The Video Game Narrative Essay
The Video Game Narrative
The first argument that arose out of the video game world was the debate of video game violence. Still unresolved, this debate has actually allowed for the video game industry to come fully into the main stream. As the din over violence quieted the fans of the game society began to focus on issues more akin to their own style. So then began the debate of game play vs. the video game narrative. The question arose; can a game also be a story? While the semantics would suggest that, no, a game cannot be a story, we do realize that a game can contain a story. However,...show more content...
Initially it would seem that the answer is simple, leaning towards the same linear story we've dealt with for years; however, the ability to change the story depending on your own choices gives the game certain originality every time you play it. It ceases to be a storyteller and gives you the ability to choose. Ultimately, it seems, games of the role–playing genre will give you the ability to influence every decision down to the most minute aspect. The Sims (2000) allowed a player to create a single simulated person (a sim) or an entire family of sims, and each simulated day the player could control everything their sim did, ranging from going to work, watching TV, eating, and even going to the bathroom. This ultimate choice seems to make the story of a game less of a story, and more of a reality. However, the point of the game has no real climax and no end to the game, so it is in a genre of its own.
It seems we should focus more on games that have a literal story line to get the answer. So, Knights of the Old Republic (2003) was released and quickly became the RPG of the year. It was awarded the title for graphical beauty, but most importantly, a revolutionary leveling system. As the game progressed your character gains experience from not only fighting, but from completing tasks and working with a myriad of objects and computers. But the more impressive feature was the influence that your character had

The two most common negative aspects of video games are the physical and the psychological effects that it has on children. There are numerous bad effects of video games but it is the same with anything, too much of one thing is bad for you or so the saying goes. I will now look at both the physical and psychological negative effects of video games;
Video games can isolate a child causing him to be socially awkward and find it hard to communicate with others and cause the child to spend less time doing other activities such as homework, reading, interacting with friends and family and sports.
Some video games teach children wrong values such as robbing, violence, adultery and vandalism to list a view that reward gamers for acting in these ways. Many video games are sexist there is usually no main female protagonist and woman are usually submissive and mistreated or are sexually
Ted Talk Essay
When it comes to choice it always seems to be a love hate relationship: we hate making them, but we can't live without them. Anyone can all look back to a time in our lives where they wish someone could just pick for us, or times when we wish there were more to choose from. All Americans have many choices, and it is such a part of our daily lives that we don't even realize it. Barry Schwartz and Sheena Iyengar's TED talks bring up interesting ideas about choice, how people deal with them and their affects. They both state that although choice is good, it can also have negative effects. Schwartz explains what most people believe and experience with choice, while Iyengar shows cultural differences in choice making. Both Schwartz and Iyengar...show more content...
The second is the more choices the more likely that the best choice can be made, and the third assumption is that you should never say no to choice. Iyengard evaluates these three assumptions with various studies where one group is American and the other is another culture. Her studies help understand why and how Americans make choices in comparison to the rest of the world. Without doubt, Iyengard's studies and analysis on choice is interesting but Schwartz's was clearer because it easily communicated the message that was more applicable to the public. Choices are an important part of everyone's lives and the choices we make can reflex who we are as individuals. Choice and the ability to choose are excellent and can represent a sense of freedom. Schwartz's and Iyengard's analysis on choice focused on the effects of choice in people and how people react and deal with it. Schwartz's Official Dogma and explanation of how Americans act in response to choice making is the most relatable to individuals and clearly chows the consequences of too much choice. His analysis can assist to people realize that maybe because we have more choice doesn't necessarily mean we will make us happier or the best decision will be made. Understanding the consequences of too much choice can possibly make individuals improve the negative effects it can have and make us happier with our
Essay On Youtube
There is nothing more exciting then unlocking my home screen as I'm walking back to my dorm building after a long day of quizzes, lectures, and caffeine breaks to find a notification on my phone telling my favorite YouTuber has just uploaded a new video up on their vlog channel. I don't why I have such a deep obsession with the world of YouTube. Maybe it's because I have a peculiar fascination with watching people who live lives of grandiose fashion. Maybe it's because conspiracy theories of Avril Lavigne having a doppelganger haunts me to the core. Maybe it's because there's content for everyone and everyone is welcomed into a community of people just like themselves. Whatever the reason, YouTube has been a media platform that I have...show more content...
These people are referred to as YouTubers. Their full–time job is to create constant video content in hopes that viewers will subscribe to their channel and want to see more. I would watch content after content for hours on end. Sometimes I would wake up to find my phone stuck onto the side of my face with copious amounts of drool. With each click I found myself becoming more invested in areas I knew nothing about.
The first YouTuber I had ever subscribed to was, Shane Dawson. He creates hilarious sketch–comedy videos with darker undertones and important messages. Shane introduced me to topics like mental illness, abuse, identity, and self–esteem. His videos allowed to become more aware of issues people faced in their daily lives. He always taught me how to be an unapologetic version of myself. Which led to me coming to terms with my own sexuality and learning how to deal with it.
Not only did YouTube give me a broader perspective on the different people and cultures living in the world around me, it also drove me to want to pursue a career in the media field. I saw how quickly stories developed and spread throughout the YouTube community. It was like having a newspaper that talked to you. Each big headliner or celebrity scandal you could find a channel on YouTube were someone was reporting on it and giving themselves and the story more press. There is so much power in being able to bring
What I Learned From The Video Essay
Video Summary
What I learned from the video is the following.
Have access to my money
Know where important information is kept.
Have an emergency bag with important items in.
I have not thought about having access to my own money as such of a important step after a disaster like Katrina. When banks are everywhere I never thought having access to my money is such of important step to getting back on my feet. Most of the times when I visit my bank all I need to have access to my account is my social security number.
Most of my important information like birth certificate, social security, immunization records, tax documents and health insurance is kept in a brief case under my parents bed. This includes both my parents and siblings. I think it would be better to turn this information into digital version and save them into a thumb drive or even upload them to a safe cloud database in order to have access to this information anywhere there is internet access. From watching the video, having access to information like this is important to stablish my identity in order to get help like social security benefits and FEMA benefits when a natural disaster strikes.
Also from the video I realized that having an emergency bag ready to go incase of an emergency is important. This bag should include a change of clothes, family members contact information a type of identification and money in cash.

