Personal Legend Research Paper
As the clock struck 3AM, I had relentlessly scrolled through my phone. Like any other pre–teen, I had spent my summer days hovering through social media. As I relentlessly continued, I had stumbled upon a quote that read, "Be the person you needed when you were younger." At the moment, something had hit me. It was like one of those dramatic flashbacks that you would see in movies, but in real life. Afterall, those nine words have stuck with me since then.
My personal legend is to be the person I needed when I was younger. Somebody my younger self would aspire to be or look up to. Whether the deed big or small, like finding a cure to some sickness or just buying someone a coffee. Being a better person, learning and growing are the foundations to my own personal legend....show more content...
Call it beginner's luck. I took that opportunity to design and create a bench called "Equality." Equality was about having peace, love, and respect towards others, regardless of who they are. This bench was auctioned off for nearly one thousand dollars to raise funds for scholarships. That was a major step in my personal legend. Although it wasn't nationwide, I was able to help somebody. Whether it be through the pride glazing off the bench, or helping a student financially in our pricy world. I knew my younger self would aspire to do something like that.
As I continued on my venture, my beginner's luck kept running. I was immerging myself into my own culture after years of neglecting it. I even began doing public speaking about topics such as appreciating who you are, regardless of how different you deem you are. I was striving to my goal to better myself, while receiving positive feedback from the people around

This is a lovely book, tender but profound. It is about the importance of seeking one's own meaning of life and spending one's life fulfilling it. Coelho calls it seeking one's "Personal Legend." It reminds me very much of what the Existentialists would have called "authenticity." However, unlike the Existentialists who write rather darkly about this process of seeking one's own meaning system, Coelho's young shepherd boy is seeking his Personal Legend in something much like a fairly tale. However, Coelho at least gives us a process and set of obstacles we might well expect, and his...show more content...
Coelho writes a beautiful and moving legend of the boy's journey and enlightenment. I did find the title rather odd. There is an alchemist in the novel whom the shepherd boy meets and who, indeed, helps him in many ways and actually sort of makes the shepherd boy into an alchemist himself. But the use of the definite article "the" in the title seems a bit confusing. It would seem, on Coelho's account, that anyone who actually achieves his or her Personal Legend becomes "an" alchemist, changing the baser life we have from birth into the gold of our own Personal Success. But this is a journey upon which any person may embark.
On the other hand Coelho seems right to me in bringing in the influential alchemist whom the boy meets in the north African desert. I think most of us who have seriously undertaken this journey meet people along the way who teach us and inspire us toward this mysterious and even occult route toward our Personal Legend. I'm 70 now and still on my journey, and like the boy, have arrived at various stages I once was almost sure were arrival points, only to discover another stage of enlightenment along the way.
Everyone who is such a seeker should read this optimistic book of one who seems to have succeeded in the process of turning a potentially base life into a golden achievement, a true alchemist's
What Is A Personal Legend In The Alchemist
There is a certain point in people's lives where they begin to have a yearning to discover what their purpose in the world actually is. This purpose can also be described as a "Personal Legend". What is a Personal Legend? It is one's destiny in life and something they must achieve. Throughout Paulo Coelho's novel The Alchemist, the protagonist Santiago goes through many experiences and challenges as he tries to achieve his own Personal Legend. Santiago discovers that "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon" which states that happiness is found through the balance of responsibilities and the journey (22). Although the journey is important, one's responsibilities is also important, and it relate to Santiago's journey and my own because it tells us that balance between achieving our Personal Legend and our responsibilities is the key ingredient to be happy. The King of Salem, Melchizedek, tells a story to Santiago about a boy who is sent to find the "Secret of happiness" (21). He went around the palace with a spoon of oil. The first time he went around he was so focused preventing the oil from spilling that he did not see the beautiful palace. The second time he went around he was too focused on...show more content...
