School Uniforms
Would you want to be forced to wear the same clothing every day and not able to express yourself? Uniforms don't seem such a big deal to the society but to the kids who have to wear them it is a big deal to them. Most schools don't have uniforms because of the first amendment for freedom of expression. School districts should think about what the kids think about the uniforms instead of forcing them to wear them.
It affects kids when they wear uniforms. According to "School uniforms the answer to a dizzying free speech question", Christiansburg High school in southwestern Virginia suspended 23 young people for showing up at school decked out in Confederate battle flag T–shirts and other regalia, in violation of a school policy against clothing that might "reflect adversely on persons due to race," including, specifically, by displaying Confederate battle flag symbols. The teachers are not thinking why they are doing this, instead, they just suspend them.
The school uniforms cost too much for families to pay. According to The Sydney Morning Herald news article "Schools uniforms test the family's budget" The most basic uniform requirements at the wealthiest schools would set a family back at least $1000 per child, with some price tags exceeding $300 for a blazer, $75 for a Panama hat and almost $100 for backpacks. The Smith Family charity estimated the cost of attending a public primary school this year at more than $2000 per child, before school fees and excursions. The schools don't think about how much they are making people pay and they can't pay for it
Essay on Implementation of School Uniforms
Implementation of School Uniforms
The topic of school uniforms has been highly debated for many years. Many would think it would be the teachers versus the pupils in this debate but they would be wrong, this argument has members from both sides fighting for and against it. In this essay I will look at the topic from both sides and be un–objective in my writing.
Many of the arguments made in favour of school uniforms have something to do with the safety of the school community as a whole. For example some may say that with school uniforms children do not get bullied for what clothes they wear as everyone is the same or theft is reduced as there is less temptation to steal from others. On special occasions at school, like "Red Nose Day" for example, the pupils may be allowed a non–uniform day at school, another advantage of this is the fundraising aspect, if each pupil paid £1 then the school could make a considerable donation to charity. Also some people feel that wearing a uniform allows children to keep their casual or "good clothes" for after school and weekends or special events, thus causing less wear and tear and clothing lasting longer so in essence saving parents money in the long run.
Some people on the other hand believe that school uniforms make children and pupils at school lose their individuality and sense of freedom, as they are being forced to wear what other people are wearing. This could be seen as a bad thing as uniforms can also be extremely expensive and may need to be replaced at some point. A family may be able to send their child to the school but struggle to pay for their uniforms. This may also put some parents off sending their children to public schools or schools which are seen as "posh" or "upper class" because they have a uniform. Another problem may be that not everybody who wears a uniform suits the uniform, for example if a child is overweight they may look different in the uniform and this may make them feel bad but also cause other children to make fun of or bully them. Some schools require two or maybe three uniforms for the
Essay On School Uniforms
Should our school have school uniforms or not? The topic of school uniforms is an interesting topic due to the many views that people have on them. This issue is important because it could prevent the issue of bullying. It also could also make teens get to know each other based on character, rather than appearance. Many teens are judged based on how they look or what they are wearing. The students are the ones most affected by this issue. My claim is that school uniforms should be enforced because it could prevent students from bullying. Having uniforms could also help teens stop judging and labeling people by how they look or dress. People should get to know each other based on how they and who they are as a person. If everyone wore the same thing there could be a less tendency to judge others based on what they wear. Teens should learns that their individuality comes from within, not necessarily from what they wear or how they look. Some reasons and evidence that supports my claim are that studies have shown that most of the time the root of bullying is how another dresses. I have noticed that teenagers (myself included) tend to judge someone based on how they choose to dress. If someone does not dress up to standards, people tend to think they are weird or they should be avoided. This shows that people tend to focus on how someone dresses more that how they act. One can dress up to standards, but they could also be a really mean person. This could go the other way as
Essay on The Advantages of School Uniforms
Pants below waist, baggy shirts with sexist signs, and piercings, this is not a good view early in the morning. That's why the school should implement a uniform policy. Uniforms should be mandatory in school. Uniforms make the school appear more professional. Also with uniforms students won't compare themselves with each other. Moreover uniforms can help students save time. Additionally parents won't have to waste so much money on clothes hence will have a better budget.
