Satire Essay Social Media is taking the life out of our youth's every day. More and more of our youths is turning into big couch potatoes because they are always on an electronic device. It seems like everything that have a colorful touch screen they are on it. What happen to the good old days when you can go outside and enjoy nature? What happen when you can easily communicate to them without texting them or spelling words right. We all are capable of communicating with words; we don't need emoji's. My plan is to put all the electronics in a rocket and shoot them to outer space. If we do that the youth can't be on social media and then they will learn how to communicate. This might be fun for them because then they will learn how

What is all around us? What is used every day? What makes some laugh? What is the answer to these questions? The answer is satire. Satire is a form of criticism that can be used in many ways and in many different situations. Sometimes satire is easy to spot, other times it may be incognito. Satire is commonly found in literary works, movies, cartoons, and even some news casts. The formal definition of satire is the use of humor to expose human follies. (Dictionary.com). Satire is mostly written because a certain issue bothered the author. Through satire, these issues are brought into the sight of others so that issues could possibly be improved. There are four techniques that are used to create a satire. There is exaggeration,...show more content...
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, satire can be found in the actions of one character named Piggy. Piggy is the boy that is the nerd or intellectual of the group. Piggy represents the intellectuals that created that atomic bomb in WWII. Golding was strongly opposed to the atomic bomb hence the satire in his novel. The first example of satire is found in chapter two .The boys are trying to start a fire and they are all gathering wood except for Piggy. Instead of helping Piggy, ". . . just sat." (Golding 39) and watched everyone else do the work. This is an example of Horatian satire. Golding doesn't outright say that he is making fun of the intellects, it is subtle. The next piece of satire is in chapter eight. An assembly has been called and the decision of moving the fire onto the beach has been made. Piggy was the one who suggested this, and because he was so proud of himself, he helped fetch wood (118). Even though he helped, the wood was close at hand so he didn't have to exert himself too much. This is also an example of Horatian satire because Golding is implying that the intellects don't actually do that much work, they tend to just boss people around unless they want to do a good deed every once in awhile. The one technique that is used here in both examples is parody. Piggy is imitating the actions, or lack thereof, of the intellects who invented the atomic bomb. The next book that has satire in it is Harper Lee's To kill a

The amount of car accidents that happen each year continue to increase. This continues to happen because of the number of people who consistently drive distracted everyday. This is due to a surplus of reasons, however, many fall subject to driving distracted because they prioritize their cell phones more than what is happening on the road in front of them.
I was involved in a car accident a year ago when I was struck in my drivers side door by another person. The events after are a blur, but I remember losing control of my car, traveling over the median that divided the directions of traffic, spinning around, and then rolling over to end up with the passenger side of my car on the ground. This year in my english class, we are learning about the different satirical techniques authors use to criticize specific issues that are found alarming. Our class analyzed a satirical paper, "A Modest Proposal", by Dr. Jonathan Swift, who writes about the poverty throughout Ireland and England, providing a exaggerated solution to clear the problem. We were given an assignment to write a satirical essay based on the same format as Swift's proposal.
I can assure you that my prompt was not a difficult one to brainstorm. Many people are guilty of driving without their full attention on the road. In my essay, I concluded that a proper solution would be to completely get rid of all cell phones, and any technological devices installed in cars that lead to distracted driving. This would solve many problems such as, safer transportation, money saved and used elsewhere because the nation would not need contribute so much to economic and societal loss, and alertness on the

Soaring rhetoric and amazing separation of independent clauses with perfectly placed semi–colons, passing references to Zero Mostel, zombie apocalypses, orange urine, loan calculations; plus, an obscure Bible reference, regarding seed sowing and free range donkeys. However, no matter how high you fly, someone always seems to be there ready, willing, and eager to shoot you down, and when the other shoe finally does drop from the sky, it usually lands in a steaming pile of doggy doo! In this assignment I'm going to explain what modern satire is and to provide a practical example, the case of Charlie Hebdo. The aim is to point out that satire is a controversial subject and it is likely to stay that way for the time to come. I will also mention what satire can lead to and if it should have defined boundaries. When too much is too much? I will use the news of the Mayor of Amatrice, an Italian town, that sued the French magazine for aggravated defamation because of the cartoon about the recent Italian earthquake.
I chose this issue because I've always been interested in literature's styles, ethics, and freedom of speech and information. Researching and writing about satire will necessarily touch these topics.

In the Netflix mockumentary series, American Vandal, created by Dan Perrault, the main character Dylan Maxwell, an 18–year–old senior at Hanover High School was held responsible for performing vandalism on 27 cars causing $100K worth of disfiguring. Everybody believed that Dylan was in charge of the destruction, despite the fact that he claimed innocence. Instead, they thought Alex Trimboli, the "eyewitness," Ms Shapiro, the Spanish teacher and everyone else that claimed he was behind the vandalism were speaking the truth. They put Dylan as the prime suspect based on his past with Ms Shapiro and furthermore because they believed he was capable of committing such crime. The examples of satire that the creators used were humour, exaggeration and irony. A diversion was utilised to make the show enjoyable for young people, yet with the use of satire, they could influence teenagers to appreciate the show while accepting a genuine message about how a false allegation against anyone could destroy their lives. Many of the people in the show were biased against rebellious teenagers which was something that Dylan was known for being. In the mockumentary, Dylan Maxwell was accused based off his image, his past, as well as his lifestyle. A significant number of the students that were requested to share their opinion said that what Dylan had to state did not make a difference since he was imbecilic and so forth. The thesis of the show is never to prejudge a person based on their past.

