During my K–12 education I feel that it taught me how to fake it until I make it. You think school teaches you how to be an adult in the real world but it only teaches you how to be complaint. I never really thought about what I gained as a member of society. I think school tried to teach me where my place is. I learned how even though this is 2017 and women don't have to sit and look pretty, students are expected to sit and look pretty so to speak. For 12 years to earn a piece of paper I learned that I am expected to follow traditional rules and methods. I am expected to do as my teacher says because their title is teacher that means according to society they are smarter and better than you. I learned that my opinion and my thoughts have no merit compared to people with more experience. So thank you to 12 years of sitting in a class for 8 hours everyday to learn how to fake compliance.
In the Working class schools, Knowledge was described as a set of facts to be learned. Creativity was not important enough to be incorporated into the curriculum. During Elementary and Middle school we were taught to sit still and memorize facts, information and that there is one way of doing things, the teachers way. This form of education teachers individuals to follow other people's way of thinking and behaving. This is how schools prepare the future workforce population to follow the leader. In this type of setting students aren't taught to think for themselves or solve problems with new ways of thinking or unconventional methods. Teachers want you to be compliant and those who resist are perceived as a somehow less functioning member of society.Students act out and refuse to do the tasks given to them in class not because they don't want to learn but because the teachers aren't teaching them. So people who refuse to accept the Hidden curriculum integrated in our education are perceived as drop outs, stupid, bad kids instead of being seen as kids looking to be taught not going to school and memorize what is already written. In the Middle class school, knowledge was presented as understanding curricular material. There was less fact memorization and an encouragement for students to understand the content of the
Writing strategy
In order to teach essay writing to students, proper modeling is required for essay formats and analysis. A form that teachers can utilize in the classroom is the TEEL (Technique, example, effect, link) model (See Appendix 2.). However, students will work in groups to construct their understanding of textual themes and features that are explored in Life of Pi (Outcomes 2, 5, 12A). Normally, TEEL structures are associated to teacher–centred pedagogy and utilize paper–based learning with limited interaction from teacher to students and collaborations between students, which can deter student motivations in the classroom (Elen et al., 2007; Jones 2007). By using interaction and group–based learning the teacher will be able to...show more content...
Module C: Representation and Text
Elective 1: Representing people and politics
Module C explores the representations of people and politics through text to consider how texts portray perspectives on politics, "ideas, events or situations" (BOSTES, 2014, p.20). Using Brave New World (1932) by Aldous Huxley, which is a prose fiction text, students are able to explore how politics and actions can influence society and lives, creating a dystopia that devalues humanity (BOSTES, 2014, p.20). As the book is a study of political agenda, students are also expected to draw attention how certain vocabulary and language features can shape meaning to the text (Outcomes 1, 3, 4 and 7) (BOSTES, 2012). There are also a variety of different interpretations that exist in the text such as the dystopia created by power and lack of freedom as well as the struggle to be free. By exploring this text in an all girls' school, students are able contrast the representations women in the text such as the control over a woman's body and sexuality as well as social circumstances through Huxley's early 20th century context.
The text is set in London, where society has become industrialized and controlled by a social construct of a "World State". This concept provides insight into the ambitions of humans and that politics is so powerful that it can influence the way society acts. There is an obvious dystopia created around the segregation of humanity and the political
I believe that education its very personal journey that varies depending on the . The purpose of education is to prepare the children of today to be productive citizens of our world tomorrow. School serves as an important tool to prepare students to be independent thinkers, to develop skills that will help them in life and in the end to use these skills to be productive in their environment and hopefully change it for the best. Education begins from the moment we are born. From birth to about 6 years of age our brain does most of its development. That's why it's extremely important to surround children with a bright environment because this time of their life will most likely define how effective they will be in achieving success in the...show more content...