I have changed where I wanted to go, what I wanted to do, and who I wanted to be. It was frequent due to my circumstances at the time. Now I understand where my Personal Legend lies. It lies towards the occupation of Nursing. Being a nurse has always been Plan B, but as my Plan A constantly changed I realized the only thing consistent was my Plan B. After being taking anatomy during my junior year of high school, I realized that I enjoy learning about the human body. As time went on I started to realize that I enjoy helping people and taking care of people. Eventually, I realized that I really wanted to be a
Personal Legend Research Paper
At first when you told me to start thinking about what my personal legend was and how it could not be what you want to be when you grow up, I had no clue what mine would be. Ever since the start of high school, I have spent more time researching my options for the future and feeling uncertain about my future more and more that I never stopped to think about what could make me live a satisfying life. Luckily we read this book and do this assignment because it made me start to think about what my personal legend in life could be. After thinking for quite a while I decided that my personal legend right now at least would to be as happy as possible throughout the rest of my life and cherish every moment possible, especially with friends and family.
My Personal Legend The Alchemist
My personal legend would be for everyone to look up to me and eventually come to me for help. I want to be that person you bring up in conversation and say "oh she's a good person, nice people. I remember hearing this and that." My sister and some of my really close friends already say I give decent advice. I'm going to accomplish my legend is by finishing high school, and live life gathering information and understanding life. I need to grow and achieve what life has to give me in order to be looked upon and to be spoken about with great deeds and actions. Personal Legend In The Alchemist
The Undenying Powers of Personal Legends in the Writing of The Alchemist Santiago from The Alchemist is influenced by the power of personal legends as he travels throughout his journey to find the treasure that has been recurring in his mind. Written by Paulo Coelho, the writing draws much its strength from the fact that its themes are so universal. Everyone has their own Personal Legend, their ultimate goal in life, but the amount of individuals that never pursue their personal legend is a higher percentage. Coelho similarly suggests that the pursuit to fulfill a personal legend is the primary and perhaps most urgent thing that life requires of us. Even though difficult obstacles often occur in life, one should never give up on one's personal legend because achieving one's goal often leads to a new beginning. Starting from the beginning of The Alchemist, Coelho sets up the themes of the book right away. Santiago is travelling, while doing so he is meeting up with a gypsy, who in which tells him about finding treasure because of this recurring dream he is having. After Santiago has his dream, he is soon visited by Melchizedek, the mysterious King of Salem, who tells him that soon after someone realizes their personal legend, all of the universe conspires in helping them achieve it, but only for a little while. This being said, " 'It's what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young knows what their destiny is. At that point in
My Personal Legend Project
Purpose: The personal legend project's intended purpose was to let others learn more about myself. However, I truly thought the actual purpose of the project was for myself to learn more about me. Process: The biggest requirement for the project was that it had to be a video. I decided on using a recording software called TechSmith Snagit. I began by writing out a narration for the video and collecting photos for use. Afterwards, I scanned all the photos I would use and uploaded them onto my computer. From there on out, I pieced together everything and had a basic outline for what the video would look like. Once everything was ready, I filmed the video and added music in the background. Product: My finished product was the filmed video with
Reaching a goal is something that people have experienced a lot with. A goal is an objective we all have, whether it is long–term or short–term in school, or out, we all had one. A Personal Legend, on the other hand, is a step deeper than the definition of a goal. A Personal Legend is a life journey one desires to accomplish. When accomplishing the Personal Legend, people commonly think about the destination, and the overall product. As a matter of fact, people gain much more from the journey took in order to be able to attain the goal. Throughout one's journey to seek their Personal Legend, they learn and notice more about the world around them. This way, the journey is much more valuable than the destination itself. In the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Walter learns that it is better for him to live outside of what is his personal comfort zone. Throughout his journey he learns how to feel, and become a better person, which did also adapt his way of living and understanding. Throughout Santiago's Personal Legend from the book, The Alchemist, he learns about the soul of the world, true love, and how the journey is much more important than his treasure. Because of this, Santiago changes his own way of living, with a deeper understanding of what is around him. Both of the characters have gained a lot of information throughout their expeditions, realizing that the outcome wasn't as important as it seemed. Walter, for instance, gained a great deal of information

Personal Legend Of Santiago's The Alchemist
The Alchemist has many inspiring and relatable quotes that readers can understand and learn from. One of my favorites is when Santiago thinks to himself, "The closer one gets to realizing his Personal Legend, the more that Personal Legend becomes his true reason for being" (72). This quote means that when you commit yourself to achieving some goal or completing some task, the more enthusiastic you will become. That one thing will be what gives you joy in life. Once you put in the effort, you will live a happy life and you will have realized why you are here on Earth. While I haven't necessarily fully realized my personal legend in my own life, I can relate this idea to my personal experiences. I have been playing and writing music for a pretty
Stoneman Personal Legend
Each person has their own personal legend. Will Stoneman entered a dog sled race to save his family from debt and emerged both victorious and famous. On the other hand, Walter Mitty went on a search for Sean O'Connell, as well as the missing negative, traveling to many places. He had the feeling of accomplishment after he finished his legend, yet he did not become famous and even lost his job. Last but not least, Santiago went on his personal legend for gold, and was helped by the King of Salem, and loved by Fatima, which resulted in his own happiness. Everyone has their own personal legend to create yet it is their decision as to whether they are going to follow it or not, which is shown by the main characters of the three completely different stories: Will Stoneman from Iron Will, Walter Mitty from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Santiago from The Alchemist....show more content...
