Patrick Ness' A Monster Calls Essay
Patrick Ness' A Monster Calls, is truly inspiring and an emotional novel for audiences that changes ones' perspective towards facing death. Conor's mother affects the main character of the story (Conor) due to the fact that she has cancer. Conor seems to be maintained and calm since Conors mom is still alive. Because of her sickness, Conor was reunited with his family once again, but he wishes they would both leave since his father and grandmother are trying to make him understand that there's a good chance she won't make it. The audience can only understand Conor if they understand what's going on in his head. Overtime, this "nightmare" is shown throughout the text but is never explained until the final chapter. A nightmare that's been...show more content...
At this point the reader knows how tight Conor and his moms bond is, Conors mom means everything to Conor, and to have that taken away by cancer, is heart stopping. Time for wacky grandma and annoying dad! Conors grandma is not your everyday normal grandma. "[Conor] met Lily's grandma...she was how grandmas were supposed to be: crinkly and smiley, with white hair and the whole lot" (Ness 38). Instead Patrick generates Conors grandma as one who; "[wears] tailored pantsuits, dyed her hair to keep out of the gray, and said things that made no sense at all, like 'Sixty is the fifty'" (Ness 39). Patrick also lets the reader see who Conors grandma really is, such as; "Conors grandma pinched Conor's cheek so hard he swore she was going to draw blood" (Ness 38). She is seen to be very negative and harsh to Conor throughout the story, saying that Conor must accept the inevitable (in this case, his moms death), but she is doing it for the sake of Conor, he refuses to listen to her since he sees her as a negative vibe that is bad for him and his mom. Not only did his grandmother come to see her daughter, but Conors dad as well, all the way from America. Conors mom invites Conors
father to "visit" for the sake of Conor; Conor
Great Illustration !
Great Illustration! "Exposure to family and community violence is linked with aggression, depression, posttraumatic stress symptoms, and academic and cognitive difficulties" (Margolin, & Gordis, 2004, p.1). Children who are exposed to violence will likely go unnoticed and unattended by professionals who are counseling with the children and the child's parents (Margolin, & Gordis, 2004). Parents regularly underestimate their children's exposure to violence and maybe unaware that abuse is happening in the home (Margolin, & Gordis, 2004). Children who are exposed to violence incline to display symptoms related to everyday types of maladjustment (Margolin, & Gordis, 2004). Therefore, professionals could overlook and not be aware when violence tends
Fashion Illustration Essay
Illustration is an art that allows to create an amazing aesthetics that is hard to remake or achieve with the same aesthetic value using digital technologies or photography because of the emotional atmosphere, transfer of mood of the work of art and detailed visualization of images. The term "illustration" itself has a several meanings, but the most known is 'art design'. In the past, illustration due to its characteristics been only associated with books and magazines as a support for a text. However, as the time passed illustration became an individual type of art that no longer need to play a supporting role for anything. This evolution leads illustration forward to the division of a broader term into narrower subtopics, which introduced the creation of fashion illustration. From that point, it was clear that fashion illustration is one of the oldest and most important movements in the history of illustration. Through the time, it has always had a touch with graphic design and fine arts, it has an undeniable influence on fashion and vice versa. Right now, it is possible to recognize another story of fashion by them because they reflect an individual and not a group view on it, unlike in photography. Throughout history, the artists through their works have tried to push the boundaries of our perception, inviting to the world of their dreams and fantasies. However, before fashion illustration was brought to life, it is initially the engravings in the 16th century are
The Cat In The Hat Analysis
The Cat in the Hat is a good book for many reasons including how well illustrated and how well written the book is. Dr. Seuss has been known as a genius when it comes to children's books. He is very well known and that is one of the reasons why I chose The Cat in the Hat. The Cat in the Hat is about a cat who tries to make two kids have fun on a rainy day while their mom is away. There is also a fish who is an antagonist of the story because he is keeping the children from having fun by constantly reminding them that their mother would not like what was happening in her house.
The Cat in the Hat is a good book for many reasons. Our textbook uses two definitions for what a good book is. One of them being if the reader likes the book,...show more content...
