Knowledge is Power for Success Essay
A college degree is needed to be successful in this world. This was drilled in most if not all students' head throughout their school days. The pressure to be successful will drive most to pursue a college degree. Some students attend college for the love of learning and others for the desire of success. In the essay "What is College For?" Gary Gutting states, "Our support for higher education makes sense only if we regard this intellectual culture as essential to our society". If we don't consider learning and knowledge as a necessity pursing a college career is pointless. At a young age my grandmother drilled the importance of knowledge into me. Instead of giving toys on Christmas she gave books and told me education was the one...show more content...
If students don't value the lesson taught in the course the information won't be learned. In order to secure the lesson taught the student must have an interest for the subject or passion for learning. Without this interest or passion the student will only remember the information for the test not truly learning and obtaining the information. Gary Gutting argues, "Colleges and universities have no point if we do not value the knowledge and understanding to which their faculties are dedicated." College is pointless and professors are wasting their time I we don't value our education. The greatest gift of education is the gain rewarded to students. College is about learning new things and growing from the experience. Expect and be willing to gain from each course taken in college. Gain new knowledge that one didn't know the day before. The saying "You learn something new everyday" has always excited me. My experience in college has made me realize the true meaning of that quote. Each day of class hold a new lesson of knowledge that was unknown to me the day before. Gaining this knowledge has made me a better and stronger person. Learning new things has strengthened my determination to learn. Once one learns something no one can rob them of that knowledge. The insight of knowledge one receives is apart of them forever. Knowledge is learned so it can be taught again to someone that it's unknown to. The gain of knowledge I have received will
Education Is The Key To Poetry Analysis
"Education is the key to success"
I have chosen the theme "Education is the key to success". I feel that poetry is one of the best manners to express the importance of education. I will elaborate using three poems namely, "My parents kept me away from children who were rough" and "Elementary school; classroom in a slum" by Stephan Spender and "Blue Umbrellas" by D. J. Enright.
The first poem I will analyze is "My parents kept me away from children who were rough" bye Stephan Spender. This is a poem about a boy who was confronted by lower class boys whom his parents did not like. His parents warned him to stay away from them. Although the boy was warned, the boy still found himself admiring certain elements of the "rough" children's lives. But he was still afraid of their bullying ways. In the first stanza "My parents kept me away from children who were rough/ and threw words like stones and who wore torn clothes." The word...show more content...
The speaker says he is more afraid of these boys than he is afraid of tigers. Stanza 2 line 2 reads "And their jerking hands and their knees tight on my arms." This implies that these children have made physical contact with the speaker; they were probably tugging on the speakers clothes and trying to talk to him. At some stage they kneeled on the speakers arms to keep him secured on the ground. In the last stanza line 4, the speaker says, "I longed to forgive them, yet they never smiled." This means that the speaker attempted to make friend with them but 'the never smiled'; these rough children did not try as hard as the speaker did. They did not try to worthy to be forgiven. The speaker's parents kept their child away from the rough children, so that the speaker could get an education. The parents knew that if the speaker associated himself with those children, his education will not be his key to
The Key to Success in Life Essay
Famous spiritual leader and philosopher Swami Vivekananda, once said the way to success is to
"Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone." To me this quote embodies what is it takes to be successful. Much like a marathon the goal isn't to come in first place and win but to simply finish and to do that you have to want to keep going, the pace at which you do so is irrelevant as long as you finish. Success has no definite definition like love it has many different meanings and holds true to different things for different people. Although society has its claims on what...show more content...
The only guidelines this "10,000 hour rule" falls under in terms of success is the dedication put forth. Gladwell exclaims that "Practice isn't the thing you do once you're good. It's the thing you do that makes you good." If you are willing and able to practice something for 10,000 hours you have shown an immense amount of dedication already therefore in a way becoming in Gladwell's eyes successful. I believe that success is different for everyone. To say that doing 10,000 hours of something will make you successful is irrational much like love you can't measure success under such terms. To some doing something for 5 hours is enough to personally fulfill their their goal and happiness. In my opinion looking from a younger generations eyes this is setting up for disappointment and failure to tell someone they can only be truly successful at something is if they practicing for 10,000 is insane. Although there is much truth to this, the reality is most people don't set out to be the greatest of all time but the greatest in their hearts and perhaps practicing for just 2 hours a day for a month is enough for them to appreciate what they have done or learned. Although it can be argued that children with a better upbringing may be able to reach success because they were taught to not always accept the answer "no", does not mean other children can not reach success. A study that Gladwell bought up in his book the Outliers, shows that children

Motivation: A Key for Success for Educational Leaders
David Smith

Thesis
The problem for educational leaders is that motivation is the key to success in the education setting and not everyone has this motivation. Effective educational leaders need to motivate people by using extrinsic motivation while treating everyone fairly, not showing favoritism, and still following God's plan and the Bible.
