Compare And Contrast Two Views Of War
Compare and contrast essay
War is a scandalous topic where peoples' views differ as to what war is. Some people see it as pure evil and wicked while others think that it is brave and noble of what soldiers do. Looking at poems which had been written by people affected by war help show the messages which are portrayed. The two sets of poems which show different views of war as well as some similarities are "the Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred Lord Tennyson, "To Lucasta, on Going to the Wars" by Richard Lovelace and "Dulce Et Decorum Est" by Wilfred Owen, "The Song of the Mud" by Mary Borden. Both these poets use linguistic devices to convince the reader of their view of what the war is. Tennyson and Lovelace show how war is worthy...show more content...
Lovelace's diction helps to develop the theme that war requires a passionate commitment from soldiers and can be as consuming as a relationship with a person the poet uses many dictions throughout the poem that suggests going to war such as 'chaste, mistress, embrace, inconstancy, adore and love'. Likewise, Tennyson's diction helps to develop the themes that war places soldiers under extreme stress, and soldiers can fight bravely and honorably even if the result of the battle is unsuccessful. In contrast, the word choices in Owen's poem supports the theme that war is destructive, bitter, and violent, not the romantic efforts praised by those outside of it. Diction that has a strong impact on Borden's poem is 'satin, ermine, chic', or words that have strong negative connotations such as 'obscene, putrid, monstrous'. Equally important, The Diction in Borden's poem support the theme that war is indifferent to human life. Words that display The Diction in "The Song of the Mud" are 'cursed, sludge, haunting, trudge, blood–shod'. Whereas The tone of Lovelace's poem is romantic and slightly playful along with Tennyson tone, which establishes a serious and respectful tone that also acknowledges the stress and confusion of war. Unlike the tone in the first set of poems, A great example of irony in Owen's poem is "Ecstasy" (line 9), which usually associated with positive feelings of joy or intense
Compare And Contrast Weather And Weather
People often confuse between climate and weather– the two really are quite different. Weather describes the atmospheric condition over a short period of time that is from day to day or week to week. While climate describes average conditions over a long period of time. Step out and you experience many facets of weather. Air temperature and pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, cloud type and cover and the amount and form of precipitation are all the characteristics of the momentary conditions we call weather.
The sun is ultimately responsible for the weather. The rays from sun are absorbed differently by land and water surfaces, equal amounts of solar radiation heat the ground more quickly than they do water. Differential warming in...show more content...

