Overcoming Obstacles Essay
Overcoming Obstacles What is life? Life consists of experiences, challenges, and achievements; all of which are building blocks that essentially create ones path to success. In one's lifetime they can experience tough and difficult challenges. Sometimes these challenges become unbearable, especially when the odds are against you. However, going against all odds is something everyone is capable of doing, and to overcome these challenges everyone needs to have a "never quit" attitude in life. If we develop it, we'll overcome quite a bit. Many people all around the world face challenges and obstacles every day in their daily lives. One man in particular is Nic Sheff; a man who was a drug addict and wrote an autobiography called...show more content...
Society doesn't usually think of drug addicts as "good people" and they end up losing their respect and reputation as they grow up. If these teens and young adults don't change who they are when they are young, they won't be able to fix themselves as they grow older which can be a bad influence. Bad habits start as a kid and if you don't change those habits you won't be able to when you get older! Many people face challenges and obstacles at a very young age and that can change who they are as they grow up. My grandma faced a very harsh and unfortunate childhood. Her father died when she was 17 and that changed her life and her future. It meant she was given many responsibilities since she was the eldest out of her siblings. She had to do many house chores such as cooking, washing the clothes and dishes and waking up early in the morning to get water from a nearby well every day! This placed a very large obstacle in her life at a very young age. She had to leave school at a very young age because of all the responsibilities she was given and had to overcome these obstacles and face them with great integrity. But due to these obstacles that she has overcome, it has changed who she is now. She struggled in life right from when she was just a little kid. But if she hadn't overcome these obstacles she wouldn't have been a very independent woman like she is today. If her father hadn't died when she was young, she probably would have had a completely different

Compare and Contrast Essay
Community College vs. Universities
Choosing a college means going to a new, unfamiliar world of immense possibilities. One of the hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College or a University. Although Universities and Community College serve the same purpose, each has its differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and student life. Community College are the most common type of two–year College that prepares you to continue your education, are often an affordable and convenient option. Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice, students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can pursue their four–year degree.
Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees included. Both university and community colleges sponsor
College Students In Jenifer Kunz's Hooking Up
Jayden was sent an invitation to a college party at University of Delaware. He asked around to see if other people were going to this party. He did not want to be the only student going to this party. He found some friends to go with and next thing he knew he had a drink in his hand. Not only did he have a drink in his hand but the girls were all over him. The next day he asked his friends if he had done anything he should not have. They said that he had left the room a few times with different girls. We always found you lying in bed with a different girl every time. Unfortunately, this scenario happens more often than it really should with college students. In the article "Hooking Up" by Jenifer Kunz, she tells us that since the 1980's people
International Students Essay example
Differences between American Students and International Students Most young people believe that studying in a different country is a privilege because they are able to experience other cultures, and learn from them. However, in the United States it is not as good as they thought because International students have much more pressure being in this country, and sometimes they cannot handle it very well. Therefore, in the United States the life of an international student is very unfavorable if people compare it to the life of an American student. International students have to learn a new language to study, they cannot work while studying, and their tuition is much more expensive. They know their structure and have a very superior vocabulary, so they can compose excellent essays. In addition, since American students speak English very well, they do not have any problem participating in class. They have confidence in themselves, so they will not be afraid of saying something wrong. Consequently, because American students do not have to learn any language to study their mayor, it is much easier for them to achieve excellent grades. Most university students feel the necessity of working since they would like to have their own money in order to be independent from their parents. It is not the exception for International students because they also feel the necessity of working to be independent from their parents or whoever is responsible for them. However, for international students to work in the United States it is very difficult because they are only allowed to work on campus. These kinds of jobs are very limited since some of the campuses in which they study are very small. Also for an international student to find a job on campus is difficult because people prefer to employee an American student who is not going to have any problem speaking the language. For example, last semester a friend from Venezuela who is studying at Miami Dade College decided that he wanted to get a job in order to have his own money. He went to
Moving Away at a Young Age Essay
Moving Away at a Young Age
Moving far away from family and friends can be tough on a child at a young age. It has its pros and cons. One learns how to deal with moving away from the people they love and also learn how to deal with adjusting to new ways of life. Everything seems so different and at a young age one feels like they have just left the whole world behind them. That was an experience that changed my life as a person. It taught me how to deal with change and how to adjust. It developed me from a young boy into a mature young man.