My goal when I teach anything to anyone even if its outside the classroom is for my audience to successfully learn what I intended to teach. I feel success when my students are able to retain the information and most importantly if they can find it relevant to their life. When I'm preparing to teach my students I always try to find a way to engage them in the lesson, anything that will spark their interest in the subject being thought. I feel that if you can't find something that excites your students, more than likely you are not excited about it yourself. The most effective methods for teaching are collaboration, relevance and action. I know this because this I how I learned therefore this I how I teach. The most important aspects of my teaching are preparation, student's engagement which ultimately leads to student success. Learning to me is the process of acquiring a new skill by exploration. Learning happens when there is a question or curiosity that captivates our mind and makes us wonder. More often than not children are told to learn this or learn and this is not conducive to lifelong learning. My philosophy of education is that children learn best when you
Teaching Phonics And Teach Phonics
One of the tasks required by teachers is to teach children to read and write, with this comes different approaches that teachers need to be aware of. Phonics is one of the approaches adopted by teachers when teaching children to read and write. Teachers adopt different methods to teaching phonics its what makes them effective teachers and adaptive. This essay aims to look closer at phonics and some of the different approaches used to teach phonics in the classroom. Phonic approaches that will be discussed in this paper include synthetic phonics, Analytic phonics, Linguist phonics and Word building.
Phonics is a method that teaches reading and writing, it aims to enhance investigation into sound–letter relationships and the understanding of the alphabet (Hill, S., 2012, p. 241). Phonics is used to assist with the decoding of words. However, it should be also used in conjunction with other approaches to allow readers to comprehend what they are reading not just decode the words. Phonics is valuable, but not the whole part of learning to read and write. Understanding what readers are reading is a very important role and should not be overlooked. Gough, Hoover and Peterson conclude (citied in Damianou, 2016, p. 128) that a 'child who cannot decode cannot read; a child who cannot comprehend cannot read either". Research has found that there are six elements that benefit children who are starting school that must firstly be fully understood, included are "the alphabetic code
Essay about Teaching Children Respect
Teaching Children Respect
Americans has placed too much responsibility on schools and teachers. Parents need to take command of the moral development of their children, starting with the issue of respect.
Respect starts at an early age. You teach a child to say thank you, no thank you, and please. These are normal and common first steps to respect and are considered being manner able. Most parents expect there children to use these courteous phrases to them, their selves, the parent.
Teachers and schools should not have to be responsible for teaching your child manners, common courtesy, nor respect. It is hard enough for teachers to maintain a learning curriculum on general studies let alone moral, ethics and values. Teachers...show more content...
Teachers can only assume so much responsibility because we only have control over so much. Until teachers can contribute to the budget of the school, to the rule and regulations of school, to the hiring and firing in the school, until we are empowered to do that, don't hold me accountable. Because I have no way of changing what I have to work with. I can't change the fact that there's no money for the books that I need. If I can't change what's in the home, I can't change the [Child] who comes to school. I take my work very seriously, but until those things are corrected, I do not want to hear about people holding me accountable. (Susan Lloyd, Alabama)
I believe that teachers do not quiet command the respect they did 30 years ago. People question teachers sometimes, and parents do not back them up quiet as much as they used to. This is true, and it's too bad. But it is true. (Ruth Jean Andersen, Kansas) As a substitute pre–school teacher through fifth–grade, I can honestly say that I have had my hands full with trying to establish common ground and behavior issues from students and it certainly is hard to set and make examples when you have other children with little guidance from home disrupt your class because of their attitudes and actions. They feel that if it is ok to disrespect their parents and others outside of school it is ok for them to do it at school as well. With pre–school up to 2nd grade it is easy to fit manners and other
Becoming a teacher can be an exciting and challenging experience for anyone. It can be quite difficult to put four years of knowledge into their teaching and into a classroom environment. And while it may seem challenging at first it does become easier over time.
A teacher is not only someone who teaches, but they are a symbol of learning.
A teacher is a person who plays the most important role in the development of any student. The future of those students depends on the qualities and the dedication of that teacher. It is the teacher who creates an interest in students to develop and to progress. It is the teacher who helps the students achieve whatever aims they set for themselves.

The curriculum then becomes more relevant, therefore the motivation for the students to accomplish the tasks increases.