A Career in Film Production Essay
My entire life I have been fascinated with film and commercials. As a kid, I would stop what I was doing to watch a commercial. This has not changed through the years. My goal in life is to work in the film industry and work with video. This may have developed from my brother's short term love for the video arts. Like most little brothers I followed in his footsteps through a lot of things and most of them would not stick. As I grew older I developed my own different ideals and likes. But, video just stuck with me. Even if film production doesn't work out I have always had a childlike excitement for fighting fires. Being the person to save the day is something that everybody wants to do, but not everyone peruses this dangerous career....show more content...
What is even crazier is that he had a very low GPA. In contrast to all this, a film degree will help immensely. It will let you work on better paying and more glamorous jobs. This may sound contradictory but, one of the greatest screenwriter of all time, Steven Spielberg, did not have a degree of any sort in video production. He didn't even make an attempt to go to film school. Regardless, I will be attending a college with a film degree program to further my education.
At my school we have a broadcasting arts program. This program specializes in radio, video, and audio arts. We learn many different techniques to work in a field involving journalism, broadcasting, and video production. Unfortunately this program is shutting down next year due to various reasons. At first this was a huge upset to me because I didn't think I could get my 6 credits which would help get financial aid and get into college. To my surprise, I learned that the school board would pay for us to go to butler tech. They have specialized programs in video production which would look much better than my prior broadcasting arts class on a college application. But, for now the broadcasting arts program will still do me good. We work closely with TV Hamilton and they always want us to help out with shoots and projects that they do. This is the real deal for us. This is what the working world is really about and having the opportunity to see
Video Content And Online Streaming
When it comes to video content, students have the choice between a cable subscription and various online streaming companies. As the demand for video content grows, alternatives to cable subscriptions have become more popular, like online streaming. Online streaming can be accessed three different ways: via cable providers (i.e. Verizon Fios), through online video streaming subscriptions (i.e. Netflix), or for free (i.e. piracy). In this report, the focus of online video streaming will be on subscription services. This means that the video content is only available through a paid subscription. The choice to subscribe to a paid online streaming service can be influenced by many factors. Adoption of Online Streaming With the constant development of video content, it's important for users to have easy access to view it anywhere and at anytime. People are now able to do this with the creation of online streaming services. Instead of the typical way of watching video content on a television set, people can now use any electronic device to view their favorite shows (Henkel, 2016, p. 46). New media options to view video content have "fewer constraints than traditional media with regard to content offering and the broadcasting program delivery method" (Kang, 2014, p. 1043). Media richness in the digital environment is defined as a wide range of selection (Kang, 2014). Online streaming subscription services often have greater media richness than traditional cable options,
Generation Like Video Analysis
My personal thoughts on the impact of the social media by the PBS Frontline "Generation Like" video was very informative and showed how much I have been out touch with reality with the communication movement with today's generation and how involved the social media plays a part in our lives. After carefully examining the video and looking back at past court cases, I believe the social media can be a double–edged sword for our adolescence teenagers. The media can either be positive or negative impact on our adolescence children. Persuasive Essay On Video Games And Violence
Video Games and Violence In today's world, one of the big topics is whether video games cause violence. I strongly believe that it isn't the case. Having been an avid gamer for most of my life and knowing thousands more, I have seen first–hand video games do not cause violence. I know you don't want to just take my word for it, so I will show you through others as well.
Video games in their entirety do not cause violence. When you look at the games that are out now, most depict events in life past or present. Others go on a fairy tale ride that most people can discern the difference. One of the biggest games of all time that go on the fairy tale ride is Grand Theft Auto. GTA has been one of the best–selling and most controversial games ever made Kids from all ages play it with many adults advocating for its ban. I have played and enjoyed this game myself over the years with friends and random people on the internet. Everyone that I have come across can always discern the difference between the game and real life. The game itself has a beginning, middle, and end. The main goal is to get to the end. Sure, you have to do some questionable things along the way but at the end of the day there has been no proof to link this game to the real–world violence and crimes. A study was preformed and written on called Grand Theft Childhood. In this study/book it states that "They found a correlation between boys playing Mature–rated games and certain aggressive acts and other

