The host and moderator sits in the middle between the two other cast members. The majority of this was assumingly done on purpose by FS1 as "Undisputed" was created almost nine years after ESPN's first debate show. However, in order to reach ESPN's success, you need to format your show similar to theirs, as Jim Shea's article discussed. FS1, saw the masses of sports fans gravitating towards "First Take", and realized in order to stay relevant in the new age of media new programming had to be brought to the forefront. The ascetics of each show are the same, but what about the content? Therefore, on September 25th, 2017 the day after the protests took place, both "Undisputed" and "First Take" debated over the highly controversial issue. "First Take" opened the show at 10am discussing the topic, as Molly Qerim asked for each cast members opinions The opening segment on the anthem protest lasted roughly ten minutes. The mood seemed somber, as Stephen A. Smith was the first one to begin speaking, as he is an African American male. It was easier for him to discuss his opinion first, as the topic is a sensitive one because America is divided on the issue. Smith claimed he was "disgusted", and went on to state, "President Trump does not conduct himself benefiting of the President of the United States of America". The tone appealed to the emotions of that specific weekend, and what many Americans were feeling at the time. Already, we observe that ESPN's number one rated debate show is able to talk at great length about political issues. It is clear that would have never been the case ten years ago. Smith voiced a strong opinion claiming "the president condemned NFL players peacefully protesting with more fervor than those the words, and the actions of Neo Natzi's and White Supremacists". Smith said it wasn't about politics, but one man (Donald Trump) as to why some African American players knelt for the playing of the National Anthem. The words of Smith were powerful, and intelligent to the common viewer. Smith spoke for

Abstract
A Week 3 assignment in the class, PHL/717 Constructing Meaning, required a philosophical analysis of an article in the Journal of Psychology. The article investigated how the connection between knowledge and learning influenced individuals to think about controversial everyday issues. The analysis included identifying philosophical assumptions, explaining practical significance and applicability, and relating assumptions and methodology to class readings.

The scientific community has debated the methodology of the attainment of knowledge since Aristotle. Social science, such as the study analyzed here, wants to develop a more engaged relationship between knowledge and practice (Delanty & Strydom, 2003). Conceiving their study on previous research done about the nature of knowledge and the nature of learning that influences thinking, Schommer–Aikins and Hutter (2002) introduced an additional element of contemporary controversial issues encountered in everyday life. Their research looked to populations outside of academia to support their hypotheses. Generally, they were able to prove a relationship exists between individual beliefs about knowledge and learning and the ability to demonstrate higher order thinking. Education and critical thinking influence these beliefs (p. 16). The nature of knowledge and learning beliefs influence thinking in everyday life.
Methodology
Kuhn (1996) describes a paradigm as the accepted norm of a science. The standards, rules, and scientific tradition one follows in a particular area of scientific study comprise the paradigm. Research, such as the one described here, "is a cumulative enterprise, eminently successful in its aim, the steady extension of the scope and precision of scientific knowledge" (p. 52). The study provided

The two items I chose from the Speed museum were the two vases by Fulvio Bianconi and Vicktor Emanuel as the modern pieces and the ancient Egyptian canopic jars. Upon first sight, my first thought was that the purpose of these items is obliviously to hold and serve as containers for other objects. Though they are different in size, it's clear they serve that same idea. Both items are also shaped in sort of a rounded and spherical way; the edges are smoothed out and they all have a nice organic flow to them. There is nothing geometric or jagged about any of the pieces. While reading deeper into the description of the Egyptian jars, I found out that they were used to store the deceased's organs during the process of mummification. These jars...show more content...
Though the vases themselves aren't geometric in shape, the design in the painting creates a bunch of abstract squares and rectangles. The design on the other vase looks to be like a tree growing upward. The black strokes seem to represent different size branches as those found on a tree or a plant of some sort. Another noticeable difference is that the modern vases are European, one being from Sweden and the other from Italy. The ancient jars, as previously stated, are Egyptian. The sizes seem to differ between the modern and ancient containers as well. The modern vases appear taller and leaner compared to the shorter and more rotund jars. This may be because the jars did not have to be very tall in order to hold the organs; they were able to serve their purpose at a smaller height and a wider circumference. The tall and slender shapes of the vases were probably just a design or style choice the designer made to achieve his vision. The materials used to create the pieces are worth noting as well. The vases were probably glass blown and then hand painted while I couldn't really tell for sure what the jars were made of but it appeared to be some sort of stone or clay. Either way, the Egyptians used organic and natural materials found in their environment and carved and chiseled them by

Critical Analysis of an Ineffective Essay Author, Harriet Davids, of "The Extended School Day" believes all elementary schools should adopt an extended school day policy. Davids main ideas focus on the safety of the children, whether it be in the care of a nanny or home alone, safety is the number one priority. Davids not only states that an extended school day will be beneficial to the parents and the students, but also the teachers and staff involved in the after school programs. In an affective essay there are seven essential elements that must be followed to skillfully create a forceful essay. Adding a sentence such as that connects the paragraphs creating much needed flow. Unfortunately unity and coherence aren't the only elements wrong with Davids' sentences.
One of the most important components of an effective essay is effective sentences. Effective sentences are defined as complete thoughts. They should not consist of run on or incomplete sentences, poor grammar or incomplete thoughts. Effective sentences allow the reader to focus on the essay topic and understand the point of view instead of getting lost in the long sentences. Davids makes many careless errors when developing her sentences, many of them being fragments. As an author, Davids should automatically know not to start a new sentence with and, which she does several times throughout. Instead of using 'and' Davids could have created compound sentences. Davids word choice also takes a toile on the effectiveness of the essay. Using words such as 'they' repeatedly (in paragraph two) makes for a chaotic ineffective essay. Finally, a conclusion paragraphs function is to summarize the main points of the essay. Davids, instead, chooses this time to add another point to her persuasion, talking about the great expenses of an extended school day. She chose not to summarize the original ideas what so ever, leaving the reader only to guess that the essay was over. If it wasn't for the fact that it was the last paragraph published, the reader would have never been able to label it as the

Context for Usage: The grade levels this text is designed to prepare educators for teaching is evidenced first in its overall discussion of properly preparing students to be able to write on demand for state assessment tests. Given that such tests do not regularly take place until students are out of elementary education it is apparent that this text is directed towards teachers working with a higher age bracket. This is also further revealed in instances where teachers are directed to help students think backwards, a skill that is not highly promoted in elementary education as most children at this age level have not yet developed the capacity to think backwards. The process described for enabling students to analyze prompts is also one that would be dominantly used beyond the beginning years of education. Considering each of these factors, the aim of this text is to be utilized by teachers working with a middle school to high school age bracket.
Learning Objectives: Learning objectives promoted in the college level class on teaching writing that this text was handed out in, strongly emphasize the importance of group work, as revealed in the writing theory handout and the scholarly overview handout (see attached).

Marie de France's Lanval is a tale about a knight in King Arthur's court who meets a lady who happens to be a fairy. Lanval gains her love and she provides him with every generosity that he could possible imagine upon the condition that Lanval not tell anyone of her love for him. When Lanval returns, he is approached by Arthur's queen for an affair which he declines, and as a result the queen is irritated. Lanval becomes defensive and insults the queen by telling her that his beloved and her servants are "worth" more than her. In his insult to the queen, the existence of his lover is obviously revealed. For the offense of insulting the queen, Lanval is brought before King Arthur. The confrontation between Lanval and King Arthur brings attention to the value of status as a measurement of personal worth in the court of King Arthur. Marie de France's wording in line 360 depicts the King's angry disposition towards the claims that Lanval made: "The
