Notes On Leadership And Management
1. Leadership and Management
Leadership and management are 2 major concepts in the world of business and most likely to be confused with each others. This assignment tries to determine if there are any differences between the 2 concepts.
1.1 Leadership Definition
Leadership has many different definitions, however, leadership in management is defined as the leader is the person who others are following, and to have followers it's a process that needs an impact of that person on others to follow him. (Yuki, 1989)
Leadership is also believed to be a form of social interaction process that happen among members of a team or a group, and leadership is the skill that person can lead the followers in most efficient way.
There has always been the...show more content...
(Katter, 2001)
Leaders are also considered to be playing an essential rule in any organization; they are the passion and the creativity they can introduce to the workers within organization. Leaders are gifted with flexibility, innovation, inspiration, courageous and independence. Managers on the other hands are the mind, the rational and persistence, analytical, authoritiv and stabilizing. (Capowski, 1994)
The main question here still is what is the difference between management and leadership? The major difference between managers and leaders is the way they motivate their staff. The style of their role wither they are managing a group or leading a team to succeed and achieve the set goals.
Managers are not necessary leaders and on the other hand leaders do not need to be managers to lead others to achieve goals and targets. However, some people can be both if they are assigned as mangers and gifted with the leadership skills, qualities and personality to be able to have others following them.
1.3 Management Theories
There are 4 main models of management that theories and approaches adopt in the style of management. ; The Classical Management Theory, Human Relations Theory, Neo–Human relation theory and System Theory.
Classical Management model takes place usually in a very structured workplace with prescribed roles. These roles are assigned to each
Essay on A Literacy Event that Changed my Life
A Literacy Event that Changed my Life
All my life I have been a lazy person, doing just enough to get by. Most of the time, in high school, I was content with just a "C". The only time I wasn't, was if it was a class I liked, and I paid attention to. If this was the case, I could have received a 99% on a test and been dissatisfied. But, for the rest of my classes, which were most of my classes, that I didn't like, I never paid attention to or did homework, and I still managed to do well on tests. So basically I didn't do anything except take tests and I still got satisfactory grades. In school I was so lazy that there could have been a project due worth about 20% of the final grade and I still wouldn't do it.

Regardless, I received a zero on this project, thus failing that marking period.
Since Jr. High I haven't read a single book that was assigned to me in English class, hence my poor English grades. In fact, when my marks started to improve in English my GPA soared from a 2.1 to a 3.0. When my marks finally improved is when I started getting along with my English teacher. I never got along with any of my English teachers for some unknown reason. Maybe because I hardly did any work at all. I have to thank the book, The Great Gatsby for helping me find my prolonged love for my English teacher, and every English teacher since. Out of pure coincidence, as soon as I read my first assigned book, I suddenly got along with my teacher. I read the book for no reason other then that I finally thought that a book that was assigned, sounded interesting. And sure enough I was right. I read the book and enjoyed it. Before I read this book, the teacher and I were really at each others throats, literally. I found out from a fellow student that overheard her talking about me and she said that she would love to have the chance to knock me out. I laughed at the thought, since she did weigh about 100lbs and was over 60. I am very thankful for The Great Gatsby, and thankful that I read it. Since reading the book, I have joined a book club and bought a few books, and am in the process of reading one right now. A lot of things changed

Essay on Comparing Positive and Natural Law
Comparing Positive and Natural Law
"Do what you believe is right." This is a phrase common to us all, brought to our attention by parents, reinforced by teachers, and preached by leaders. But how does one define what is right? Is it what we believe in our hearts, or is it what we know is acceptable? This is a predominant dilemma that can be traced throughout society, and is the main focal point of Sophocles' play Antigone. Written in 441 B.C., Antigone is one of the earliest records of the conflict between Natural law and Positive law. Sophocles deftly exposes these two philosophical standpoints and their respective moral and political aspects by way of the two main characters, Antgone and Kreon. Antigone is a champion of Natural...show more content...
This position becomes apparent when he utters the lines "...if I see disaster marching against our citizens... I shall not befriend the enemy of this land. For the state is safety. When she is steady, then we can steer. Then we can love" (224–229). This ultimately sums up the Positive law belief that society always comes before self, that once the society is safe, then you are permitted to allow for yourself.
With each philosophy located at opposite ends of the social spectrum, a dilemma is unavoidable when the two face each other. This is the backbone for the entire plot of Antigone. On one side is Antigone, who pursues her self–righteous beliefs whole heartedly and without question. On the other side is Kreon, who acts in response to what he believes is best for the society. Both characters are justified in their behavior. It is their motives that set them apart from each other. Antigone knows that she will suffer personal anguish if she does not carry out her actions. "But if I had let my own brother stay unburied I would have suffered all the pain I do not feel now. And if you decide what I did was foolish, you may be fool enough to convict me" (572–574). She acts in her own personal interest, concerned for her well–being. She believes that her motive is one that should be accepted, that love for a brother could never be viewed as foolish. Kreon, on the other hand, makes his decisions as a king rather then an uncle. He
Jose Garcia Villa's Footnote To Youth
The short story "Footnotes to Youth", written by Filipino writer Jose Garcia Villa, talks about a young boy at the age of seventeen Dodong, who was initially very enthusiastic about life, but then the obstacles and tribulations of life got the best of him and made him became grim about life. This goes for same for his wife Teang, who carried the burden of taking care of six children and doing household chores, and as a result she became shapeless and thin. Both of their lives became miserable after having children despite their young age.
By reading the literary text "Footnotes to Youth", it is found that the theory of psychoanalysis is applied in the story. Through the dreams and the thoughts of the character, it is shown that the characters of the story had inner feelings within them....show more content...
He thought that life had been made ugly for him after his marriage to Teang. Teang felt the same, as she wished that she was not married, or at least that she had no children. There is also denial when Blas told his father, Dodong, about his proposal to Tona. Dodong couldn't believe that his son was doing the same thing as he did eighteen years ago. However, he could not do anything but to give his blessings to his son reluctantly and hoped that he would able to go through th tribulation of life.
There is also evidence of archetypes, an easily recognizable role in literature and drama. It is found that one character can have more than one archetype, as long they meet the requirements. In the short story "Footnotes to Youth", it is discovered that Teang was the anima, or the ideazed female in Dodong's mind, as he constantly dreamt of her day and night. He desired her, and wanted to marry her. Tona was the anima in Blas' mind as well. The statement he gave to his father, Dodong, that he "wanted" her, suggested that he had a sense of possessiveness within