After, his mom convincing him that he isn't gay and it's all in his head, he realized that no church or anyone can cure or change who he is. He knew who he was, and came out. His mom wouldn't accept that and tried to change him, but that just put him in more pain. He just wanted to be accepted by the one person that raised him. When he came out people were just leaving him out, calling him names, pushing him around, and saying that he is wrong for being in love with the same gender. All that hate he got didn't matter to him what matter was that he was finally happy with someone who he loves. The way he was being mistreated by people, just made him stronger and proud for whom he is, and no one is bringing him down. At this point others would feel bad for him because of the hate people had for him, but also happy because he knew what was right and what had to be done. Live Streaming
Live streaming media is the transmission over the Internet of video of an event as it happens. Streaming is a form of online video in which the site sends video footage to a user's machine "on the fly" rather than as a complete file. It's akin to the difference between watching a TV show as it airs and watching a DVD.
Live streaming media is different than on–demand streaming. With the latter, the content has previously been recorded. The user then accesses it at a time of their choice, though it is still streamed to their machine rather than downloaded as a complete file. YouTube is probably the best known on–demand streaming site.

The recording may be streamed as it is going on, or it may be webcasted later, but still in live fashion. There are two main sectors that perform webcasting: entertainment and commercial. Webconferencing is not for watching, but so each member can speak and participate in a conference over the Internet. The other reason is the flow of the video, because webcasting is one entity to many, whereas webconferencing is many people participating
My Video Editing Experience
A long time I decided to live the zombie life as a video editor and during that time I had to experience a lot of workflow to get good at it. In the beginning of learning it was difficult and there were so many different programs to edit with, but during the time I did not know about which were professional or not. For example, when I first started I used a program called Window Movie Maker, and without doubt it was not very useful since there were only limited tools that the program holds; Since I did not know any better at the time I easily continued to work with the program for a couple months, which was the most difficult start of my experience. For example, there were obstacles such as slow render, 15 effects or less, and very rigid transitions from clips to clips. When it came to actual editing, I was amateurish as well, but that's normal for anyone that's new to a hobby that they want to learn by experience; The way I synched the lyrics or beats to my clips were off at first, as well as the quality, which was poor. In fact, I did not even know how to discover a source to download the type of footage I worked with at the time. After 3 or 4 months of editing, I finally made my first friend that does the same hobby as me, and he then helped me locate high quality clips. My friend was from Germany and of course I was from the United States, so we both helped each other grow as editors as time passed, even as it was difficult we had fun

