My Favourite Book Is My Favorite Book
Knowing a person's favorite book could give some insight into who they are and what they are like. For example, knowing that a person's favorite book is The Art of War by Sun Tzu could mean that the person is competitive or aggressive. A reader's favorite book can range from many different time periods in their life, as well as, many different genres. Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, a book I read in my teenage years, is my favorite books. This is my favorite book due to the many different meaningful quotes used, the insanity of the main character, and the theme of the protection of innocence. A quotation is a way the author addresses a topic without directly saying what he or she means. In Catcher in the Rye, Salinger uses many different meaningful quotations that influence readers to stop and think. For example, in chapter 12, the main character states, "People always clap for the wrong things." Humans live in a "monkey see monkey do" world, which means that if one person does something everyone is going to try to do the same thing, no matter if the thing is good or bad. Salinger included the quote about clapping for the wrong things to open society's eyes and help people realize that maybe they do things not because they enjoy them, but because they see other people do them. Another meaningful quotation comes from chapter 24. The quote states, "The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to
My Favorite Class Essay
My favorite classes this year were Mrs. Menzel's two english classes. I have learned so much about myself as a reader, student, and an intellectual. Through both of her classes, we were given endless amounts of opportunity. What I mean by this is, we got to choose our own topics to study, books to read, and subjects to write about. We were truly treated like adults, which in my eyes, helped prepare us for the "real world". Her willingness to let us grow as individuals was very inspiring, because she believed that we could do it on our own, with a little push whenever we needed it. I have gotten the chance to discover that I actually enjoy reading! Specifically, I discovered that Jodi Picoult might be my favorite author as of now. Also, I realized that writing is one of my favorite things to do, it is a passion of mine and I hope I can continue it somehow with the career that I choose.
Personally, her two classes have helped me grow as a speaker, writer, and reader. In her CCC class, I was able to write a profile on my dad, which really strengthened my relationship with him. After printing him a copy, and seeing tears in his eyes made me very grateful for this experience to share with him how much of a role model he is to me. In her English Lit class, I was able to ask my grandma and mom what books they would recommend for me. Having these conversations with them made their hearts warm, since I was showing interest in books for once (they are both book lovers). Her class pushed me to be the best that I can, and it wasn't for the grade that I got. It was for learning about myself, and what I was capable of. That's when I learned that her classes are actually changing me as a student. For an example, when I was working on a project, I wasn't basing every single sentence on what the rubric told me to do. I was branching out and working on it because I truly wanted to learn more about the topic and put my all into it.
Thankfully, I have matured a great amount as a student because of Mrs. Menzel and her life lessons through teaching, and by just being herself. I truly feel ready for college now because of Mrs. Menzel, and I am grateful for that. This year, I changed my intended major from Business to Education,
My Favorite Quote Analysis
My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, "Someone, I tell you, in another time will remember us." She was right. She's remembered for being a gay poet and is immortalized despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It's one of my favorite quotes because identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot when she writes about her desire for love and personal heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease as even in "another time" someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some sort, and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an American born Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people of color and members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history. History is white– washed. But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be remembered in some shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as a Punjabi artist and social activist are just part of a legacy I am starting.
Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of amazing people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what healthy self love and growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English teacher. Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school career. She was a big part of my support system when it came to being a trans and queer student who had a lot of family issues. She was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles growing as a teacher. She talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every night, showing me that it takes persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces of literature she taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and race. This allowed me to explore both my interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about personal experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it allowed me to see that I can

My Favorite Quotes Of All Time
Mark Twain once said one of my favorite quotes of all time, "The two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why." Perhaps this is a question I have ask myself every since I read it about ten years ago. The day we know for sure what impact we want to do in life is the day that our past experience as well as the once that we did not understood become unambiguous. We can put our history with its experiences into a correct point of view, perhaps as a training to get from point A to point B. We can obtain a clear perspective and shape the road before us with particular objectives in mind. Such as training, education and alternatives for where we are headed. This particular paper was so helpful to me in many ways. It opened and cleared my thoughts; it gave me a fresh perspective.