A major reason that schools should have uniforms is because students will get along better. They wouldn't compare each other based on whose wearing what. This is opposed to a school with no uniform some students will feel inferior to the one's wearing brand name...show more content...
Students believe that the way they are dressed is more important than the grades they make. The students with less money, that can't buy all the newest clothes, tend to not go to school as much, because they won't fit in. There for students in schools with uniform will have more time to focus on more important things, like school work. With uniforms students don't have to go to the mall every week looking for new clothes to wear. Also if a school has no uniforms students will feel that they need to have a certain look to fit in, and many will be ridiculed if they don't achieve this "look."
Above all, parents are also impacted when schools require uniforms. If schools impose a uniform code parents won't have to waste so much money on clothes hence will have a better budget. For example a pair of designer jeans cost at least eighty dollars, with eighty dollars parents can buy two uniform pants, and three uniform shirts for the whole year. Especially how the economy is at its lowest point that it has been in years parents will feel the hit less if they don't have to buy new clothes for school every week. In a uniform school there are fewer clothes to buy, which helps parents spend less money. In addition, schools should enforce a uniform policy, because parents will have more money
Persuasive Essay Against School Uniforms
Uniforms have swept through the world, taking over schools, and restraining students in outfit choices. Though many people are for uniforms, many, however, are not. With a constant debate on whether uniforms are needed, I stand objectified against the use of uniforms, because research proves uniforms have a negative impact. Not only are the students negatively affected by uniforms, but so are the parents. So why do administrators put such a restraint on the clothing students wear? The short answer; they want to eliminate many of the problems that come along without the use of uniforms. Instead, more problems were created in its place, yet school boards are still blind to the cries of those against it. With a world so against change, open mindedness, and lack of freedom, I plan to examine the 'side effects' of wearing uniforms. Research has shown uniforms are very costly, does not allow freedom of expression, and does not help in the long run to further a student's learning. School uniforms have proved to be very costly. Statistics have shown the average person spends 230 dollars annually on uniforms. A total of 1,300,000,000 dollars is spent in the United States every year on uniforms. Also, this has shown that third class citizens are "breaking the bank," for their child's uniform costs. The Guardian warns that a rising number of academies and free schools are piling on extra pressure as clothing grants are axed. As more state schools demand costly branded uniforms, poorer families begin to struggle. Many families also spend money on uniforms as well as their child's everyday clothing. This is a sign to show how uniforms affect your bank account negativity. Publilius Syrus once said, "a small debt produces a debtor; a large one an enemy." Hi–Line Online speaks of how administrators and parents believe uniforms eliminates bullying, but in its place there is a concern that students cannot find their own sense of style. In this case this can hinder how a student feels outside of uniforms. They begin to be used to 'fitting in' with everyone else around them, so when they try to explore outside of uniforms, it can be very difficult. The society we live in today allows this freedom, wearing whatever

One reason why school uniforms should be mandatory is the cost. It is more economical for people because it will be cheaper to buy uniforms rather than to have a new outfit for every day. Uniforms provide a bully free environment for the students ("Reasons Why Schools Should Have Uniforms").
Even though many kids don't like wearing uniforms they still make it fun. They wear jewelry and do their hair how they like. They are able to pick out shoes them shoes that helps to individualize their uniforms. Students like that they can still show off their personality through jewelry they wear, shoes or how they do there hair. The students are still able to go shopping and buy new clothes for when they are not in school. These are just a few examples of how the students can still make their uniforms about them ("Reasons why schools should have uniforms").
Schools that require school uniforms look a little more formal and well put together because all students look the same and they are all wearing appropriate clothing. Schools that don't require school uniforms have kids wearing inappropriate clothing such as clothes that don't follow the dress code. Uniforms also help students focus more on school rather than what they are wearing. There are also kids that don't really care what they look like, so they wear sloppy or dirty clothing. It gives the school a bad representation if students are wearing those types of clothes ("Reasons why schools should have uniforms").
When kids wear uniforms, it improves their attendance at school. Kids are more
Should Students Wear School Uniforms?
