolers is to go to college. Four, or more, years of torcherous education that you are "supposed" to want. However, college is more that that. Along with monetary benefits such as a superior job and lower unemployment rates, college is an opportunity to learn more about the world and yourself. College is a profitable choice because even though it might not seem like it in the beginning, college helps with securing a better job. According to How College Shapes Lives: Understanding the Issues, from https://trends.collegeboard.org/ , the text states that, "In 2011, median earnings for 35– to 44–year–olds working full time who's highest degree was a bachelor's degree were $62,700, compared to $34,900 for high schools graduates (U.S. Census Bureau, 2011; calculations by the authors)." It is disclosed that these workers have a gap of $27,800 in their annual pay, just because of their education level. All of that money can be used to pay off loans, debts, pay for a house, car, and even be used to your freewill, like traveling or treats. Additionally, in The (Non–Monetary) Values of a College Degree, Elia Powers writes, "More than 66 percent of full–time employers with at least a bachelor's degree have access to pension plans, while only 53 percent of high school

Now it all comes together, when you apply to The Ohio State University your first year, with a 4.5 GPA and a 29 on your ACT it 's nearly impossible to get in, but then somehow your second year if you have at least a 2.0 GPA and a 22 on your ACT you can get in with no problem (The Ohio State University, 2017). This is a perfect example of how so many students feel they have to go to college when in reality they don 't, but feel pressured into it from everyone around them. Meanwhile they waste a whole year at college when they could have started working with a trade and making money rather than being in debt. Many of these students are work–bound but not college–bound.

I write to you with a heavy heart but with a hopeful mind. The Finnish government has made a decision to cut down from student funds and from our overall education system, and as a student this automatically concerns me and affects my life. Finland is known globally for its education system and how well it functions, so it does seem absurd that this is the region that our government is going to cut back. Persuading my parenting into letting me take a year off of college isn't an ideal situation they would like to hear. Of course, education is quite important for my future, but having a break would be beneficial. Persuasive Essay On Choosing A College
Deciding on a college is a stressful time in any student's life. All students deal with stress about their future after high school, regardless of whether they plan for college or not. Some may think that students are making the decision into something more difficult than it has to be; however, this is an incredibly important time in any student's life. It entails a lot of thought. Like putting on makeup, deciding on a school requires effort and creativity, but both can show who a person is. Choosing a school requires hard work and preparation, creativity for students to express themselves, and freedom to decide exactly what they want. To qualify for certain colleges, students must be focused throughout high school. Some schools can be selective on who they accept while others have high acceptance rates; some schools require classes that others do not. Students need to put in the effort and dedication to qualify for the schools they believe would be the best fit. For these students, grades are not something they can only put partial effort into. To maintain their grades, students keep track of their assignments and work hard throughout all of high school. Students get the option to be creative while choosing their schools because whatever school is chosen will be used to express themselves. After choosing a school, the student will strongly align themselves with that school. Schools offer merchandise because when students like a school they want to represent it; thus proves that many people use schools' names or logos as a means to express themselves. However, for prospective students finding a school to align with can be stressful. They have to know exactly what traits they desire. One thing people may consider: community college or university. Some go to community college because they are unsure of their major; some go to trade schools because they only want to learn skills for a certain job; some go straight to a four–year university; some students do not go to any college. A person's choice in their education depends on their personal preferences: how much work they are willing to put in, who they want to align with, and freedom to choose what they want to do.
Similarly, makeup requires a lot of
Safety on College Campuses Essay examples
Safety is a tremendous issue on college campuses, and additional procedures need to be taken to prevent crimes from happening. When walking onto a college campus as a young adult, people get a rush of the unknown. The unknown could be going to college parties and late night study groups. College should be like any high school or elementary school and have better security measures to protect their students. The reasons we need these extra steps are to prevent violence, give students a sense of security, and monitor visitors on campus.
First of all, violence can be prevented on campuses among the students once safety issues are put in place. There are several ways to prevent the violence including security cameras and metal detectors....show more content...
In another incident at Western Kentucky University, a young woman was raped, stabbed, and burned to death in her dorm. Everyone that entered the building was supposed to sign in and show identification in this case the one involved walked in without being questioned, he proceeded to her room where she was brutally murdered. When visitors are seen by security and made to sign in and show identification, it would help monitor the visitors in each building. Therefore, guards stationed outside of dorms at night would prevent unauthorized visitors in the building and the guards could personally identify who enters and leaves each building. Thirdly, visitors on a campus is not a bad thing, but they must be monitored for student safety. There have been other crimes on campuses like purse snatching in the middle of the day, car break–ins, and shoplifting at the school stores. In addition, the most up–to–date statistics show there were more than 35,000 reported crimes on U.S. college campuses in just one year. Furthermore, if a crime occurs the person involved can be identified easier by checking the log book and talking to security. Having more than one safety measure in place allows further evidence if something was to happen. The experience that occurs at college must reflect to younger generations that college is not a scary place, and that it is a safe and secure place as if they were at