Adaptability:
I have found myself often living one day at a time, in other words, as one may say, going day by day or even going with the flow of things, which can be a good thing as well as a bad thing. However, in my readings I have understood that "Adaptability" may not always be the right thing to do. For it is a theme that waits patiently and unwearyingly for things to happen on there own. On the other hand, this theme may be the reason I am still doing what I am doing, working with different kinds of people. Perhaps, God only knew when He created me that in order to accomplish the task and purpose He entrusted me I would need adaptability. God knew

It's hard to imagine our lives without books. We learn a lot of interesting things when we read books. Books are our great friend, teachers and advisers. They teach us how to take the next step when we are in a difficult situation. They help to shape our life. It is impossible to become an educated person without books. Besides, books play an important role in upbringing our feelings, views and tastes; give us a lot of useful information. Frankly speaking I'm not a bookworm but when I have spare time I read books with great pleasure. It seems to me that books are a source of emotional inspiration and romantic feelings, it's a miracle in some way, because an author provides a story and a reader can conjure the characters...show more content...

Most teenagers have different opinions on reading. As for me, I think reading is very important, because books help to discover new things, to learn more about life. Also books tell us about lives of famous people and other interesting things.
The book I`m reading now is "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer. Stephanie Meyer is a modern American writer. She was born in 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut. She grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, along with two sisters and three brothers. "Twilight" is a novel about vampires, written by Stephanie Meyer. The main characters of the novel are a vampire and the girl dreamed author in a dream... It is a Vampire novel, the first edition of which only in the United States broke up a record run of 100 000 copies! My Favorite Book Essay
My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. It marked the start of an amazing series, just as it marked the beginning of a little girl's passion that would remain for years to come. These books helped and consoled me through the toughest time of my life, fighting off my demons much like a patronus does a dementor. Reading of Harry's triumphs in the late hours of the night saved me many tears, providing a happy escape from my miserable life. Because of this, one begins to see the humanity inside these books and then connect that humanity to the world. One starts to recognize that there are Dolores Umbridges in the world, there are Voldemorts in the world, there are Albus Dumbledores in the world, and there are Harry Potters in the world. Many works of art are made in the image of the world, to reflect the good and the bad. These works of art can connect us to the world. For example, 400 million Harry Potter books have been sold worldwide, in over 200 territories, and in 68 languages, which means that somewhere halfway across the world, I share a connection with someone, not through language, religion, or race, but through art. Hence, "one cannot bind oneself to [the world] more certainly than through art."
What Johann Wolfgang von Goethe has stated is not, in fact, paradoxical, for individually, art is an escape from the world, but looking at the world as a whole, art provides connections that language or diplomacy never could. My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Essay on My Favorite Author: Stephen King
My Favorite Author: Stephen King
"It hit you like the flu or a summer cold, only it kept on getting worse, presumably until you choked to death on your own snot or until the fever burned you down. It was highly contagious." (The Stand, 65)
This quote shows what Stephen King as a writer means to me. His writing is infectious. Once I have read one of his novels, I want more. The desire to read his words gets worse the longer I wait. No, reading novels by Stephen King won't kill a person, but
"it [is] highly contagious."As one can tell from the above excerpt, King has a way of creating an image in the reader's mind. The image isn't always pretty, but it is usually vivid. Although, King has never been ranked as high as Chaucer, or...show more content...
accepted the novel Carrie for publication."
(stephenking.com)This would lead to many years of successful novels for King, much to the delight of many readers. Not to be outdone, King's wife, Tabitha, also writes novels.
I cannot speak of Tabitha's success, but I understand that she writes romance novels.
After Carrie was published, "the Kings left Maine for Boulder, Colorado,"
(stephenking.com) which became one of the settings in The Shining and The Stand. King has written over thirty novels and they all end up on the New York Times bestseller lists.