The illustrations in The Cat in the Hat really show the story and even if this book was a wordless picture book then children could understand what is going on. I think that goes to show how much the illustrations really do enforce the text. On the very first page, Dr. Seuss establishes the setting with a picture of a house and one can assume that is where the story takes place (Seuss 1). Dr. Seuss uses a lot of visual elements such as lines to show movement and he only uses shades of blue and red to add color to his book. Something else that I found interesting was the fact that he used the seam in the book as a corner in the house. On the first page, you see the house with a window on its side but no door which would presumably be on the left side of the house where the stairs are. When you open to the second page, you see the children sitting at the window. On pages five and six you finally see the door appear on a separate page than the window. If you close the book slightly you can imagine this is a 3–D element to the book. I may be overthinking it but I think that if this was intentional then Dr. Seuss may have been smarter than people give him credit for.
The Cat in the Hat was published in 1957 during the Age of New Realism (Tunnell 51). The Cat in the Hat is coined for being introduced as one of the first beginning reader picture books (Tunnell 51). This was a stable time for the publishing of children's books (Tunnell 55).

Essay about Digital Art Technology
Digital Art Technology
Technology is constantly growing and changing our ways of living. It makes life easier at times, and more interesting too. When one would think of art in the past, usually computers and technology did not come to mind. Now because of modern technology, the digital age is uncovering vast ways to create amazing works of art through computer tools and software. Art is now digitally created and can appear unbelievable to the modern eye.
Digital art technology is in some ways, a form of art that can be constructed on a computer based template and still portray an artistÕs rendition but in a mechanical manner. ÒAs early as 1912, the futurists planned moving sculptures driven by machine, in which the...show more content...

ÒToday, computers are found in almost every area of art, though with varying degrees of success, acceptance, and originality.Ó (57, Wolf) Classical art is obviously the most widespread acceptable form of art. Acceptable meaning known; People around the world could tell you theyÕve heard of Michelangelo or Picasso. Classical art and digital art have certain similarities, but far more differences. Both forms of art begin with the artistÕs view of an idea or concept. They both have creative attributes and qualities that are controlled by the artist and viewed by an audience. Evidently, there is different media used in each form. Where classical artist may use a paintbrush and a canvas to create a painting, a digital artist would use software like Photoshop though a computer to create an image. However now, artists can even imitate media like watercolor, charcoal, markers, and even oil pastels with certain software digitally.
There are two kinds of computer based art that uses the computer as a tool for creating the work. The two kinds are computer–assisted art and computer–created art. ÒIn computer–assisted art, an application like a paintbox or music program is used in creation of a work. Computer–created art begins with an algorithm written by the artist, which when run, produces a work, usually with some element of randomness involved so that
American Illustration
After have dinner with a group of illustrator friends, posters on street inadvertently grabs my attention. Walking on a familiar path to home, I see posters are secretly glued on coner of wall, showed on large screen at side of street, passing around like booklet... if every poster stands for an event, then it is surprising to notice such many events are silently on going around me.
My major is animation, so my first though on illustration is that: posters are still frame picture with better detail crafted. Most illustration art and design on these posters are high quliaty in my point of view, yet many of them are having a familiar feeling. I point at an illustration on a flyer, it is a image of a cute girl drawn in manga style, and I asked my firend Lin Na how she thinks about this illustration in her profession point of view. Lin has worked as illustrator more than ten years and have lectured in our local university serveral times. "I am not a pro." Dr. Seuss Illustration Attractiveness
When I read the book, I found the illustration absolutely attractive. There are bright colors, imaginary and fun creatures, as well as their easy–to–read expressions for kids. On the other hand, the words used in the book were informative enough to include a lot of educational concepts like colors, shapes, sizes, numbers, opposite–adjectives and hilarious enough with its rhyming text. It tells about various kinds of fish and other interesting pets with their own uniqueness, the things they like/dislike to do and the problems that bothering them. Kids could travel together with this boy and girl to get to know these enchanted creatures. As for the answers to some questions, Dr. Seuss left it for the kids to ask from their parents. Illustration In Ken Robinson's Ted Talk
Seeing Ken Robinson's Ted Talk through illustration helps me get a visual picture in my head of what he might be thinking through his head. One Photo I would say stood out to me the most was a photo of a man sitting down but drowning in papers of work. The expression on his face looking tired to the point where he looks almost lifeless and depressed. What that photo is showing me is that instead of really helping students with that subject teachers are so interested giving busy work of what they might not understand yet instead of really helping them. I personally think that was put in there to show how your average student feels when he or she gets an abundance amount of homework. I believe Ken was trying to say there is a better way
Illustration Paragraph
So, let 's suppose that you have done some brainstorming to develop your thesis. What else should you keep in mind as you begin to create paragraphs? Every paragraph in a paper should be
Unified–All of the sentences in a single paragraph should be related to a single controlling idea (often expressed in the topic sentence of the paragraph).