The subject matter not only has to be relevant but it also has to be stimulating to the students' curiosity. If a student is bored with the content, they are not going to want to learn it.
The classroom also has to be seen as a caring and supportive place with a sense of belonging. Every student must feel respected, valued and heard. Giving children the support for learning by welcoming their questions and encouraging exploration is very important for teachers to do.
Extrinsic motivators are sometimes used when teachers have a student or class who feels like they have earn't something for their hard work. This could be things such as stickers or stamps on their homework and tests. Or it could be receiving verbal or written praise. It could be just the thing that motivates certain students. But not all students need to be extrinsically motivated. Teachers need to find out which type of motivation works best for which student to help them succeed.
Classroom teaching is more likely to be effective when it is informed by an understanding of how students learn. Constructivism is the current approach to learning in Australian schools today. Constructivism is how each student goes about constructing his or her own knowledge. This type of
My Passion is to Teach Essay
My Passion is to Teach
Every child thinks about what to do when they grow up, and every child changes their mind about a hundred times. I admit that I changed my mind frequently until I started high school. I wanted to be everything from a princess to a firefighter, but in high school I decided that one day I would be a teacher. I wanted to be a teacher because I think that our nation is lacking in teachers that want to teach. We have an abundance of teachers that teach because it is their job, not their passion.

I truly believe that education is the key to success. Success comes in different stages. Before a child can be successful outside of school they must fist be successful in school. Children need to learn to have confidence in their abilities and their work. They also need to learn to have confidence in themselves. They need to understand that they are special, ante that they are wonderful for just being themselves. As a teacher, I hope to influence children not only in their core curriculum but also in their ability to solve problems. In my classroom, I don't necessarily want the students to memorize facts, bi I want them to learn and retain the information on how to find the answers. They need to know the type of information they can go to the dictionary for help, encyclopedias, thesaurus, and the Internet.
My classroom will be very hands on. Children learn things better when they experience them first hand. They learn how volcanoes erupt the same way they learn that the stove is hot. That said, not everything can be taught in this manner. Many things in my classroom will be taught through the exploration of books. Children need to be taught that learning is fun or they won't want to learn. We all know that if someone doesn't want to do something they won't do it. I hope to be able to deal with all discipline problems by myself using the office as a last resort. I don't want my students to fear me, but I want them to
1. Instructional Context–My class includes 25 five and six year old kindergartners; 24 African–American students and 1 Caucasian student. I have 11 girls and 14 boys in my full–day kindergarten class where I teach language arts, math, science, social studies, and health.
My class is a typical kindergarten group, in that they are very active and learn best by doing. They are a very talkative group and are in constant competition to share their ideas and to have "their turn" to participate. I have some particularly active boys, one of which is on medication for ADHD, another who has autism, but is currently not receiving special services, and a 3rd who came to me from another district's developmentally delayed kindergarten...show more content...
I divided my students into 6 groups, making sure to split up the 5 boys who have difficulty focusing. I also enlisted a 5th grade student to serve as a "shadow" for my autistic student, so that he was able to follow instructions and fully participate in all of our activities. These stations were set up in areas of my classroom, which was a familiar and comfortable setting for all my students.
2. ¬Planning and Instruction– The social skills addressed (taken from my state's Readiness Assessment) during this period of instruction were:  following rules/routines,  respecting others,  getting along in a group, sharing/taking turns, and  asking for help when needed.
Although, not all 5 and 6 year olds will master all of these social skills in kindergarten, these skills are within the "widely held expectations" of children this age (NAEYC, 1997). Through 20 years of teaching experience, I know that 5 and 6 year olds are becoming increasingly independent, but they still enjoy working in small groups. In addition, 5 and 6 year olds often behave in a warm and empathetic manner, yet, they can be bossy with others and at times, have difficulty sharing, and taking turns. Also, interacting with other children in small groups provides situations for children to extend their knowledge, thinking, and skills through input from their peers.