In addition to writing novels, King has also written a few books under the pseudonym of
Richard Bachman (none of which sell nearly the same amount of books under King's name), some short stories that are in collective format in books, some screenplays, one nonfiction book, and has even penned a series of books just for the internet. "I like to goof widdit [writing], do a little media cross–pollination and envelope–pushing."
(Everything's Eventual, 11)It seems that King will never stop writing, and that is a good thing. Although King is proclaimed to be a horror writer, not all his novels include this theme. The Dark Tower series is more of a futuristic western with love and chivalry being the main theme. He lovingly refers
My Favorite Things To Write
I was never fully one to write down my experiences and stories into printed word, I have always been very audible storyteller, and still am to this day. I will say that for an extend period of my life, I did enjoy expressing my creativity through writing. Short stories, poetry, and and even essays on certain topics were some of my favorite things to write. For the most part, however, I was really bad at making sense in my writing. I was bad at grammar, bad at creating an interesting story, bad at the things that made the writers of the past great. I suppose that didn't really matter though; I enjoyed writing, I enjoyed getting better, and I enjoyed when people would take pity and say they had enjoyed my work. I tried my best to do better, though. English had always been one of my favorite classes, so naturally, I put a large chunk of effort into it. I've also been very fortunate to have very passionate and caring teachers, in both middle and high school. Middle school in particular was where I had peaked as a writer. It was where I wrote the most, and to this day is the only place where I put true passion into the things I wrote. It's sad for me to say, however, that I can't fully remember a time recent when I wrote something I was uniquely proud of, something that I can call my own. Most of my portfolio from the past 5 or so years has mainly been a required, graded, stress–filled jumble that I couldn't fully enjoy. It's not to say that I don't have ideas, though. For a
My Favorite Works Of Literature
Throughout the semester, I have read various works of literature. Nowadays, there are millions of books available; however, only a couple that can influence and develop our perspective on politics, religion, friendship, and love. Several works can even become a source of inspiration and encouragement. Colloquially speaking, classical literature was quite captivating. It was generally referring to the literature of ancient Greece and displayed Greek's civilization since ancient Greece was known as the cradle of Europe. Antigone for instance enlightened us that wisdom and piety toward gods is what you need; furthermore, Gilgamesh explicated that greatness of civilization creates mortality of kings and death is inevitable. However, from the several books I have read, I have decided to share my favorite work of literature which is Lord of the flies.
The lord of the flies did not disappoint me at the respect that I am huge fan of allegorical stories. Each event in the story has an allegorical message; however, lord of the flies is peculiar since that it can be interpreted in several ways. For instance, it can be depicted as an allegory about civilization vs savagery, world war or human psychology. One of the substantial contributing factors to read lord of the flies is that it is timeless and as closely connected today as it was years ago. Although, the book was written in 1954, the age is certainly not felt because of the modern techniques utilized by William Golding. In
What Is My Favorite Movie Essay
This might be the hardest question for me to answer. What's my favorite movie? Like books, a movie is another way to connect with fictional characters and it really is hard to choose your favorite adventure. I would have to say I enjoy the movie White Chicks and any movie that I can have a good cry and laugh on – it's hard to choose a favorite movie. Some musical artists that I love listening to is Troye Sivan and Ed Sheeran. I really enjoy 3D art, like, working with clay. I also enjoy swimming (not competitively)
To me, to be literate means that you are able to read and able to comprehend sentences. Also, when you are able to read a book and envision the story unfold in your mind. To be able to read is to be able to interpret a story into your own, what you think the author is telling you. I also believe that you can read movies, music, and people etc. For example, a psychologist is able to read people's expressions and emotions. A conductor or musician reads music and is able to interpret that into music. I see movies as books but just being played intron tot your eyes instead of words...show more content...