For example, Northern Europeans mostly like to go vacationing during winter in other parts of the world where the weather is usually sunny for most of the year. They would stay outdoors to sunbathe for several hours. However, summer temperatures are likely to rise above 40OC. For example, the malaria and the dengue–carrying mosquito do not thrive in cold climates. They are found in tropical countries in Southeast Asia and Africa. Chapter 16, Comparison and Contrast, explains the purpose and functions of comparison and/or contrast essays as well as how to use them in students' essays. For example, I want to talk about my ideas about hip–hop and rap music so I compare and contrast them. The second purpose is to inform people. I may want to tell the audience that there are many similarities in two different religions. Third, I can persuade people through comparing and contrasting two things. For instance, I will argue that reading e–books is better than printed books by comparing and contrasting
Compare And Contrast Essay On Childhood
A person's life can be summed up within a sentence, their childhood just a word. Time has the interesting ability of warping. At the same time, it has the ability to take away sentiment from any event.
Words can only express so much of an experience. One can only relate to an experience by sharing that moment, even then the way individuals process experiences differs drastically. A prime example of this is one's childhood. People can share the same superficial characteristics, yet have two different takes on childhood. Two male middle children with separated parents and two siblings can diverge completely. Where does this lie? It lies within one's processing, which in turns creates unique same experiences. The Stage For children, the greatest thing fought for is recognition. Especially as a young girl, it's only natural to crave attention.
I grew up as an extroverted child. That's one of the reasons why I was attracted to the stage; it was my domain, my home. My mom told me that my extroversion became apparent in one specific situation. My family and I were at the beach for our annual beach trip and I was making sandcastles. There was another little girl near us who was also playing in the sand. My mom told me that I walked over to the little girl and just sat down and started playing with her, at one point she asked, "can we be friends?" my response was, "I thought we were already friends."
The Dancer Growing up as an only child my best friends were the Disney princesses. I watched them glide and dance along the screen, swinging in the arms of a handsome prince. They were magnificent. Beautiful, graceful, and powerful. I wanted nothing more to join their brigade. At three, I was put in dance classes to make this dream happen. Tap and jazz, definitely not the princess dancing I imagined. This became apparent when the first recital came around. We were given fluorescent, sparkly leotards. No ball gowns or even a tutu. I don't recall the reason for my following actions, but according to my mom when all the other little dancers took position and began dancing I didn't. I sat on the stage. My mother was furious,
There are two types of learning systems most commonly used in the world, Online learning and Traditional classroom teaching. Online learning is basically a system which involves electronic media and information. In simple it is getting training and communication research through electronic media. It would not be wrong to call online learning, the 'future of education'. Online learning does have some weak points, but the solutions that have been provided are more than enough to cover up the cons. Online learning system is not perfect, it has some deficiencies, but it's definitely the system of the future. Many people still prefer traditional universities as the best way to get knowledge and a degree but online education is also a good proven alternative. Through online education students can study in the environment they find comfortable and the time they are free. All of this is for free as most online course which universities offer don't have any fee or if some courses have then that is very less as compared to the price of normal course at a university. In a New York Times article, experts declared that the real promise of online education is "providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms," which in turn fosters the concept of "learning by doing." Compare And Contrast Prepositions
Prepositions are one of the basic structures that make up the whole sentence. Even though some sentences can hold meaning without the help of prepositions, others need it in order to be completely understood. When first learning how to translate and interpret English to Vietnamese or vice versa, students can face some difficulties regarding the use of prepositions. In both languages, it is undeniable that prepositions occur at a high rate of frequency in written or spoken form; however, they have different roles in term of characteristic and usage with a few similarities. Therefore, this paper's purpose is to compare and contrast prepositions in English and Vietnamese to give students a fresh perspective about prepositions and guide them how to use prepositions appropriately.

This is clearly represented in English, for many research and studies about prepositions have been done. This, however, is not the case in Vietnamese. Prepositions, in this case, tend to be combined with conjunctions into one class, which is relational. The question is "Why is it the same thing but different in different languages?". That was the reason that made me first think of this topic when deciding what to write about. Throughout this paper, we will cover from the basic definition to the usage and characteristics of prepositions in both English and Vietnamese in a contrastive view. I will also provide some implications at the end to help students of Translating and Interpreting use prepositions

Cleaning with Barry and Britt
The act of being habitually and carefully neat and clean can make for an interesting topic in a comparison and contrast essay. Dave Barry compares the differences of how women and men clean in his compare and contrast essay, Batting Clean– Up and Striking out. In Suzanne Britt's compare and contrast essay, Neat People vs. Sloppy People she compares the differences of personalities between Sloppy people and neat people. Both essays compare cleanliness in one way or another however they both have differences regarding their use of humor, examples, and points made in their thesis.