This led to Will joining the dog sled race. He was by far the youngest and the least experienced. However, he did it for his family, which motivated him throughout the entire race. He did not give up when people tried to stop him, or bribe him to drop out of the race, which helped him stay on the front page, making him famous. Will became widely known, because of the hardships he overcame, shining a beacon of light on the American citizens. On the other hand, Walter Mitty did not become famous, he even lost his job, trying to accomplish his personal goal. He started his legend when he was on the verge of losing his job, leading to his search for Sean O'Connell and the missing negative, Negative 25. His search led him to Greenland, Iceland, Los Angeles, and the Himalayas. In the end, he got fired, even though he got the negative back to LIFE Magazine, and the only people who knew were Cheryl and himself, making his legend a truly personal
A personal legend is something that can interpret to many things. The meaning of a personal legend can be narrowed down as one's sole purpose in life. According to king Melchizedek, a personal legend is what a person have always wanted to accomplish and when they are young they always knew what their personal legend is. Realizing your personal legend isn't the hard part but deciding whether you are going to pursue it is. Living a fulfilling life without accomplishing your personal legend is a topic that can spark various arguments. According to the book, it isn't possible to live a fulfilling life without achieving your personal legend because you start to feel as though a part of yourself is missing and a sense of regret. A person can
Santiago's Personal Legend
Throughout Santiago's journey to achieve his Personal Legend, he is faced with the fear of losing everything he had worked for. To achieve his Personal Legend, Santiago had to give up his flock of sheep and Fatima. One of Santiago's biggest fears was losing his money that he earned from working with the crystal merchant. He had this fear because he had sacrificed so much to be in Tangier that he wanted to quit and give up on his Personal Legend. Ironically, when Santiago gives up what he had already earned, he earns a greater
My alarm went off at 4:45a.m. As soon as I heard it, I knew I had a long day ahead of me. My parents started screaming and telling everyone to get in the car. My mom, dad, two brothers (Nico and Adrian), grandfather, and I all put our luggages in the car and got seated. At 5:00 a.m. we were out the door and on the road for a 10 hour drive to Seaside, Florida. The first two hours everyone slept. I woke up about an hour before everyone so that I could get some peace and quiet and finish reading my summer reading book. After finishing the book, I began to wonder about my own personal legend in high school was going to be. I wondered about the lessons I would learn and the battles I would have to beat. Then, we pulled over, ate breakfast, and went

Personal Legend In The Alchemist
Paulo Chelho's The Alchemist, bestows readers with a philosophy, The philosophy is that everyone has a "personal legend" they must find that will lead them to satisfaction and joy. However, we have the choice to follow our "personal legend". Ironically, the characters in this book seem to controvert this philosophy. They do not make choices for themselves, only doing what they are told to do by others, or what they can read into individual omens and signs. Thus, we have an anomaly of choice: do you follow your "personal legend" and give up your freewill and become happy, or do we choose not to follow our "personal legend" and live freely, but miserable?