I remember that my mom used to read me "I Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch. I remember saying the words along with my mom as she read them, as I remembered the words by heart. It was my favourite book after all. I also remember reading books like 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle, and 'There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly' by Rose Bonne. I remember thinking 'this lady was weird swallowing all these things' and 'How could she fit them in her mouth?' And 'The Rainbow Fish' by Marcus Pfister. I remember feeling the shiny scale that were 3D. I also remember after reading the book that I walked around the house giving my mom and dad things to show them that I cared for them. My parents also read me 'The Berenstain Bears' by Stan and Jan Berenstain. As I got older, I started to read them myself
My Favorite Book Of All Time
That Was Then, This Is Now is my favorite book of all time. I remember walking into Mr. Kirby 's class for the very first time. I was not thrilled at all. . All I could think of was me failing my English 1 class. I by no means am the type of person who likes reading books, but with this being my third year in High School; I have learned to enjoy every little bit of it. Believe me when I say the time the book is better than the movie 99.9% of the time.
I read this so long ago I don't remember everything that happened throughout very clearly. All I know is that it left me feeling strange and not a good kind of strange... More like an emotional kind of strange. I admit to coming loose over this book. I realize that books that engage such emotions are usually pleasant books. The feeling of this book wasn't life sucks. The feeling is that there are struggles and hard decisions in life, but friends come and go depending on your choice of action. The ending was so tragic and heart breaking. The author really did destroy the best character in the book. A lot of people dislike this book for many different reasons, but stuff like this happens every day! The characters are very well developed making you feel everything they do, which I don't always possible with short books, but is very well achieved here.
This book is about a guy named Bryon. He lives with his mom and best friend Mark. Mark lives with him because of his parents died. Mark and Bryon have been best friend's way before
My Favorite Art Essay
Paul McKelvery Jr HUM 2223 22 Sept 2017 Journal Paper Prompt A: What were your favorite artworks? Why? Response: My favorite piece of art that's been displayed, or at least talked about so far, this semester has got to be the little berserker chess pieces from the Germanic Tribes lecture. While not necessarily a primary piece of art, the small sculptures represent the tribe of Viking warriors that fought fearlessly. In detail, the depictions of the berserkers show them wielding swords and shields as if they always stood ready to battle. Then to add to the appeal, the berserkers in the chess set are biting on their shields as if they were wild animals. I imagine this group of Vikings looking very intimidating and using the wild and fearless personas to strike fear into their enemies. Another interesting fact worth mentioning is that the term "going berserk" came from the descriptions of this tribe. Being described as bear warriors, the berserkers were often seen going into these fits of fury while out on the battlefield. Some literature even states that the bear warriors would be seen foaming at the mouth and, as depicted in the chess pieces, biting on the rims of their shields. They would attack anything in their path without discriminating between ally or opposition. After the fit of rage ended, the individual would be almost catatonic and feeble. Tales proclaim that they would be in this state for a day or two. To me, nothing symbolizes a true warrior as someone who
My Favorite City Essay
Imagine waking up early in the morning, getting in the car, and driving for a couple of hours to your favorite city to visit. It is an immensely great feeling that occurs once you reach it. We all have our favorite places to visit. What makes your favorite city so great? All of the best cities in Michigan should have certain characteristics to be considered the best.
Most favorable cities in Michigan all have the quality of a dedicated lighthouse and pier. For example, in the city of Port Austin, Michigan there is a towering lighthouse at the end of a long pier that stretches out into Lake Huron. It is a tremendous feeling walking for a couple of minutes and reaching the end of the pier. The feeling is quite breathtaking to look at the clear blue water with a snappy breeze blowing. The whole experience of walking for a couple of minutes to make it to the lighthouse is why Port Austin is such a fantastic destination. Another example of an outstanding city with a lighthouse is Charlevoix, Michigan. Charlevoix is up north near the top of the mitten. There is a small lighthouse on a small pier that opens the sizable Lake Charlevoix into Lake Michigan. One of the best things to do in the summer is jumping off of the Charlevoix lighthouse pier into the crisp water of lake Michigan. The water is so clear and blue and feels so refreshing on a hot summer day. Seeing the boats go through the channel and sitting by the water is why I continue to go back to Charlevoix. A final example
What Is My Favorite Word Essay
"Different"
I have a few words that I like and live by , but my favorite word is "different". It takes a lot to be yourself in a world that is constantly changing. I love to see people who aren't afraid of being themselves! The ones who would rather lead the pack than follow. I think that God created us equally, but with our own unique touch.