If you drop out or don't go to school at all, you'll go nowhere. Life today, money is everything, and I think that the foundation of getting a good job is the education you get in the first 20–25 years of your life. School does not only teach subjects like English, Math, History, or Science, but it also lets us meet new people and build good character. To become trustworthy, you have to work your way up to become trusted by your classmates and/or close friends. If you are good at keeping secrets, that's one way to know you are trustworthy. But this does not show your employer that you are trustworthy. It's just something that you can tell your employer to show something about yourself that you are trustworthy. Also, some jobs require resumes in their applications. If you have been fired in a previous job because of stealing money or just being lazy, other jobs your try to apply for will be hard because they won't be able to trust you. That's why staying at a good school will help you build the trustworthy, responsible character you'll need to find a job you love. Loving what you do is something really important because it is something you have to go through until you retire when you're around 65 years old. It will really be hard to work in a job for over 30 years if you don't enjoy it. For example, if you don't get paid as much as you want and you also don't enjoy what you do, it could be because of the choices you made in school. If you want what's best for yourself that you know you love and you are good at, you should take advantage of the education you have before you graduate college. For example, if you know you are good at biology, and you think it is interesting, going towards the medical field and being a doctor might be the best option for you. If you are good and love biology but you
Persuasive Essay On Online Classes
Most people think highly of online classes; get to work from home, get to work on a flexible schedule, and anyone can do it. Though no one has heard the cons of taking one. I personally took three semesters of online classes in high school and had a horrible experience. Because of loose scheduling, poor communication, and the focus needed, online classes are not suitable for procrastinators. To give a better understanding, I will summarize my experience with the class. Me, being a procrastinator, thought to myself: I'll just work on the weekends and if I don't finish the class by the end of the school year, I can finish within the first few weeks of summer. This was a god awful plan. Unsurprisingly, close to nothing was accomplished on the weekends. Friends would ask me to hang out every weekend, and I did every time. Why would I want to work on my class on the weekend when I could be having fun? I would later regret this decision. On the days I stayed home and could have worked on the class, I completed nothing. On these days, I would tell myself: I'll just complete what I didn't do this weekend next weekend. This rarely happened. Thus, the cycle of getting nothing accomplished started. I disregarded my class for most of the first semester of junior year. With only nine assignments out of eighty finished after the first semester of the school year, I was immensely behind. I told myself to get my act together during second semester and grind out these two semesters
"And no matter what you want to do with your life, I guarantee that you'll need an education to do it." (Barack Obama) College is needed for many careers, whether you want to be a doctor, teacher, or vet, it will be required to obtain a college education. College has many benefits in the long run, from earning more money, increased job security, better health and much more. Going to college opens up a door of endless possibilities, which is why everyone should go to college.
First and foremost, achieving a college education is definitely more work, but it also helps college graduates earn more money than the average high school graduate or a high school dropout. According to the video, "Five Ways Ed Pays" developed by the College Board it explains that college graduates earn an average of 22,000 dollars more per year than high school graduates. Now considering that the average person needs to earn around 50,000 dollars a year to live comfortably, $22,000 is a generous portion of money. College Board also explained another statistic for college graduates, "A average of 63% more in hourly wages, than the average high school graduate." Meaning a college grad will have less stress due to them being more financially stable. Some may be thinking or saying that they are going to be rich without going to college, but our 44th president Barack Obama says something different. According to his speech, "America's Schoolchildren" he explains, "I know that you get that sense from TV that
Persuasive Essay On College Dropout
Community College Revamp Nearly nine million students enroll in community college annually. Unfortunately, only about 6.3 million of these students make it to their second year of school, and even less stay in school until their graduation ("College Dropout Rates," 2017). The New York Times article, "Revamping Community Colleges to Improve Graduation Rates," shows that, because so few freshmen make it through community college, certain measures should be put into action to increase the number of graduates and degrees (Tugend, 2016). Community colleges should be revamped to decrease college dropouts by distributing free tuition, making remedial classes optional, and offering more guidance to incoming freshmen.
Although some people believe that the cost of tuition is low for community college, one of the main reasons community college students drop out is because of their poor financial situations. Despite that a community college's tuition is only about a third of the cost of a university's tuition, community colleges still have an average annual tuition of 3,430 dollars (Tugend, 2016). For many students, this bill is simply too large, and it causes college students to drop out of school. To solve this problem, former president Barack Obama proposed a plan called America's College Promise, making community colleges tuition–free for responsible high school seniors (Tugend, 2016). Unfortunately, America's College Promise was not enacted, but the proposal did inspire several states to enforce similar bills. If every state passed a bill similar to Obama's, the citizens of the United States would be more educated. With a more educated people, it is likely that the population as a whole would make smarter decisions, and they would be able to solve some of the nation's most difficult problems more quickly and efficiently. In addition to wiser citizens, people would be happier because everyone would have the freedom to pursue an education without having to worry about the cost (Redd, 2017). Making community college tuition free would make the nation more successful and prosperous. Unfortunately, lack of financial aid is not the only reason that students continuously drop out of college; another reason