Santiago, the protagonist, is a shepherd. At the beginning of the novel, he is planning on asking a young lady's hand in marriage. He is happy with his lot in life until he meets Melchizedek, an incomprehensible man of "substantial wisdom," who reveals to Santiago the concept of the "personal legend". This "personal legend" is something that pushes every man,...show more content...
You think you are making your own choices, when in reality everything has already been decided, including how you "decide". The idea of the "personal legend" is that you have some choice to go after your "personal legend", but at the same time, Melchizedek says that everyone is "destined" to go after their "personal legend" and that the "world intrigues to help you find it". The "personal legend" is something you are intended to go after, right? Yet, you have a choice to go after it? These are two antipodal ideas. How can you have a choice when fate is involved? Melchizedek says that you both have a choice and that it is fate. Both of these statements can not be true at the same time. So really, this whole idea of a "personal legend" just got a bit more confusing to
Personal Legend Research Paper
Where I found my personal legend cannot be found at the time of my childhood. In fact, I didn't do much of anything in my childhood. Growing up, and even now, I had a vague sense of what I would be doing when I'm older, as if I was looking through a lens that's stuck on a blurry aperture. Whatever career interests I had were fleeting and unfitting.
During my childhood, I lived in Hanford, an obscure farm town just south of Fresno. I spent my days being raised by my grandmother, sitting alone in my house and eating dinner alone until my parents came home while the same news channel played on TV. It's nothing depressing; I even remember enjoying the solitude. I had a few friends, although I saw them as how people see most of their friends on social media: I do not really know who you are, but I sort of do, I guess, even if I have known you for years. Regardless, I was happy with being alone most of the time. This is the source of my introversion and the intensity of my self–awareness. Nevertheless, my strong sense of self–awareness doesn't always mean I'll know what to do, and it doesn't mean I'll be okay....show more content...
I moved into a new house, went through the end of elementary school, and then moved on to middle school. In early middle school, I had gotten everything done on time and it could be said that I had a lot of positive traits about myself. However, you know those embarrassing phases people went through at different stages in their adolescence? Well, I went through them too, but somehow simultaneously––which was awful. I was incredibly awkward, but I was also quite pretentious; an embarrassing combination. Whatever embarrassing thing I said or did was great in the moment, but later on it turned into a horrible memory that I kept thinking about at night, wondering if anyone remembered it. The rest of the time I was brimming with anxiety, always avoiding to do something that I would subsequently
Personal Legend In The Alchemist
Personal Legends What are personal legends? A personal legend is a destiny or goal in life that is desired to be accomplished. In The Alchemist, "Invictus," and "The Hundred Foot Journey," each protagonist had a personal legend and a sense of determination to achieve that personal legend. They all faced obstacles, yet they were able to overcome them through hard work and persistence. The protagonists were also ready and willing to make sacrifices along the way as they were pursuing their destiny. While the approach to each individual's journey is different, there were also many similarities in each story as well. First of all, The Alchemist tells the tale of a young boy whose personal legend was to go on a journey to find a treasure hidden
Personal Legend In The Alchemist
As individuals grow and develop and start to become independent in this world, the meaning of follow your dreams becomes more apparent and understandable. Everyone has a dream but it's the way you attempt to follow your dreams that really counts and the effort you put into making them come true. In The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, the main character Santiago takes on a long journey in order to follow his reoccurring dreams of finding treasure in Egypt. These dreams reveal Santiago's Personal Legend. Symbolism, geography, and ironies help to develop the plot. Paulo Coelho raises and supports the idea that all individuals should pursue their Personal Legends above anything else. The way he demonstrates this is by showing that following aspirations in life can reveal true purposes and deeper meanings. When Santiago's Personal Legend is revealed, Coelho writes to make him follow his life's purpose and take that journey. "The closer one gets to realizing his Personal Legend, the more that Personal Legend becomes his true reason for being, thought the boy," (Coelho 75). Santiago believes that his Personal Legend will reveal to him what his true purpose in life is. This theme of pursuing Personal Legends exists and manifests in each of the major characters. Santiago's dream of treasure in Egypt reveals to him his Personal Legend. Santiago goes on this long and tiring journey to find out what his true purpose is. Little does he know, his personal legend is the journey itself. On his