In this world, everyone comes from different cultures and backgrounds. The world is one big melting pot full of unique individuals. If we all were the same life would be so boring and serve us no purpose. When you first meet someone, what is the first thing you notice about them? Is it the way they speak, dress, or act? It says " The one who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. Those who walk alone are likely to find themselves in places no one has ever been before." It has been linked back to different people , the message is clear as day. It is a powerful quote that I think everyone should read and live by. It's basically saying if you do not follow your own path it may cost you. It may not be the path that was meant for you. If you take a leap of faith and use your own imagination you can go beyond your limits. The truth of it all is anyone can be different. Even identical twins are different in some way. You will noticed the different personalities immediately. The world need more strong, positive leaders . We were all put on this earth for a reason and we can all make a difference and be DIFFERENT.
My goal is to be an elementary teacher. My ultimate goal is to be able to make a difference with one class at a time. I hope that when I finally get my own classroom, I am blessed enough to teach my little babies a lot of good values to have inside and out of the classroom. I will make sure they are comfortable and eager to show me their creativity. Different means having confidence in who you are. Do not lose your identity because you want to fit in. You are who you are for a
Writing Essays : Is My Favorite Thing To Me?
Writing papers has not always been my favorite thing to do. The main reason why I do not like writing papers, is because I consider my English horrible. English is not my native language, and learning it was difficult in my opinion. Especially, when you are a child and the only place where you could speak English was at school, because at home the only language I was allowed to speak was Spanish. Throughout the years I eventually got the hang of it, and in the beginning of fourth grade I was placed in regular English class instead of being in an English Language Learning (ELL) class. But even after that, I still detested writing with a great passion. After the struggle of learning a new language, I was proud of myself for improving and taking challenging classes have helped me improve more. Being placed in a writing studio class, due to my Standardized Assessment Test (SAT) being low; has really helped me improve with my organization, grammar, punctuation, and brain storming. During this writing studio class, we were asked to jock down on our journal every Tuesday, any thoughts we had towards are writing or any activity we had worked on that day. Reading my journal today, I have realized a pattern. For every journal, I had come to class prepared with something to do, to be a step ahead and have my work done before the due that. Which is impressive to me, because I use to procrastinate a lot, and finish my homwork the day before the due that. So, it has shown me that I have become more responsible and committed to my education. Another thing that I have realized about reading through my journals is, the type of strategies I used to develop a better paper. These strategies I used helped me change my attitude towards writing. It made me realize that writing is not actually that hard when you are prepared and have a visualization of what you are going to write about. In other words, it made me actually have more respect towards writing and start appreciating the true meaning of writing. I remember when writing use to be the struggle for me. I would take hours staring at a piece of paper or computer screen thinking about what to write and not knowing what to write about. I even remember somethings ending up not
My Favorite Hobby Of Reading
I am an avid reader and reading has been my favorite hobby for a great deal of my life. This is probably because my parents value literacy and they have almost always encouraged me to read. The exceptions being when I am supposed to be doing something else, such as completing homework or sleeping. When I was young, they read all sorts of picture books to me, especially those by Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle. When my father read Green Eggs and Ham to me, he altered the words when he read it to me, replacing "I do not like that Sam–I–am" with "I do love that Sam–I–am." Later, when I was in first grade, I read Magic Tree House #1: Dinosaurs Before Dark while on an indoor break. I found it on a bookshelf and decided to read it, which took me a while since it was the first non–picture book that I had read on my own. But I eventually managed to finish it and I felt really proud of myself. I enjoyed the book and the magic involved fascinated me. I later read a couple more Magic Tree House books from the shelf and asked my parents to get the first twenty–eight when we saw them on sale at BJs (the series started in 1992 and they were selling fourteen–book boxed sets). The Magic Tree House series introduced me to the concept of magic, the impossible kind that is not just a trick. As the first proper fantasy book that I ever read, Dinosaurs Before Dark opened the gateway to the fantasy genre for me. After I read it, my parents saw my interest in fantasy novels and introduced me to the Harry