Clearly related to the thesis–The sentences should all refer to the central idea, or thesis, of the paper (Rosen and Behrens 119).
Coherent–The sentences should be arranged in a logical manner and should follow a definite plan for development (Rosen and Behrens 119).
Well–developed–Every idea discussed in the paragraph should be adequately explained and supported through evidence and details...show more content...
Step 4. Explain the example(s)
The next movement in paragraph development is an explanation of each example and its relevance to the topic sentence and rationale that were stated at the beginning of the paragraph. This explanation shows readers why you chose to use this/or these particular examples as evidence to support the major claim, or focus, in your paragraph.
Continue the pattern of giving examples and explaining them until all points/examples that the writer deems necessary have been made and explained. NONE of your examples should be left unexplained. You might be able to explain the relationship between the example and the topic sentence in the same sentence which introduced the example. More often, however, you will need to explain that relationship in a separate sentence. Look at these explanations for the two examples in the slave spirituals paragraph:
Model explanation for example A– When slaves sang this song, they could have been speaking of their departure from this life and their arrival in heaven; however, they also could have been describing their plans to leave the South and run, not to Jesus, but to the North.
Model explanation for example B–[The relationship between example B and the main idea of the paragraph 's controlling idea is clear enough without adding another sentence to
Illustrative Essay About Marijuana
In my illustrative essay I'm going to be writing about legalizing marijuana. It doesn't seem like a good choice for some people but legalizing marijuana would probably change things a lot in our state. Legalizing marijuana would cut down some of the crime rate since people wouldn't be in trouble for selling or being caught with it. It would also help the people who has to have it for their medical condition. Another thing about legalizing marijuana is that marijuana doesn't really have long term effects on a person's health unless they start smoking at a juvenile age.
Legalizing marijuana would help cut down some of the crime rate and not much people would go to jail. By marijuana staying illegal it is hurting some people's future because people who get caught with marijuana could face jail time and having marijuana on you could be charged as a felony.in the article "Marijuana legalization: Research review on crime and impaired driving" it goes into great detail on how illegal marijuana can cause more trouble. It explains that cops are more likely to arrest a black male for drug trafficking than to arrest a white male for it. The article explains this by saying "Black men, according to federal data collated by the American Civil Liberties Union and widely cited by scholars, are almost four times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than whites, even though both groups use the drug at roughly the same rate." Legalizing marijuana would stop this and reduce
Illustration In Maus By Art Spiegelman
Illustration is by far one of the best methods of expressing a story or an idea to a large–scale audience. In literature, writer uses various amounts of illustration to appeal to their audience's interests and point of view.
But with Graphic Novels, readers see things the way the writer/illustrator sees them. Drawings, cartoons, and photographs can give readers the exact imaging the author wants to share with his readers.
When people think of graphic novels, most likely you would think of children's books or Superhero comics. Now this may be true; but the use of graphic novels hold a lot of benefits for adults as well. They're the perfect way to share a message without any miscommunication. And let's face it, almost every adult out has a favorite genre that can be shared in a graphic novel. I for one love comics with Anti–heroes and Sci–fi/Fantasies. One famous graphic novel that shows the power of illustration is Maus by Art Spiegelman, which illustrates the darkest points of the Holocaust with a perspective of mice (Jews) being suppressed by cats (Nazis)....show more content...
