Influence of Media on the Ideas of People
An essay on the influence of mass media on the ideas of people
The mass media including television, radio and newspapers have a massive influence in shaping the minds of people. Let us pause for a moment and examine the statement made. The statement written above claims that the minds of people have been shaped and moulded by the media used to communicate information to the masses – not as much by the message being communicated. In essence, this means that these channels of mass communication either magnify the influence of the message being communicated or bear within themselves the power to influence the ideation and decision–making abilities of people. To put it in everyday language, the mass media has the power to take an average...show more content...
Conversely, while the positive impacts equally justify the existence and importance of mass media, they emphasize the influence of mass media nonetheless.
Media influence on children has steadily increased as new and more sophisticated types of media have been developed and made available to the public at affordable costs. The influence of media, especially the television has been nearly instantaneous. Suddenly the television begins to dictate values, sets the standard for peer pressure and influences the ideas formed in these young minds without them even being aware of it. The beneficial effects include early readiness for learning, educational enrichment, opportunities to view or participate in discussions of social issues, exposure to the arts through music and performance, and entertainment. Unfortunately, it's a package deal that often comes with harmful influences resulting from sensationalization of violent behavior, exposure to subtle or explicit sexual content, promotion of unrealistic body images, presentation of poor health habits as desirable practices, and exposure to persuasive advertising targeting children. While some might dare attribute this influencing capacity to the message being disseminated, it is not so. Just because children can use media and technology doesn 't mean they are effective at critically analyzing and evaluating the messages they receive. Children require a set of skills to ask
The Media Influence on Society Essay
The Media influence on society
According to Noam Chomsky, "What lies behind us and before us are very small matters compare to what lies right to the face." The issue of the media influence on society's cultural structure has frequently been debated. The impact on the audience by the media influences the interpretations of social order. Also, the media goes hand in hand with American politics. The information provided by the media is controlled by business cooperates and their economic interest that is shared by political elites. The media is responsible for creating different classes with respect to appearance, color, economic status, religion, and with the help of politics, advertisement because of the media's powerful influence on...show more content...
The news which reach public is filtered thought many steps. Among the most important are the business cooperates who owns the mass media, interest that extend beyond the United States and across the globe to different countries. The media is bias about the Israeli – Palestine conflict. If Israeli soldier die, the media without delay shows the coverage of crying mother and relatives. Audience learns more about died soldier. It is more certain that very less coverage is provided if hundred of Palestinian dies. This creates more sympathy for Israilian than for Palestinian living is America.
The economic interest of the media owners are shared by political elites. Politicians and policy maker forms the second filter. These political elites have the power to access and influence the mainstream media and are themselves, part of the system dominated by cooperate money and interest. A good example is the Bush administration and their false statements made against Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11 tragedy. The Bush Administration as well as the media began to influence people in a way breeding contempt for the Middle East. During the Bush administration the coverage of his speeches about War on Terrorism notifies that Iraq is harboring weapons of mass destruction; this speech convinced people they posses weapons and were ready to use it against America. Media Influence On Culture
The media has a large influence on culture and our beliefs. Many people are influenced and affected by what the media says about their own culture or other cultures. The media can make some cultures seem better than they are and make some cultures seem worse than they are. For example, the police are given a bad reputation for shooting and killing people for no reason. This is manipulation of the media because they do not give people all of the details on why the police shot them. What actually happens is that the police are forced to shoot people because they are carrying weapons and refuse to put them down or even use them against police. Also, most news channels are sided with a certain political party. These news channels will try to hurt the reputations of opposing politicians, while trying to boost the reputations of the politicians in their party. A way I have seen this is that my grandfather, who is a democrat, watches one news channel, and my grandmother, who is a republican, refuses to watch that channel and will only watch a different one, saying that channel is just a bunch of stupid democrats. A third way people are influenced by the media is through celebrities. For example, if a celebrity says something controversial, their fans will sometimes agree with them and also believe what they said to be true. Although sometimes they have no idea what they are talking about and are just trying to sound intelligent but end up being a bad influence.