The overall theme for this unit of social studies was "America's Past and
Action research is used in observation of various experiments to determine a specific plan of action or approach that can possibly result in the highest achievement for children. Today we face the issue of how to effectively teach students with learning disabilities and meet the lesson plan objectives. I will explore three potential issues that currently exist in the educational system and how an action research plan would prove beneficial.

Problem Statement
The problem is how to create lesson plan activities that teach students complex thinking and problem solving skills. How can we integrate computers into teaching to reach specific learning objectives? Computer technology is used more and more in today's educational system. Educators are faced with the task of deciding which genre of computer software is used based on the particular task at hand (i.e., math or science). A main objective of computer technology in education is to teach the student how to develop strategies and different study skills.
When determining which computer–based software to use, educators must consider the content area, student developmental level and the particular interest of the student. There are several genres of software to be used in computer assisted learning. For example, you have drills, instructional games, learning games, multimedia tutorials, reading management programs and integrated learning systems. These genres of software enhance student achievement by teaching a variety of learning styles, strengthen basic skills. It also allows students to organize complex
Literature for Use in Classroom Essay
Literature for Use in Classroom
Donna E. Norton's purpose in her book is "intended to help adults discover ways to share their enchantment with books, our literary heritage, and an appreciation for literature that will last a lifetime" (v). Teachers share that same goal. In selecting literature for a classroom, teachers need to take in account the following: the school's standards and benchmarks, the adopted sequential curriculum, the age of the students, their stages of language, cognitive, personality, and social development. Teachers need to have the literature curriculum set for the year, but flexible enough to meet the needs of the students in the classroom.

The optimal learning experience encourages risk taking. Risk taking involves making sure students are comfortable and confident in the classroom with both peers and the teachers. A safe, supportive "kid" friendly classroom has many different areas to address.

Teaching Students How to Read Essay
Teaching Students how to read
Learning to read is an on going process. Aesthetic and Efferent reading are the two types of reading a student can do. Aesthetic reading is when people read for their own enjoyment and to make their own visuals and interpretations in their head. Efferent reading is when students read for a specific purpose, for example finding the answer to a test in their textbook. With both types of reading, there are many steps a student has to be made aware of as they are learning. There are five increments of reading before a student becomes fluent. They have to go through the process of pre reading, reading, responding, exploring, and applying. As the reading process is being taught, it is essential to...show more content...
If demonstrated properly, this will give the student a better understanding of punctuation and emotion to move them to the next step of reading. Students have to give feedback on what they have read to show that they have an understanding. When they are giving feedback they are responding. Students can write how they feel in a journal based on a question the teacher gives them. They can also tell the class their feelings on the book they read. Children need to think about the book they have read. They need to think about the way the author wrote the book and the new words they have learned in it. This is called exploring. After the students take time thinking about the text they need to do an activity. This final stage is called applying.
Teachers need to go over important information as the students are learning the stages of reading. (Tompkins, 2009, 72–73)
One thing teachers have to add to a lesson plan as students are learning to read is phonics. " Phonics is a set of rules that specify the relationship between letters in the spelling of words and sounds of spoken language"( Learning Point Associates, 2004,pg13). It can be used as children are learning to read to help them decode words. Phonics helps determine what letters make a specific sound and why. As children are learning to read and write it is the teachers role to model phonics. Phonics can be taught by a teacher focusing on a specific letter and having the

discussion, play way method, blackboard, workshops and daily life examples. Clark & Steir (1988) found that teachers are responsible for poor performance of students in mathematics due to teaching methods which they use ,which show lack of commitment in preparing and imparting knowledge to students .They believe that variation in teaching methods by teachers tend to improve performance and that methods of teaching should be child centered rather than teacher centered.
Attitude of students towards mathematics
Attitude towards mathematics understood on a continuum which varies from favorable at one end to unfavorable at the other end. Attitude of students can be influenced by the attitude of the teacher and their method of teaching. Teachers' method of teaching mathematics greatly accounts for the student's favorable attitude towards mathematics. Without favorable attitude results in the development of interest and motivate students to put in special effort for success in the subject.