The way Barry and Britt support their points in their compare and contrast essays differ. In Batting Clean–Up and Striking Out, Barry uses lots of personal stories and factual happenings to explain his opinions. For example, to explain how men are worse at cleaning Barry specifically refers to a volcano eruption that happened in Pompei because the men, who were in control of the cleaning, did not notice ashes piling up around and in their houses. In addition, when describing how men are better with sports than woman he refers to a personal story; specifically a story about a dinner party that he attended where the men were glued to the World Series and the women were still chatting amongst themselves. These forms of examples are personal stories that offer validity. On the other hand, in Britt's Neat people vs. Sloppy people she uses more dreamt up incidences to explain her opinions. For example when explaining how neat people are "viscous with their mail" she explains, " All ads, catalogs, pleas for charitable contributions, church bulletins, and money–saving coupons go straight into the trash can without being opened...No sentimental salvaging of birthday cards or the last letter a dying relative ever wrote. Into the trash it goes" (256). As seen in this example, Britt uses lots of lists and possible incidents that could exist to support her points, but do these incidences
Compare And Contrast Love And Hate
Love & Hate I never understood what people meant when they'd say "there's a fine line between love and hate". I was taught love was "good" and hate was "bad". Someone even tried to convince me that hate doesn't exist. But just like "good" and "bad", one cannot exist without the other. I have asked myself so many times how two words, or better yet feelings, that are supposed to be antonyms, opposites, are so similar at the same time. After living a little and doing much research I think I finally understand both love and hate, as two individual concepts and as a unified concept.
What is love? What is that feeling that has inspired millions of songs and films? Well according to Oxford Dictionaries, love is "an intense feeling of deep...show more content...

There are ways our government controls and protects our country. However, there are other countries that have a different form of taking care of their nation. By learning about the differences of a limited and unlimited government, we will be able to understand historical debate in the united states, comparison of the United States government vs another country with a different government type and how each government applies to the concept of a representative democracy.
First, a limited government is when the power of the government is limited by the constitution. With a limited government, everyone, including all authority figures, must obey the laws. The constitution protects the individual rights of the citizen. In a limited government, gaining power is not the main goal. The main goal is to improve public goods. However, a unlimited government is the opposite of a limited government. With a unlimited government, the government's power has no limits. Control is placed solely with the ruler and his or hers appointees. Unlimited government has total control over their citizens and no limit it...show more content...

Growth Mindset Compare And Contrast Essay
"No matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment." Carol Dweck made that statement, as she explained her new concept of contrasting mindsets. She called one The Growth Mindset, and the other The Fixed Mindset. These two opposing theories ignited a spark in schools everywhere, and brought up an interesting question. Are students not teachable because they don't believe they can be? A Growth Mindset is when, "people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication, and hard work– brains and talent are just the starting point,"Carol Dweck states, famous author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, the book that started the outbreaks in different mindsets. This mindset is the belief that people can evolve and change if they give enough effort, and persevere. A few of the advantages of possessing a Growth Mindset includes seeing your flaws as an opportunity to grow, having a more risk–taking personality, and leading a happier, healthier life. However, a disadvantage that commonly occurs is turning a Growth Mindset into a False Growth Mindset, which is the concept that a Growth Mindset is just being flexible, and open–minded, when indeed there is so much more involved. Definition: In this kind of essay, the aim is to show the similarities and differences of two items, two people, two countries, or how something or someone has changed. The most important point to consider while planning a comparison and contrast essay is choosing comparable items. e.g. Middle East Technical University and Bogazici University. Compare And Contrast Short Stories
Short Stories Compare and Contrast Essay The stories are the same but also very different. Both stories are very interesting. They have kind of a similar meaning but have total different meanings. In both stories the characters face death to one it was expected and to the other it was not. The stories compare in many ways, they contrast in many ways, and they are similiar in many ways. The short story "The Story Of An Hour" describes the series of emotions Louise Mallard endures after hearing of the death of her husband, Brently, reported to have died in a railroad accident. Mrs. Mallard suffers from heart problems; therefore, her sister and her husband's friend attempt to inform her of the horrific news in a gentle way. Mrs. Mallard immediately mourns the loss of her husband; however, as her grief comes to an end she makes way to her upstairs room. Mrs. Mallard locks herself inside; a weird feeling came over her. Confusion followed immediately after. She begins to feel an unexpected sense of exhilaration, yelling, "Free! Body and soul free". She began thinking of all the springs and summers she would enjoy without her husband around. Her sudden rush of exhilaration is what she believes is a benefit of his death. Her sister begs Louise to open the door; she is scared that Louise will become ill. As Louise and her sister descend the staircase, Brently enters the house. Louise suffers a heart attack upon receiving the shock that he has not died, and she is stuck in her