Media Influence on the Youth Essay
Media Influence on the Youth
Media strongly affects youth culture. The media executives are quick to defend their role in youth violence and bullying while selling millions of dollars in adds focused on youth.
TV producers, network executives, motion picture companies and others in the media deny any impact of their programs on the attitudes and actions of youth. Meanwhile they continue to spend millions on special effects and marketing geared to increase appeal to youth markets. While corporations spend millions on market research and advertising to create products and campaigns targeted at a youth demographic, they still deny their ability to influence youth. An example of this would be simply as follows. Even adults are manipulated by these practices. For example, Roots comes out with a new hat. You hear an ad for this hat on the radio. You may be curious but you cannot visualize the actual style or yourself wearing this item. Next you see the ad in a newspaper. Now you can visualize the product but it is only a photo. Now you see a television commercial. The persons in the commercial are snowboarding and having fun. A song is playing in the ad that catches your ear. Now you subconsciously associate the product with fun, excitement and style. Now you want to go and purchase that hat. This is a straight example of how the media in it's simplest for influences youth culture. Now if you consider how often youth are subjected to the idea that you need to look perfect, be thin, use violence and smoke pot etc. it is a powerful and effective influence or it would not be such big business. If they took more responsibility in the attitudes they are creating they are scared that they would not make the revenues that they currently enjoy. This has an effect on society as a whole because of the younger kids looking up to the older youth for guidance. They want to copy the older kids as they see as "cool". Adults have a desire to look and feel younger and therefore they tend to follow youth trends in order to facilitate this behavior.
Thus the media has a large influence on society as a whole. It
Media Influences Children's Behavior
Media can be described as the social and mass media that children are exposed to in their daily lives. Examples of the media platforms and materials include radios and television broadcasts, movies and music, newspapers and magazines, social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google Talk, Skype, among others (Samantha 2013). Media plays a critical role in the lives of the children. It provides a socializing tool, educative and informative resources, entertainment, marketing and advertising. Although the contents` and accessing of the media contents by children are regulated, some of the contents of the media accessed by children indicate violence incidences (Samantha 2013, p. 6). Exposing children to Violence contained in the contents of these platforms may or may not influence the behavior of the children. The writer postulates that exposing children to media violence has a negative influence to their behavior that develops a hostile and violent behavior in the children.

Media Literacy and Media Influence
In today's world media literacy has become a very important commodity among our digitally connected society. With so many users connected to social media mediums such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. it is very important that people understand how to properly analyze, evaluate, and interpret media as well as develop the ability to create media. This, in essence, is what media literacy is about and with so many different sources of information streaming through our daily lives all at once, being media literate can not only help us discern actual facts from fiction, but it helps us better understand some of the complex messages we receive from these sources. Throughout this essay I will discuss my media literacy by talking about different media products and how they have impacted and helped shape my life as well as the culture of our society. The first product in this essay and the first product to ever influence me was the numerous Spider–Man comic books from Marvel publishing. The very first comic books that I encountered in my life came in a two pack at Walmart and contained the 30th anniversary issue of The Amazing Spider–Man and Spider–Man: Maximum Carnage issue 13. Of course, when I first received these comics, I was only infatuated with the pictures but after reading these comics and collecting a few more, I became entranced and inspired by the tales
How Media Influences Women Essay example
We, the American public are hit from every imaginable direction every waking moment of our lives by slick advertising agencies trying to coerce us into or tell us why we need to buy their products. Their products will make us happier or thinner, or prettier. The advertisers often use the picture of youth and vitality so that the public will associate that particular product or service with being young and beautiful. They do this because of course in our society youth and beauty are to be coveted. Everyone would like to be forever young and beautiful or for as long as they can anyway. So, everyone is trying to look younger or wants to look younger. The things that we can associate with youth are obvious. We see the picture of youth and...show more content...
Twenty years ago, the average fashion model weighed only eight percent less. Only five percent of all women are born with the ideal fashion model body, which of course leaves the other ninety–five percent inundated with images of only the five– percent ideal type body.
Advertising uses a lot of different techniques to show the public the perfect female image. Body doubles and computer retouching are two examples of how advertisers are able to "doctor" images. The majority of women we see in magazines, music videos. and movies do not appear in reality, as we perceive them in the media. We may actually believe we are looking at one woman's body when we are actually looking at sections of three or four women's bodies, which, when spliced together, shows us the best parts of each women's body as the final product. Women cannot attain these impossible standards of attractiveness. Young girls learn very quickly that they must spend much time, energy, and money on achieving these standards.
What happens often times trying to achieve these impossible standards is to control appetite at all times and willpower become essential, the body in affect becomes the enemy. Eating disorders have become a trend among woman and girls as they become increasingly conditioned to lose weight (be in control).
Anorexia nervosa and its associated syndrome, bulimia is an extremely dangerous problem that is becoming more widespread. The chief symptoms are self–induced starvation and/or binge eating

Does society influence media or does media influence society? In a modern world, dependent on continuous communication this is a very important question. If the world were not dependent on communication over large distances, schooling on a mass basis would not be possible or necessary. Most knowledge in traditional cultures was local knowledge, (Geertz 1983) traditions that were passed on through a local community, a very slow and long drawn out process. Today we live in the "Whole World" in a way that would have been inconceivable to anyone who lived before the 19th century.