power of the fukú, distinguishes his narrative from the profound precision that is typically applied to history. This can be seen when Yunior rejects the supposed objectivity of history by questioning, "Where in coñazo do you think the so–called cure of the Kennedys comes from? How about Vietnam? Why do you think the greatest power in the world lost its first war to a Third World country like Vietnam?" (4) In this case, objective facts would be useless; without being applied to the context of a narrative, facts possess no meaning. Rather, Yunior's employment of the fukú enables the reader to imagine links that were formerly unseen. First, imitating the literal separation of the marginalized text from the content of the body, Yunior undoes the authority that Trujillo wrongfully gained through suppressing others by making him the subject of a majority of the novel's footnotes. In doing so, Yunior establishes a reversal of roles between Trujillo and the marginalized people of the Dominican Republic. In addition, Yunior's inclusion of footnotes creates a double narrative containing the contesting authorial voices that are found within the margins and in the main text. In addition to asserting the dangers of a single voice, Yunior's use of footnotes enable him to neatly intertwine the historical facts of the Trujillo's dictatorship with the fictional narrative of the Cabral family. This nuance between history and narrative obscures the line between fact and fiction and allows Yunior to undermine the authority associated with history's characteristics of being linear, singular, and

Essay about Freedom Riders
Freedom Riders
"Freedom Riders" were a group of people, both black and white, who were civil rights activists from the North who "meant to demonstrate that segregated travel on interstate buses, even though banned by an I.C.C. Ruling, were still being enforced throughout much of the South" (The South 16). The Riders attempted to prove this by having a dozen or so white and black Freedom Riders board buses in the North and travel through Southern cities. This was all "a coldly calculated attempt to speed up integration by goading the South, forcing the Southern extremists to explode their tempers" ('Freedom Riders' 20). The author of the Newsweek article stated this as the Southern opinion of the reason for the Freedom Riders. The...show more content...
Several incidents of beatings were reported, sometimes with simple weapons, other times with weapons of mass destruction conducted by local citizens as the freedom riders passed through their city. Very often, "the cops were conspicuously absent when the blood began to flow" (The South 16). One particularly violent incident on May 14, 1961 occurred when someone threw a bomb into a window of an interstate bus. When the twelve passengers on the bus exited because of the smoke and flames, the waiting mob pulverize beat some of passengers up. The police arrested four men in conjunction with the bombing, yet the four men were only charged with "willful damage to vehicles in interstate commerce" (State is Warned 1). The fact that this incident was taken so lightly is appalling. Clearly these men should have been punished or convicted more severely. The hurt freedom riders were taken to the local hospital, and none were seriously injured.
We examined two articles about the bus bombing incident, one from Time and one from the New York Times. The Time article gave a much more general overview of the incident, and lacked some details, such as who was arrested and why, and the response of the government. The New York Times article discussed this information in great detail. It includes the names of the perpetrators and the reason for their arrest. It also discusses the response of Attorney General Robert Kennedy, who

The 2015 NBA Draft is nothing now but a footnote in NBA history and now the Summer League is underway. Were all aware of who the top players are and who's projected to carry the torch that the last generation of stars will leave behind but there are players worth mentioning who might not have received the press that they deserve. In this year's draft, the next agent zero or even the next Paul Millsap was picked late in the first round or even the second. It's too early to tell who the stars are that missed the lottery but there is a couple of sleepers that are just as good as the players picked in the lottery and here's a couple of names you should get used to.

In addition to that, for six successive years, Dodong and Teang kept having children. At this point, Teang began to feel unhappy in their marriage. She cried sometimes, wishing she had not married. She did not tell Dodong this, not wishing him to dislike her. Yet she wished she had not married. Not even Dodong whom she loved. It is interesting to note here that Teang still claims to love Dodong despite the hardships they have gone through. It should also be noted that Yet she wished she had not married, is a sentence that is separated from Not even Dodong whom she loved, meaning it is the act of marrying at a young age that she regrets, not the fact that it is Dodong whom she married. Not marrying Dodong was only an after–thought.
The story goes on, however, to describe another suitor Teang had, Lucio, who was older than Dodong by nine years. Lucio had married another after her marriage to Dodong, but he and his wife were childless until now. If she had married Lucion, she wondered, would she have borne him children? Maybe not, either. That was a better lot. But she loved Dodong.... Here we are given a clearer picture about her unhappiness and disappointment.

FOOTNOTE TO YOUTH: SCRIPT
NARRATOR: Dodong thought to himself he would tell his father about Teang when he got home. He was hesitant about saying it, but he wanted his father to know.
DODONG: I will tell it to him. I will tell it to him.
Dodong thought of his age, seventeen. Dodong started homeward, thinking how he would break his news to his father. He wanted to marry, Dodong did. He had pimples on his face, the down on his upper lip already was dark––these meant he was no longer a boy. He was growing into a man––he was a man. In the cool sundown he thought wild dreams of himself and Teang. Teang, his girl. She had a small brown face and small black eyes and straight glossy hair. How desirable she was to him.