I myself enjoy writing and creating characters, but one of the greatest challenges is making molding their image with words. Even if I have a perfect visual of my character in mind and very descriptive choice of words, my readers will never see my character the same way I do. I might be able to attempt adding enough description in my text too help the readers see them, but that would take pages and nobody can keep an interest in a story if it takes a whole chapter to describe a character or a scene. But, if I use graphic illustration instead, I can share my characters along with the setting of the story and every crucial detail within a portion of a page. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand
Illustration: Make A Differences
Illustration: Make a Difference One of the most important things I can do to give back to my community is mentor to the upcoming freshmen at my local college. Perhaps the best way to achieve this is to make an informative video. This video would show the students all of the exciting aspects of campus life and inform them of the opportunities that can arise after graduation. One of the most challenging issues I faced when beginning college was not knowing what I wanted to do with my life after the fact. After researching available degree plans and jobs, I decided that a career in administration would be the best option for me. I believe that if students are closely advised from the beginning, they will have higher rates of success and waste less time on frivolous classes while they try to figure themselves out. Most students do not think about the cost of college, as they either have their parents or a scholarship to help them pay. For other students though, they have the option to pay out of pocket or get a loan to assist them. Research shows "The average student debt for a 4–year institution in Arkansas is $25,344" (Ticas). "Holy cow!" (K. Flachmann and M. Flachmann 162). All in all, I think that an educational video about college would prove to be beneficial for an incoming college freshman class. The video would address the aspects of campus life and show the opportunities available after graduation. Hopefully this video would provide adequate insight into the benefits of obtaining a degree and help the students to be less intimidated by the college experience. With most of the business world requiring a college education, it is more essential than ever that our young people follow through with college and better themselves on the
Baseball Essay examples
Baseball is a game of skill that is played with a hard ball and a bat between two teams of nine players each at a time on the playing field at once. Although many different people play Baseball all over the world it is most popular in the United States. It is so popular in fact, it is referred to as the national pastime of the United States because of the tradition and popularity associated with the game. Baseball consists of many complicated rules. It also has a very elaborate history. One can not fully understand the game America has grown to love until learning about not only the rules but also the history.

In each half of an inning one team bats while the other plays the field. If the score is tied after nine innings are over then the game is continued into extra innings and is concluded when one team is winning after an extra inning. These are the basic rules of baseball.
THE FIELD AND EQUIPMENT
Baseball is played on a field, which usually covers about two acres. The field is divided into an infield and an outfield. These two parts are considered fair territory and the rest of the field is considered foul. The infield is in the shape of a diamond and is 90 ft on each side. One point of the diamond is home plate which batters hit from. The other three points are bases: first, second, and third base. In the middle of the diamond is a pitchers mound which is slightly raised off the ground. The edges of the diamond from home plate to first base and home plate to third base are the foul lines, which extend all the way to the wall in the outfield. Behind first base is right field, behind second base is called center field, and behind third base is called left field. Fences are placed at the farthest limits in the outfield. In foul territory beyond the foul lines in the infield are dugouts where players sit when they are not playing or waiting to bat.
Baseball also consists of many pieces of equipment. Baseball equipment includes the following: a hard ball which has a cork center and has a circumference of 9 in., a bat made out of wood or
Comparing Forms of Illustration
There are several areas we can explore in regards to specialization in illustration. These areas include fashion, advertising, technical, editorial, and medical forms.