I started playing sports in middle school and quickly became popular because of my athleticism. My adjustment to my new lifestyle was a slow but patient and rewarding process.
My new lifestyle has changed me for the better. I have come outside of my shell, and am happy with where I am in life. I have become more mature and I have learned to just be myself, and people respect that. I probably wouldn?t be as successful in school and sports. Making this adjustment from a violent and negative atmosphere to a peaceful and positive setting to me was a good move for my family and I. I am now a college student athlete at Old Dominion University, and life is treating me fair for now.
Many people go through the same situation that I went through when they are young. It was a tough time in my life, and it has made me a much stronger human being, physically and mentally. I often visit Michigan, but when I am there I feel homesick and want to go back to Virginia. My family supports me on all levels and friends back home. My younger siblings and
How will college change my life
"How will college change my life?"
Colleges are institutions of higher learning; I would go to college simply to make more money. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working world. As college students, we as students must have a fierce ambition to accomplish a balance between a healthy, steady social life and a bright academic future. Communication is an important tool in life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally.
The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool. College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set a guideline. Adults also know how to be self–sufficient, being able to do their work, without anyone's help or stealing someone else's work: plagiarism. College is where we are expected to perform to the best of our abilities because as students we have a fierce ambition to get ahead by earning a degree.
College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I'm an adult and expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can develop life skills outside academics, to be fully
The Bell Hooks: An Academic Learning Experience
Although education clearly offered Hooks an academic learning experience, the passage focuses on the lessons about the intersection of races and class that Hooks learned about. Due to crippling financial issues within her family, Hooks' mother taught her to label any of her costly desires as wrong. She soon believed that the issue of money and class was too much of an issue for her to worry about having "things a girl of my class would not ordinarily desire." This was the "hidden curriculum" she learned of at home.
At school, she realized that she would have to struggle in order to keep to her morals and identity in a crowd of people who felt contempt and envy towards richer students and students of higher classes or other races that boasted
High School vs. College Essay examples
High School vs. College A very important part of life is education. In order to acquire a satisfying education, one should complete high school prior to college. College and high school have two different levels of education, but both are trying to further student's knowledge. As recent high school graduates and college freshman's many can clarify similarities and differences between the two. Some obvious similarities are that both have assignments, classrooms, and students. Although college and high school have many differences three of the main ones are the teachers, classes, and responsibilities. Teachers and college professors are one main difference. Classes are the second main reason high school differs from college. Classes in high school generally consist of no more that 25 students. Counselors usually arrange your schedule the way they think is best for you. You are not responsible for knowing what it takes to graduate. Usually the school year is 26 weeks long; classes may have to be taken the whole year in order to get credit for them. You are graded on most assignments done in class. In college some classes may have from 75–100 students. It is your responsibility to enroll in the classes that are required for your major, plus a week for final exams. The year is divided into two 14 week semesters; most classes need to be taken the complete semester in order to get credit. College professors tend to grade students on tests and major papers. Responsibility has a lot to do when it comes to high school and college. When you attend high school you are provided textbooks for each class. Your time is usually structured by others (parents and/or teachers). Many parents are there to wake you up in the morning before school starts. In high school you are required to go to school everyday. You often read or hear presentations once in order to learn what you need to know. Students are expected to read short stories at home which will be re–taught in class. When in college you must pay for each textbook necessary for class.
A look back at the institution of education over the past 20 years will reveal that once upon a time a bachelor's degree was long since considered the marker of ultimate success, the highest level of achievement that one could make in their lives. In those days, if for some reason you failed to march across the stage on graduation day after an epic, four–year stretch of high tuition, long nights studying, and unrelenting professors that found great joy in riding your back, then you had indeed failed at life.
Attendance at a technical college or local 2–year school was deplorably referenced to as "loser's territory" and if you dared to enroll in one anyway and followed through to graduation, well you were congratulated but to a lackluster...show more content...
By taking these steps, you are in complete control of your education and which directions it will turn in. It will be forward moving rather than stalled and undecided, which can potentially lead to higher bills as a direct result of your extended enrollment beyond the intended 2–year stay.
This is not the only way that you can save by going to a community college. Chances are a larger university is not near your home. A school closer to home allows you to stay home and cut your bills another way by eliminating room and board fees and transportation expenses. Driving across town and maintaining your sometimes drastically lower living expenses sounds much better than the usurious bill many find themselves incurring at a larger school miles away from home.

Now that more people are earning degrees than they did two decades ago, employers are requiring applicants to have some type of experience listed on their resume if they expect serious consideration of their resume. It is important to learn the value of a college education in order to take advantage of what you learn and how to productively apply it in your personal and professional life. The educational experience helps in this development by presenting students with many challenges, choices, and obstacles along the way. A college degree is a huge accomplishment and most companies know that intense work and dedication was put into earning that degree. Employers also know that college graduates are taught to express their thoughts clearly in speech and in writing and to make informed decisions. That is why most college graduates are viewed as professionals upon entering an organization.
Personal Aspects
The value of a college education also shows in the personal aspects of an individual's life. Some very important values are developed while attending college. Some of these values include maturity, individuality, work ethics, time–management skills, and a sense of personal accomplishment. Having these values instilled will help to mold the type of person you will be in your professional life and in your personal life with friends, family, and most importantly, with yourself.
Importance
I believe that a college education helps to develop maturity. Although this can really depend on the individual and at what point in their life they are attending college. I realize that I will need to work hard and prioritize in college in order to gain the most out of my time and the money invested. I have been in the business world for some time now and have realized that in order to move ahead
College is not for everyone Essay
College is not for Everyone One question that comes to mind when graduating high school is, "should I attend college?" For many graduates this question have a very obvious answer. A high school graduate may state that, "college is the best option if one is trying to get a higher level of education, and will help one compete for a higher paying job." However, in my opinion most graduates do not consider the fact that going to college is a very big decision to make and that the schoolwork will not be easy. Going to college is not the best choice for every high school graduate because many students cannot handle college, colleges' lower standards, and not all jobs require a college degree. First of all, many high school graduates cannot...show more content...
The statement is also important because it is true that many high school graduates are not ready for college. The academic and financial challenges must be taken seriously, and the new college student must realize that he needs to be responsible in order to succeed in college as well as be able to financially support himself throughout college. The last part of the statement is perhaps the most important because it is true that many college students do not have the desire to learn, instead many attend college because of the social aspect, or simply because of the pressure to attend by the parents. The desire to learn is what determines how much effort one puts into his schoolwork. If the student does not want to learn that will reflect on his schoolwork and it will make it hard for him to succeed. The second reason as to why not all students should go to college is because colleges have begun to lower standards. ACTs, SATs, and high school transcripts are all being looked at by colleges in order to decide whether or not a student is qualified to get into the college. However, are these scores actually being looked at and examined how they should be, or are the colleges admitting underqualified high school students into college because of the tuition fees that student would have to pay? College is very expensive, with the tuition costs, book fees, meal plans, and room and board costs. It could be