Satire reflects in different ways on our society today. While satire was all over back then today we mainly see it in political cartoons and on television. On television there are show such as the Colbert Report and John Oliver who relay "news reports" to viewers. They are poking fun at the news going in the world today. One of the biggest shows of Satire is SNL. Most recently they have had "Trump" on and have been making fun of presidential career thus far. In today's society the big butt and boobs are the goal for many up and coming stars. For television hosts this gives a chance for them to make parody's of them. Ms. Kalick/Carlton Candide's Garden Candide is a satire written by Voltaire. Voltaire wrote it to poke fun at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz's idea of philosophical optimism, the belief that we live in the best of all worlds. Voltaire disagreed with this philosophy, a philosophy which Dr. Pangloss, a character from the satire, strongly believes in. Another philosophy that is stated in the satire is Candide's, "but let us cultivate our garden". To "cultivate [a] garden" means to improve ourselves through open–mindedness and adaptation. One way you can improve yourself is by being open to new ideas. Candide does this throughout the whole novella. At the beginning, Candide blindly follows Dr. Pangloss's...show more content...

Satires continue to "rise as one of the country's most effective and influential original reporting platforms," (Source 7). By incorporating humor, not limited to skits and comical visuals, the reality within social and political affairs are shown true. Satires are an important part in the country's culture. Not only are satires entertaining, but they are also relevant news outlets for the country. These reporting platforms are influential in that the country formulates opinions based upon what the satire reveals.
While remaining comedic, satires provoke thought and illuminate political and social opinion. As an illustration, Saturday Night Live (SNL) maintains the position of a reporting platform. Creator and Producer of SNL, Lorne Michaels, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom because he reflects and shapes, "critical elements of our political and national life," (Source 2) on the show. Due to the recent presidential election, SNL has had ample opportunity to portray political discourse in satires. Satire Essay
Satire is a great tool used by many writers and actors since ancient times. The earliest example that we know about is a script from 2nd millennium BC in Ancient Egypt (Definition: Satire) and since then has evolved into a great part of our society. Satire is used to point out the faults of human vice in order for change and reform in either of two ways. There is a very bitter Juvenalian or a mild and light Horatian. In order to fully understand these forms of satire, method, purpose, and applications will be addressed.
The best ways to present satire is either through incongruity, parody, reversals, or exaggeration. When a writer presents incongruity, there are elements that are out of place, and they shouldn't be there. This not...show more content...
For this reason, satire offends very few people, but still inspires that important change. Whatever form satire takes is how this will be accomplished. If it is Juvenalian, it is done with indignation and harshness. This tone is somewhat dark and makes inspires change though a form of resentment. This is usually more successful than the other because anger causes action. The other form is Horatian, and is the amused and witty form of satire. It is presented as mockery, but never to insult or offend anyone. This is just to show the faults of something and make people realize why they are wrong. Both encourage change, and both are important.
Arguably, one of the most successful Juvenalian satires ever written is "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift. Swift satirizes many things in the essay, with the most prevalent being the way that England treats Ireland. Many of the inhabitants living there were poverty stricken and starving to death. Swift then presents his plan to sell the children for food and that way they could earn a little bit of cash. He says, "I have been assured by a very knowing American ... that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food" (Jonathan Swift). This is a very strong incongruity because eating babies isn't something

I think I speak for many people when I say that I can’t wait for the day when it finally warms up around here. While being an Oregon resident has it’s advantages, it just seems to lack in the sunshine department, and what a better way to brighten up any day than with 200 degree weather. No more wasting snow days at school, no more long sleeved shirts, and finally an end to all that SPF mumbo jumbo. You know that without an O–zone layer there’s going to be nothing strong enough on the market to protect our delicate skin. They’ll probably have some kind of pill I can take instead. Even if some of the polar ice caps do melt, that just means more beaches for us on our new glorious days of sunshine. So what if a few million people drown? I suppose earthweek is just another form of the government keeping us down. We have become far too brainwashed when we start to feel guilty for living the life of careless slobs. Though, one week out of the year isn’t too bad to have to plant a tree or recycle your plastics. Examples Of Satire In Candide
oltaire's Candide provides an Enlightenment religious and social critique of the Old Regime though satire. In Candide, Voltaire depicts the hypocrisy of the religious leaders during the Old Regime time period along with the criticizing the idea that reason can overcome social turmoil.
Voltaire creates "villains" that reveal the hypocrisy that is behind the Christian church of the Old Regime. The Grand Inquisitor is an important character that represents the hypocrisy of religious teachers. He threatens religious oppression upon the Jew Don Issachar to force the Jew to share Cunegonde with him. Enlightenment philosophers wanted concrete, tangible proof to back their ideas. Pangloss, Candide's friend and teacher, is a character that depicts the metaphysical side of the Old Regime. He is an optimist who believes that there is no effect without a cause and that everything is made for a reason and with a purpose. Voltaire portrays Pangloss as naive. Pangloss finds himself in trouble for studying and exploring the world before he becomes sure of himself and his ideas. Even after Pangloss's troubles, he still refuses to stray from his thoughts and would rather believe his ideas than face reality. Another character that is depicted as naive and optimistic is Cacambo, Candide's servant. Cacambo consoles Candide after his loss of Cunegonde. Cacambo claims that God takes care of all women and that they will never be at a loss. But Candide knows the sufferings that Cunegonde and the Old Woman have experienced. Cunegonde was bought, sold, and objectified throughout the novel, along with the Old Woman, who was beaten, raped, and treated with