Although each of these forms has their own unique characteristics and attributes, the two forms that I am most interested in are advertising and editorial. For some time in my life I used to believe that these two forms of illustration generally meant the same thing. I was wrong because there are many dissimilar characteristics between the two. One of the main differences between advertising and editorial illustration is that advertising illustration uses all kinds of visual images and has a vast array of mediums available for usage. This includes photographs and sometimes including illustrations in the design in order to show something that the photograph cannot. According toThe Art
Institute, "They can emphasize, idealize, and show things that do not exist in reality. In some cases, an illustration may grab a viewer's attention because they know that the picture is not a photograph and they admire how well it is drawn" (The Art Institute). In my opinion, the possibilities and creativity is endless in advertising illustration because there are fewer limitations in contrast to editorial advertising. Editorial illustration is a form of illustration that primarily uses newspapers and magazines to cling to. These illustrations are used frequently to convey a message or opinion about the topic
Children literature Interests and intrigues many critics and adults in various ways, one of the topics that contrast critics ideology is whether illustration is literature on its own or not? Illustrated books were not appreciated throughout centuries it became widely accepted with quality and design were it improved in a unique artistic way. There are three types of books, illustrated book which are pictures that intensify the book artistically without including anything significant to the real story, secondly picture books; they include the same information where the words and images complement each other. The positive critics perceive that children are sensitive to the visual image; they need to develop a critical eye to visualize images, so they are able to evaluate the effective communication and recognizing effective illustration. Moreover, during the centuries quality of illustrated book began to change, in the past traditional books were used, they were easy to be understood. It did not challenge a child's mind. As for now, creativity merged throughout the years. As, things like postmodern picture book came about with features such as; Non linear ,intersexuality, word play, parody, transgression and destabilization, these features help a child to brighten his/her imagination. Critics such as William Moebius says 'images cannot–and must not be –looked at in isolation from surrounding text; images in children books always have context ,and a context ,and a sequence, and meaning is derived at least in part from their positioning in the text overall and their interaction with the word'' (William Moebius). William is emphasizing here that images for picture books have a context, sequence and meaning and words need pictures to support and entertain a child's mind. As, thrilling imagination tend to drift off with happy, funny and exciting moment keeping their sprit high. By, having an illustrated book it is intended to capture a child's
An Illustration With A Charter On The Five Senses
For the lecture, I attended I went to Professor's Eric Palazzo talk on the five senses on an illustration with a charter on it. The piece was from the middle ages and was depicting a religious scene more specifically Christianity. In the lecture, Professor Eric Palazzo explained the connections if any from the charter to the illustration. He also takes a time to explain every detail of the Christian illustration from the curtain to the people. In the lecture, he explains how in the charter it says things that don't match what is drawn in the illustration, which is very uncommon to have a charter with an illustration. The language of the charter I believe was in french which he explain the meaning of. Me personally never heard of what a charter...show more content...
Which was very confusing to me because at first seeing the image you don't think of any of the five senses. The image looks like a typical painting from the middle ages depicting religion. But as Professor Eric Palazzo went along explaining his reasoning it all fit in place. The illustration shows what looks like a deacon or priest holding the incense looking like he's waving across the table. But it is not the deacon but Christ. It was very confusing to me at first to understand how the deacon was christ and why was he incensing the table. He explained that the deacon using the incense he become Christ and sees through smelling the incense connecting to the image above which is not two separate image but one, the image above being Jesus. The men watching the deacon is like them seeing Christ there the incest. Also, the image of the bells represented the hearing sense. People hearing the harmony of the church. The other two senses are very simple to explain in the painting the taste sense can be explained by the wine in the painting. The last sense being touch is everywhere in the painting. Like the vision above you can touch it
Background Of Fashion Illustration
When I was young, I thought fashion illustration was drawn by illustrator's imagination. However, after taking the history of fashion illustration, I realized that my thoughts were completely wrong. The illustrations of various eras reflect the society, the economy, and also technological development. Diverse fashion changes have been detected by fashion illustrators. As long as fashion exist, there exist fashion illustrators. Cultural changes and technological developments have an impact on the way artists illustrate. The late 1800s and early 1900s were the periods of industrial revolution and the Victorian era. The industrial revolution marked a shift in textile manufacture, sewing machine, and aniline dyes. These inventions were utilized to add embellishments to ladies' apparel; machine–made trimmings were applied in bulk to the enormous. In particular, ready–to–wear clothes were produced for the first time in the early 1900s because of the mechanized production of textiles and the invention of sewing machines. Machines produced faster than hand making, making various and colorful patterns of textile selling them at affordable prices for many different people. As fashion industries continue to develop, the purpose of clothing has been divided into house dress, tennis apparels, swimsuits, and beach wears. The beginning of the reign of Queen Victoria, who was the queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, was a golden era of fashion. The Queen affected all of