My Favorite Pieces Of Literature
"Examples of My Favorite Pieces of Literature" There are many different types of Literature, and throughout high school, most of us read and study famous pieces written by popular authors. I enjoyed reading and studying all types of literature in school, but my favorite was a story or poem that talked about how to overcome the obstacles and unforeseen circumstances we sometimes face in life. I chose the following three pieces because each one had an impact on me and gave me motivation and strength to face and overcome challenges in my life. Each piece demonstrates that the outcome of our inner happiness or success lies in our reaction to unforeseen circumstances and the choices we make to overcome them. My first selection of literature is one of my favorite poems by Robert Frost. I read "The Road Not Taken" in my high school junior English class. I like this poem and still remember it because I felt a deep connection to it. In high school, peer pressure is very challenging, and this poem made me feel better about making good decisions not to follow the crowd just to fit in or be popular. The poem begins with a traveler walking in the woods. He soon comes to a fork in a road, and he has to make a choice between two paths. Unable to see what lies ahead, he examines both roads closely and makes a decision to take the road less worn by other travelers. This symbolizes the choice he must make between two directions in life. The traveler tries to cheer
My Favorite Words
I remember countless little episodes in my life where if my sister said a certain word to me, I would be on the floor laughing within seconds. It seemed almost as if when we got older, we started becoming more clever in choosing the words that would bring us to the point where we were peeing our pants. From preschool to the end of elementary school my sister and I would always find something, be it a phrase, word, or just a very strange idea that made us giggle until our mom started laughing at the mere sight of us rolling on the floor in tears. These words cycled at a rate of a new word about every month.
One of the first words evoking laughter was "pickle". It was a simple word, but at that point it was enough to make us giggle. Don't ask me why, but five–year–old me got a kick out of the word. I would get off the bus from a long, three hours of half day kindergarten at Evamere Elementary School, my Pokémon cards in hand, and as always, saw my sister waiting for me as I approached the house through the garage. She had long bangs going down to her eyes which she refused to cut, and she had her stuffed animal dog on a leash in tow behind her, its dirty body dragging through God knows what on the kitchen floor. She was the classic toddler. She saw me and her eyes lit up because she knew that just one word uttered from the day before would make me laugh hysterically. I knew what she was thinking. I knew what she was going to say, but it didn't matter because when I heard her
My Love For Literature
Since I was a child, I have always been captivated by reading and writing. It is mesmerizing how a well–written novel or essay can transport me to a different world where there are no limitations. The importance of reading and writing were also emphasized by my parents–who would always take my sister and me to the library every week, which in turn cultivated my love for literature. English is one of my favorite subjects because I enjoy writing analytical and persuasive essays, giving presentations, and reading both fiction and nonfiction books. English has also helped me figure out my strengths, which I can then apply to other English courses that I will take in the future.
Out of the many types of classroom writings, I am especially fond of analytical essays and persuasive essays. I enjoy writing analytical essays because I can deeply examine the book or movie and find the hidden symbolism in them, which in turn can piece together like a puzzle to reveal a much grander message. I believe that you can learn a lot from analyzing books or movies because simple details might be a symbol of something greater. This can apply to your real life because it teaches you to view things more carefully because not everything is what it appears to be. Although I enjoy writing analytical essays, I also like writing persuasive essays because I can instill my beliefs and judgment into my work, thus encouraging me to feel more passionate about the subject and make the essay more personal.