An average reader loves a good scandal, especially something to do with anyone in the public eye regularly, for instance: royalty, popstars, footballers and film stars. What society wants to read about is their private life and just how they live, and this puts pressure on the media to travel further to gather stories.
An increase in the "paparazzi" has led to a great deal of pressure being put on the rich and famous, with every detail of their private life being examined, all for the sake of a story that will satisfy society.
On the other hand, it cannot be doubted that media influences people's attitudes and outlooks by conveying a variety of information which is acquired from newspapers, books, television, films, recorded music, magazines, showing how wide and dense the structure of today's media is.
'Recreational' media such as newspapers and television have great bearing on society. Not because the media control popular opinion, but because this media is the source of information on which the public feel qualified to pass moral judgement and decisions.

The lack of funding information makes this an ugly tax view and a bit of a striping of even more liberties. One of Obama?s tax proposals is to eliminate all federal taxes imposed on senior citizens making under $50,000 per years and not requiring them to file tax returns. This may be a good way to get the senior vote, but it?s much more complicated than it seems. First of all, senior citizens often have income from multiple sources including capital gains, dividends, Social Security, retirement plans, etc. Determining their exact income would still require the same effort as filing a tax return. Additionally, this plan gives special tax treatment to a group if individuals based solely on their age, which seems like borderline age discrimination. Why should a struggling single mother have to pay taxes on her $49,999.00 income when a retired grandmother would pay noting on the same income amount? The media has destroyed our generation, sure it brought loads of entertainment but so things don?t need to be made into another chance to have fun, such as voting, marriage, having religion, and the concept of death. Even our youth are becoming soulless killers, mainly because of the music and the influences behind them. The majority of teens use social media in order to measure their popularity against others. A popular trend called 'selfies' are now arising amongst teens. Teens measure their self–worth by posting their 'selfies' on Instagram. There becomes a constant battle as to who can get more 'likes' and comments on a picture. Victoria Woollaston also states that, "The majority of teens post the photos in search of assurance and compliments, but they are making themselves vulnerable to negative comments and abuse". In search for attention teens do not realize that they are bringing down their self– esteem. Most teens are likely to delete a photo if it doesn't get as many 'likes' as they would want or if they were to receive a negative comment on a photo. Today's teens are now making it easier to get bullied through social apps. In many cases teens often bully themselves. There is a constant battle
Essay On Media Influence On American Culture
In today's society, media is present in our lives 24/7 allowing it to have a major influence on our culture in both positive and negative ways. The article "Television, Black Americans, and the American Dream" explained how Black Americans have been represented in the media and television. The media has shifted our understanding of racial inequality away from a structured process. This makes it seem as though racial inequality is "natural and universal rather than as result of social and political struggles over power" (Gray, p. 431). This is illustrated in the CBS News documentary The Vanishing Family: Crisis in Black America by following the lives of underclass, single parents. The article begins by describing the National Review cover that featured President Clinton, the first lady, and Vice President Al Gore all in yellowface. The article was meant to show the political corruption during Clinton's campaign since he solicited donations from the Asian community in return for favors. The National Review did not make it seem as though Clinton was at fault, instead, they created the image that Asian money had polluted the political process. For many years and still to this day to some extent, Asians have been seen as a pollutant to American society, or they are perceived to be out of place and therefore have been cast as an economic, social, and sexual burden to the American society. Matthew Fong is one example of this. He was a fourth generation Californian who ran for secretary of state. During his campaign, he was asked if his loyalties were divided between the United States and China, just because of his appearance. Even though the events described happened over twenty years ago, there were still issues surrounding race in the past election. One example is Pepe the Frog. This started out as an innocent online comic that turned into a meme and eventually became offensive and racist as the alt–right began to use Pepe. The number of offensive Pepe memes grew in number before eventually disappearing from the everyday person's

Television and its self–directed version, cable, allow for the mass influence of these elements in both positive and negative ways. The positive aspects of violence and competition within the socially accepted structures of competitive youth sports and athletics promoted on TV and in video games and equally, in the fashion, dance, and young love seen in sitcoms, movies, and MTV music videos. Conversely, the use of junk foods, cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol combined with irresponsible, casual sex, excessive and explicit violence dominate much of the negative influence of media on America's youth. Joseph Dominic concludes, "that youngsters that are heavy TV viewers would display a pattern of beliefs and perceptions consistent with media portrayals (Dominick, 446). Regarding violence in mass media, again the young are exposed to a culture of violence reflected in the media. How the media sells or promotes those perceptions is the "reality" of the media. From a war somewhere in the world to the wars in someone's home, the media directs the interpretation of what is necessary, correct, moral, and immoral. From what is happening, is not happening, should happen, might and will happen, and what is and is not the cost the media influences our realities and reactions. With all these mediums to ensure communication and information to communities globally, it has become a great staple in how many conduct their lives and communicate to others. While many would suggest that we are to not believe everything we read or see, could that mean that it has the ability to have a negative effect on some? The main influences were location or environment, family, friends/peers, men, individual psychology, cultural background, race or ethnicity, and media imagery" (p. 305). Peers have a great impact with how girls view themselves. Friends or peers are supposed to be a big support system and what they say is greatly taken accounted for. The media is a huge form of communication and source of information in the United States; on one side of the dispute are the beliefs that the media is too opinionated. On the other side are the beliefs that the media is just a simple informer that just reports the facts. The main issue for both of these beliefs is: does the media affect opinions on the issues from opinionated reports, or does it just report the facts that public may already know? If one could answer this question then they would know if the media was responsible or not for writing history.