School uniforms should definitely be used in school systems. Uniforms are both good for schools as well as for the students. Wearing uniforms will help build a sense of unity within the school. Instead of everyone as a separate team, everyone will be in the same team. Wearing uniforms will help free students of the stress of what to wear in the morning. Wearing school uniforms will help improve student individuality and improve their self–esteem. First, wearing matching uniforms can make students feel equal. Poor students would no longer feel excluded because they are not wearing name brand clothes like the richer kids. Kids sometime tease each other because of the brand of clothes that they wear. Social status will also be less of an issue because everyone would be wearing the same clothing. Uniforms will improve students' individuality because they will have to express themselves through their personality and attitude, rather than through a brand name pair of jeans or an expensive pair of tennis shoes. Wearing uniforms will allow the teachers to form a better perception of a student based on how they act not by how they dressed. Students social standing would be based more on individual character. Wearing uniforms will help improve a student's self–esteem because they will not feel pressured to dress a certain way. Students feel pressured by other students when they can't dress like they dress. If all students are dressed the same, everyone will feel equal. Second, wearing uniforms will allow more time for studying. Students will be more focused on their school work and homework. Wearing uniforms will allow kids more time to do their homework, because they will not be focused on trying to find the hottest outfit to wear to school the next day. Students spend too much time trying to put together the perfect outfit for school. Wearing uniforms will allow kids the opportunity to understand what is more important and that is the school work as well as the homework. If students would put the same dedicated time into their school or homework that they put into trying to find the hottest
Should Students Wear Uniform In School Essay
niform is a standard set of clothes which is worn by a group of people. But it seems that more and more people say that it may not be a must for students wearing their school uniform. People debate on this issue for many times. There are certain reasons why a student should wear uniform to go to school. School uniform is identification for students. It is a respect to the school.
And also, wearing uniform can show the tidiness and discipline of the school, decrease discrimination among peers. Further more, it can save the students' time on choosing what to wear to school. It is a place for study, not a place for fashion. Students should concentrate on their study but not their clothes. On the contrary, there are voices from the students saying that there will be more freedom wearing casual clothes. They also say that uniforms are expensive and ugly, and even some of them say that they feel shameful when they wearing those ugly clothes walking on the streets. Is that really so bad to wear uniform to school. Let's have a deeper look at those reasons.
Firstly, a uniform represents the school. A person wearing a set of uniform represents that he/she is a student. Uniform is the symbol of students. Just as a doctor wearing his white jacket, when he puts on his jacket, it means that he is a...show more content...
This can teach the students to learn discipline and self–control. To endure something they do not accept can steel them. And also, uniform can lower some unnecessary problems. Students will not compare themselves on the brands or styles of their casual clothes. Every student is fair in the school no matter how they are different in background. They can also save more time for study rather than wasting time to choose what they should wear for school. A lower cost of clothing can save the money for the parents for better use. With the above strong evidence, I strongly agree that students should wear uniform to
Persuasive Essay About School Uniforms
The thought of school uniforms seems like an old–fashioned thing for many of us. Unless a student goes to a private school, it is usually not a topic brought within families. Yet throughout different countries, having school uniforms is normal. Students in schools that are required to have school uniforms usually do well academically and seem content in wearing the same outfit every day for school.
In recent times, debates have grown stronger with in schools and parents over whether or not school uniforms are a benefit to the students and their education. School uniforms show that having them actually help students to have a safer and positive environment and creates a good learning environment.
School Uniforms encourage students to become more aware of their learning skills. Students will sometimes feel as though they are not getting the most out of going to a public school. I learned about this opinion that people had this year when I got the chance to meet other students that were coming from both a public and private environment. I never noticed how opinionated students were until I asked one of the students I met "Did you learn more in a public school without uniforms or in a private a school with uniforms?" .
A way that school uniforms create good learning environments is by not having to worry about what they wear on a daily basis. Healthguidance.org states that it's true that children at school that are in uniform will feel like putting in more work than if they weren't to have uniforms, that they would take their education as a joke. Studies show that a slight improvement in the grades of students who wear uniforms happens. Without uniforms, students are often focused on what they

It's no misconception that uniforms are mandatory in most Catholic schools (57% of them, actually), right? Well, even though you should know that, how about we dig deeper, and find out if they're truly a good thing? Well, this essay will be on the topic of school uniforms. I believe that uniforms themselves are completely fine. They make life easier for students and parents alike, as they don't have to pick and choose what they want to wear. Uniforms are also worn to represent the fact that everyone is equal . Uniforms can also improve safety at school, and school related expeditions. Although the uniforms themselves may be limiting, it doesn't mean that students all have to wear shirts and pants. These are the main points I'd like to discuss...show more content...