Music Video Critique
REVISED VERSION
Music has always been a form of expression. The artist is able to convey their feelings through song, getting their listener engaged and sensing the same emotion. In today's world, there are less and less songs that people can connect with. Songs try to be more catchy and promote good times that people should be feeling, instead of the sensations that they actually feel. One such man that has yet to succumb to this is Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik. He has written several songs about love, life, and human imperfections. One of his most famous songs that brought him into the spotlight was his single "Superman (It's Not Easy)". This song is one of the greatest songs of the decade...show more content...
The camera then moves over one window to where Ondrasik is standing alone. He begins to sing, and from there his piano appears and the rest of his band appears. One of the video elements that the director used to move from scene to scene is having the setting fade in and out as the camera changes angles. The music video continues, but at the end Ondrasik is singing alone in the woods. As the camera moves above him looking down, the woman and baby are revealed laying on a mattress by his feet. He lays down with them on the mattress in the woods as the song ends. This opening and closing gives a bit more of Ondrasik's exact point in life. He has a woman (presumably his wife) and (also assuming) a child with another one on the way. Ondrasik has all this responsibility and he has to be his family's Superman, but is not sure if he can do it. After all, he is only human. Some people could argue that this topic may narrow the scope of audience members that connect with it, but the song is strong enough to go past this specific instance. I would say that it would just hit home more with those men and women who are in a similar time in their lives. Another key symbol that ties in with the changing backgrounds (which I immediately noticed) is the picture of the woods. It is first seen when John Ondrasik's band shows up in the beginning. Later on, when Ondrasik is walking through a party and sits down at a piano, you can see it on the wall behind a couple. The video does a

Eminem, "My Name Is" Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, is recognized for his work as a rap artist who is able to connect with his audience through humor and rhythmically dicey lyrics. "My Name Is" director, Phillip Atwell, successfully uses intertextual editing to further increase the power of this weapon. Atwell begins the video with a shot of a rather disgusting, yet true, representation of a white American couple getting set to watch TV. He begins to intertextualize along with setting a rather fast paced tempo for the video when he cuts to a close–up of the TV and then shows what it is displaying. Atwell artfully shapes the lyrics of the song by using meaningful parodies mocking the culture of whiteness. The beauty of this video comes not only with the production and performance of the lyrics, but with the post–production. Atwell shows the audience various TV shows and then cuts in between them to show the disgusting couple doing disgusting things as if they are the product of the environment that is being created on the TV. The lives of this couple can be viewed as being the narrative aspect of the video. Atwell also uses techniques to show the channels change back and forth to show that they may appear different at first, but in reality they are all attempting to exploit a similar topic, the topic of whiteness. There are also instances of a form of graphic match in Atwell's video when the shot is the TV show and it changes showing the character, Eminem, in the same position on the screen just wearing different costumes. These instances are used so "the viewer can revel in an interesting edit, in a nice

Even if one plans on becoming a director and not a screenwriter one needs to know what kind of scripts to look for. This is very important for a beginning small movie director since the reader will most likely be writing their own scripts to get some recognition. A script is a document that outlines every aural, visual, behavioral, and lingual element required to tell a story, according to the dictionary definition at www.Wikidpedia.org. It is crucial to remember that film is a visual medium. One doesn't tell the audience the story, one shows them. So what one will be writing is not a novel but more like explaining a dream on paper. One must learn to write a screenplay visually. As famed director Darren Aronofsky said in an interview with a struggling screenwriter trying to get published,
"Most of what one writes that doesn't work on screen will just be improvised on the movie set".
There are many important requirements for screenplays that may seem like minutia at first glance but the format of ones script is extremely important
since it will be submitted along with hundreds of others to one producer.