The National Council for Teaching Mathematics (NCTM, 2000) states that developing a positive attitude toward learning mathematics is an important aspect of a student's learning experiences. Sliva (2004), also highlighted the importance of attitude towards mathematics and its effect on performance. Positive attitude, good teacher–student relationship, educational values held by the family members, presence of a positive role model and student's innate character all

The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career. Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. Unconsciously or not, they consistently reinforce and reward more 'feminine' behavior. Although it may be true that boys are more active than girls, but to say that they are treated differently is to be overly generalizing the situation. A teacher is supposed to be able to handle different types of children in the classroom, and cater to their activeness or passiveness in a class. For example, a teacher would try to involve a quiet and shy student as often as possible. The same goes for an active child; the teacher should be able to find activities for that child which would not only educate them, but also keep them busy.
Thomas provides various arguments as to how boys and girls are different; therefore they are treated differently in a classroom. It cannot be argued that boys and girls are different, especially at such a young age, but to say that teachers specifically do treat boys in a rougher manner would be going too far. Thomas introduces the idea that society instills ideas of prejudice towards women in young boys, so that when they do go into a classroom governed by a female teacher, they are predisposed to be defiant and unruly. In my opinion, it is unfair to judge teachers based on the performance of their students on various tests. Thomas's article introduces the idea that as the number of female teachers is increasing, the performance of boys in school is declining. One much question whether it is in fact the teachers who cause this
Creating a Positive Learning Environment Essay
Research shows that the learning environment encompasses more than just the classroom that learning and teaching takes place. Many factors contribute to a learning environment, including the students, teachers, parents, school staff, policy makers, specialists, support staff, community members and the different learning spaces and resources available. This reflective journal will discuss some ways that teachers can set up the learning environment to maximise teaching and learning and some potential advantages and difficulties for me as a new teacher.

By creating collaborative relationships we can gain a greater depth of knowledge regarding student's needs and abilities and implement new teaching practices to maximise teaching and learning. When relationships are built on trust, students and parents can play an active role within the learning environment and teachers and staff can work together to develop a learning environment that caters for and celebrates diversity. Consequently everyone feels a sense of belonging and empowerment because with relationships comes an understanding of the others needs, interests and concerns. Cramer and Stivers (2007, p. 63), argue that "collaboration is no longer an ingredient in school life but an essential feature", however, not everyone may see it like that. Some staff and parents may not see the value in collaboration, there may not be an inclusive school culture and inclusive policy and practice may not be in place. However, I do believe aspects of these barriers can be overcome by sticking to my core values and beliefs and by becoming an advocate for the inclusive practices I believe in.
This week's material on the principles of Universal Design forced me to rethink the way curriculum and practices are undertaken and forced me to see teaching and learning in a new light. Child Nutrition And Exercise Essay
More and more parents are struggling these days to find time for family exercise in their busy schedules. And even when the whole family comes together for a group activity, motivating kids to enjoy a physical workout is also a challenge. However, by planning fun and creative activities that involve the entire family, parents can help their children enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
One of the keys to teaching a child the importance of proper nutrition and exercise is to emphasize maintaining a healthy weight in their formative years. Expose your kids to the benefits of healthy living – a stronger body, increased confidence, and more energy – and most will make exercise a regular part of their lives. Physical fitness for children can start off with turning a simple activity into a game. The kids just think they are playing a fun game, and do not even realize that they are exercising at the same time.
PLAN GROUP ACTIVITIES
Activities that involve the whole family, either in pairs or a group, is another creative form of encouraging children to exercise. Competition will often motivate kids to work harder so divide family members into teams, and offer nutritious prizes for the winning squad. If your kids have friends hanging out at your house, invite them too. Regardless if you decide to play a game of basketball, frisbee, soccer, volleyball or even take a brisk walk, your kids can enjoy a family activity while also getting some much–needed exercise.