At first glance, it may not seem like they do much in regards of a students safety, but when a school goes on a field trip, remember: Since they all look the same, it means that they are easily identifiable compared to other schools. This means for teachers it is much easier to get the students together, which saves lots of time and trouble for everyone.
Continuing from the last paragraph, I discussed the safety on school expeditions, but now I will remind you of how it affects school grounds too. Though this is not as prominent, I believe that uniforms reduce the bullying rates that involve children. The reason why I'm saying this, is because that some kids are bullied due to their interests, and clothes could easily express what they like, gathering attention. It also seems like it could encourage people to realize that bullying someone just for their interests isn't a reasonable thing.
My final statement about my feelings towards uniforms, about how although they're all the same style, uniforms can still be diverse like other clothing. They can still be made out of different materials, there are multiple kinds of types that students could wear; skirts, cardigans, dress pants, etc. Since the only policy in elementary is just the colours, students can still embrace their favourite kinds of clothing when it comes to

School uniforms are a great way to maintain a level of social equality. There are more positive effects of wearing school uniforms than negative. Some students hide weapons in their clothes, so if there is uniform, no one will be able to hide any weapon. Secondly, school uniforms create an equal environment. Uniforms eliminate competition. No student will be considered less important than the other. Staying out of uniform is not a problem for the rich students. If there is no uniform, children, who are rich, will wear brand name clothes and children who are poor will wear regular, simple clothing. The poor children will feel left out because they are different. When children wear school uniform, every child is equal. School uniforms are less expensive compared to regular "play clothing", it lasts longer, and they can be reused. School uniforms are professional and help kids take school more seriously. When School uniforms help maintain or rise a school's academic standards. Uniforms help change a person's attitude toward success. Students go to school to learn, not to show off. Without school uniform, kids will spend more time on picking out clothes rather than doing homework. If children don't have choice to show off, make fun, or feel left out, then they will concentrate more on their studies. It is proven that schools that have uniforms have higher benchmark scores, SAT scores, and students which decide to go to college. In conclusion, school uniforms do not affect who
Essay: Is School Uniform Is A Necessity?
Is school uniform a necessity? School plays an important role in a student's life. It teaches them not only knowledge and education but also it teaches them morals and values. Undoubtedly, clothing is very important for students who study at schools and even for those who study in universities. Wearing clothes is very important in the society because clothing is a basic element of life such as food and water. School uniform is necessary as parents feel less pressured, keeps students focus on their education and enhances school pride. Many Parents feel pressured in buying the most expensive brands that would satisfy their children's needs so they would look their best in school. Male and female students usually compete in terms of who is wearing the latest clothing brands and trends. Some students can afford to buy a new different outfit for every single day of the year while others cannot. Parents who cannot afford to buy new and highly expensive clothing for their children every day would feel bad and ashamed as they would make their sons and daughters feel embarrassed in school. Therefore, establishing a school uniform system is the best way to help parents who have limited budget due to the fact they will only...show more content...

School Uniforms: A Non–Military Proposal for Sweden's Students The word school uniform has negative connotations for many people. It makes them think of war, of soldier, of death, brainwashed airheads doing exactly the same as everybody else. It makes them think of reformed, collectivized groups of people with no personal identity. There are, however, reasons for the existence of the uniform; one of them being, as the name suggests, the purpose of uniting. At schools all around the world the school uniform is a key factor to the success of the students. Sweden currently does not apply the rule of a school dress code, but there is a definitive need for one. School uniforms are...show more content...