Confidence in the media especially the news media has been sinking. Recent polls held by the Pole Research Center shows that eight months after the 9/11 event public confidence plummeted below normal rating levels. The public is irritated by the media's unwillingness to admit its mistakes. And, nearly sixty percent of those polled think that the media is biased. It is also known that a few months after the 9/11 event media is back to its old habits such as analysis, opinion and speculation, and that are largely based on anonymous sources. Of course the public prefers information that is not interpreted or hyped. For example the media's favorable treatment of Bill Clinton and his efforts to re–write the history of his administration has pushed confidence levels to a low. By allowing and promoting Bill Clinton and his effort gives the media a hyped since of favoritism that is obvious to the public view. The public's confidence levels have gone so low that the public believes almost nothing Bill Clinton has to say which disrupts the media and its credibility.

Media is a huge part of people's lives in today's society. Through different forms of media people can now obtain vast amounts of information at the slightest touch of a finger. While it is convenient and comforting to have access to so much data, the question arises. How much of this information we receive shapes our lives? Mass media as an agent of socialization can prime and/or skew people's belief system through mere exposure without the slightest clue of it affects. Mass media as an agent of socialization can structure people's perception on society as a whole by simply using influence, control, and trust.

Media influence is the force by which ideas are injected into people's lives shaping the very culture of society. This influence is masqueraded through hidden media message, resulting in a change in its audience which can be positive or negative, abrupt or gradual, short term or long term. Although mass media's influential effect can reach a wide ranged audience as an agent of socialization the responsibility to contain what it releases has not been of importance. "The media's socially significant obligations are formally ignored." (A.S. Zapesotskii, 2011, p 9). Media messages can be exerted through many different outlets such as TV shows, music, movies, commercials, news, magazines, games which are all gravitated to entertain audiences ultimately offering personal gratification that can sometimes blur the lines between reality and
Media 's Influence On Public Opinion Essay
In the last 80 years technology has advanced giving us various amounts and different types of medium in which we can source information from. When absorbing information, humans naturally conclude with an opinion. This essay will base around the issue that media does influence public opinion, in a way that the media uses different media effects and sources of medium to control the publics opinion. The subconscious media effects of Framing, Agenda setting and priming is used by the media in the method to control and alter the public opinion on a news story or political campaign. This essay will also look at several major media events throughout the last 80 years, drawing upon the examples of social media and war and how they have been structured and used to involve the media effecting peoples lives. Framing Media has been able to control and influence opinions of the public through news stories within the last 80 years through the development of framing. Framing is when a story or piece of news is portrayed in a certain way that is meant to control the audience's opinion and attitude, to agree one way or the other that the media wants them to. The technique of framing can be seen as a controlling technique of journalism writing to sway or trick the audience to base their own opinion on what is being presented. The purpose of framing is a method so that public opinion cannot chose to go against what the story is intending the audience to agree with. Journalists argue the

Researches performed over the years have indicated that media methods such as agenda–setting, priming, and framing are important factors in influencing and shaping of public opinion.
Agenda–setting is one of the most important factors in shaping public opinion. Agenda–setting can be defined as the ability of the media to direct public attentions toward the issues they believe are important to the public. But whose choice is it that determines which issues are more important over others? The news media can set an agenda–setting by focus attention on selected issues on which the public will form opinions from (McCombs). The media can paint a memory in your head by repeatedly repeating the issues on different media sources as Internet, network televisions, newspapers, etc. Since these sources are the cheapest and easiest to access, the information can be view by vast number of audiences. As quoted in a 1922 classic called "Public Opinion" by Walter Lippmann,
"The media are a primary source of those pictures in our heads about the larger world of public affairs, a world that for most citizens is 'out of reach, out sight, out of mind' and what we know about the world is largely based on what the media decide to tell us" (McCombs).
In other words, what we perceived as important issues in our society are mainly determined by what the