ACTIVITY OPTIONS
Kids have short attention spans and because of this, parents should provide their children with a variety of physical activities that will not only keep their interest levels peaked, but will help you and your children learn which activities they enjoy the most. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, including your kids. Plan an assortment of activities at regular intervals which are appealing, interesting, challenging and fun to your kids, and mix things up often so each activity does not become boring and predictable.
CREATIVE ROLE MODELS
It is much easier for children who have parents with healthy lifestyles to choose the same path when it comes to physical
Using Process Approach For Teaching Writing
Strength
It is controversial to use process approach to teach writing in the recent years. There are many teachers support that process approach is a good teaching strategy to be used in lesson since it is beneficial to students. It helps students to get a new understanding of the writing process, comparing to the traditional writing style.
First, process approach encourages comments in different stages. During writing, students are encouraged to seek comments from others. It is good to students as feedbacks are not only given by teacher, but also peers. Most of the time, positive comments will be given. These advices give students a picture on how others think about their writing. In other words, they can read their own piece of writing from a new perspective. These comments will be more useful to student since it helps to build students' confidence and good feelings for the next writing. These comments also guide students on how to make improvement on their text. Comparing to product approach, which feedback is usually given after the submission of the final writing by teachers. Students may easily forget the comments given after reading. Therefore, asking comments throughout the writing process helps students to develop their skills to response to others comments and make improvements.
Second, process approach encourages creative writing process. Comparing to product approach, product approach only emphasizes on the final product while process approach emphasize that
Teaching Reading Skills For Students
Introduction:
There are many means that a teacher can approach reading with students. Teachers lay the foundation for a students for students' futures when teaching reading skills. Having strong reading skills are a necessary part of a successful educational program. When these mechanisms come together it permits the students to become better readers. Students need foundational skills and scaffolding which are completed in different stages. According to Bonnie B Armbruster, Fran Lehr, and Jean Osborn have deemed that there is a concise order to proper reading skills which also coincides with a person's cognitive development. These five stages are the key to proper reading skills for life. "The evidence is clear: reading is about as good as it gets for the optimal development of children." (Capuano, 2010) All people that tend to the child are part of the reading foundation for the child.
Phonemic Awareness
Researcher, Hallie Kay Yopp, had describes the phonemic awareness as a speech flow that a person makes and a sequence of sound. It is specifically phonemes, the smallest unit of sound that makes a difference in communication. (1992; pg696). Phenomes are single sounds that when combined create words. In school and when reading to children we are training them to be able to differentiate miniscule changes in words such as men and Ben. This skill allows for smoother and more fluent reading later on. (2001).Parents and teachers should encourage students to
My Dream As A Teacher
From a young age I have always wanted to teach and inspire others to learn. This was heavily influenced by my upbringing as my dad has always taught me that you can never have too much information and any new skill you learn is a new skill you can use. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and learning from others. For me personally I believe that teaching is such a valuable career choice as the devotion and passion required from teachers is what is needed to be able to deliver the best education for the students.
I would love to teach young adults and inspire them to want to learn and find out new information and skills and to grasp all they can while they are at school. I want my students to feel supported in their career paths and I hope to be there to assist them achieving their dream career/job. As a compassionate person I would like the opportunity to help kids who don't think they can be at school and won't ever be successful to change that perspective and help them come up with plans in how they are going to achieve what they would like. Coming from a business degree majoring in Human Resource Management and Public Relations, it has reinforced for me my desire to teach and/or train people. Since April 2016 I have been working with QUT as a Widening Participation Ambassador, and this has reminded me of my career idea as a child to be a teacher in high school as I really enjoy my job liaising with students.
My dream job is to have the ability to help and teach students about history and where we have come from to get us to the present day. As a student I remember History being one of my favourite subjects as I loved learning about all the facts of the past, and I would love to be able to share our history with students. History to me shows how far we have come as a society as well as the mistakes we've made along the way, and represents us as people today. I believe a key part of Modern History is the recent technology progressions, and how much things have changed within just 50 years. To teach history to students would be a great privilege.
Secondly, teaching Maths is something I enjoy, and I have helped my younger sister with Maths over the years. Maths is one of those subjects a lot of students find