And if it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then public schools should be able to require school uniforms" (Clinton, 1996). Studies have shown that when students are wearing uniforms there is a big difference in their behavior and their academic results in school. In his essay (Skiba, 2000) Skiba presents evidence from different studies (Cohn, 1996 and Loesch, 1995) suggesting that when children wear a uniform to school they are less likely to be associated with a gang and the dangers of walking pass the wrong neighborhood on the way to and from school is therefor eliminated. Loesch also points out that the dress code in schools help "establish a calm, businesslike school climate." (Loesch, 1995). In the Long Beach School District all forms of violence, beatings, hooliganism and other serious misbehaving offenses have almost disappeared since they decided all students have to wear uniform. (Cohn, 1996.) Another good example of how students seem to be thinking is this study where almost three hundred students were asked to describe pictures of people dressed in different clothes. Nearly all the students participating in the survey described the uniform–clad illustrations as "better behaved" and "more academically
School Uniform Is Good Or Bad?
SCHOOL UNIFORMS
The school uniform is good or bad? This is a question debated in many schools. School uniforms have many advantages and disadvantages; it depends on the thought and opinion of each person. Some people think that school uniforms display the discipline, obedience of students and it helps students can save time in choosing the outfit every day; it helps poor students have equality with everyone in school; it helps students be distinct from other people and it makes students feel proud of their school. Some people think that school uniforms are not good because it make them feel uncomfortable, they do not want to see other students wear the same clothes with them; it prevents individual personality and creativity, lack of originality and expression of each student. In my opinion, wearing school uniform is good for students.
School uniforms display the discipline and obedience. It helps students a polite appearance and courteous behavior with which students need. At the same time, this is also a way to avoid having students dress inconsistently with the school environment. Not only have that, school uniform also a tool to help schools manage students better. School uniform will help remind obligations and responsibilities of students. Therefore, when students see the uniform, they will try to study hard and do not an argument with the teacher or other students in the class. Previously, most of the private schools require school uniform, but currently some public

My view is that SHS should issue school uniforms.

School uniforms can help keep students focused more on their education and less on what they're wearing. If everyone is dressed the same then no one has to worry about whether or not the outfit they're wearing will fit in or look acceptable. It has been shown that once schools enforced uniforms there was less drama and distraction in class and test score began to go up.
Another advantage of school uniforms is that students are viewed differently by teachers and fellow students. Teachers view students as more academically proficient in uniforms than in regular clothes because, they won't be distracted by their choice of clothing they will also appear more professional and better behaved. Students will view their peers differently for the same reasons teachers will.
A major perk to school uniforms is that if there was to be an intruder in the school disguised as a student you could pick them out since they won't be in the school issued uniform. This would be especially easy if the uniforms had the school name on it. Obviously, school uniforms have many advantages for students and staff, however it does have a few downfalls.
One downfall to school uniforms is that it can lessen a student's comfort level while at school. Such as, if the girls were required to wear skirts, and a girl didn't feel comfortable wearing a skirt to school. Another way it could cause someone to be uncomfortable at school is that uniforms

It is a belief that school uniforms teach students to respect their learning environment and behave themselves, and, therefore improving discipline. However, that assumption isn't entirely correct. Researchers have actually found that school uniforms don't make students better behaved. According to a study of more than 4,500 students, those who wore a school uniform did not have fewer behavior problems or better attendance. Forcing students to wear uniforms lead to more problems and misbehavior instead of encouraging discipline. Students could get into trouble if they did not wear their uniforms correctly. Many kids in today's society cannot stand the thought of someone telling them what to do, especially what to wear. Instead of encouraging respect, uniforms may cause rebellions. For example, in 2009, a group of students at John A. Ferguson Senior High School rebelled against their school uniforms. Instead of following their school uniform requirements, the students wore what they thought would be a better school uniform to school. Not only uniforms don't earn schools the respect from its students, but it may also lead to more problems. Some critics say that school uniforms increase the amount of clothing that parents have to buy for their children, meaning that they would have to spend more money. Students wouldn't wear their uniforms outside of school, so parents would have to buy casual clothing for their child to wear outside of school.

By wearing a school uniform, one is not apt to get made fun of. Everyone is in the same apparel and can't scrutinize any part of another child's outfit. By feeling that everyone is the same, that is one less worry on a child's mind. This leaves more room for educational worries rather than individual ones. Socially this has sculptured me to realizing what is important. A Child's need to be fashionable brings along another dilemma for school violence. Children no doubt will envy other children's clothing and lack the financial resources to purchase similar styles.