Introduction
One of the most essential topics in ethics delves into motivation and how it can be used while showing fairness and being Biblically and legally...show more content...
Extrinsic motivation provides a way leaders can use external sources that motivates each individual by providing them positive reinforcement. The societal issue with motivation is that it can result in an expectation for the individual while others could look at it as favoritism. Legal issues can be seen in constitutional law and educational law; "Yet laws are passed and administrative acts undertaken that fairly cry out for invalidation but cannot be declared unconstitutional without referring to motivation." (Ely, p.1207) Looking at it Biblically, as Christians we need to be motivated by God who provides heavenly rewards rather than things which provide worldly rewards. "My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work" (John 4:34).
Motivation
The ultimate goal as an educational leader is to be effective in teaching the people we work with to have self–determination and self–motivation and this paper will show how using extrinsic motivation can lead to self–motivation. "Let's define leadership as actions that result in the improvement of organizations through positive modeling, positive motivation, and the implementation of specific initiatives" (LeTellier, p.1.) This quote speaks volumes to the keys to success for leaders many, which were discussed throughout the course, and it includes motivation. "Sources of influence that not only exert a powerful influence on people; they also bring glory to God in the process"
Education Is The Key For Success
We grow up being told education is the key to success. It 's the only thing that will guarantee a stable happy life. The problem is that high schools are only promoting one option and failing to prepare us for it. It 's not a bad option, despite many of us not being the ideal candidates, but it 's also not everyone 's ideal choice. When your teacher asks for your scores the last thing you expect to hear is, "This school cheated you." I realised I wasn 't the only one who was robbed. Despite my scores another teacher kept stressing how necessary it was for me to apply to universities. She encouraged me by letting me know her scores were worse, butshe was accepted into my dream school. I had originally planned to attend a community college and transfer in the future. I knew I didn 't qualify for financial aid and I wouldn 't meet the requirements for scholarships, nor the deadlines for them. I was a student–athlete involved in several other extracurricular activities, I hardly had time to eat or sleep. Add last minute applications to my plate, top that with upcoming finals. I did not have time to write about what I would use for self–defence during a zombie apocalypse in hopes of receiving two–hundred dollars. Just a very small fraction of what I would need to pay in the future. She said community college was beneath me and I would become stuck there. If I didn 't apply to universities she would fail me, thus I would not receive my diploma or be able to continue
Education has been told to us as the key to a better, developed and civilized society. With proper education, there can be no limits to an individual's achievements in life; but on the other hand, lack of access to education is a major building block to a primitive, backward and uncivilized society. A bad education system designed not for learning but only to keep children who can not afford private education in schools is a recipe for oppression as it widens the gap between socioeconomic status, gender and age. It trains people to be a part of a capitalistic and oppressive society by reinforcing classism, racism and sexism (Lipsitz, Lozenski, Ford, 2014).
A better society is defined by its quality of education and health standards. It has been notice that where there the education system is oppressive or oppressed, the health sector follows suit. One cannot go through an oppressive education system and expect the opposite when it comes to health care provisions. Therefore the system of education has a direct impact on the health care system of a society, the rich who benefit from the system of education also benefit from health care system. It comes into play when I look at the system of education that makes the rich white majority acquire better education services at the expense of their black counterparts or people with color in the society (Giroux, 2017).
A system that chooses controlled base on color and social standing in the society has contributed to various social
Homework: The Key To Student Success Essay
One of the most difficult challenges that teachers and parents face is getting teenagers to do their homework. A common complaint with high school students is the fact that they do not have enough time to do their homework. In the year 2000 American students are holding down more jobs, taking on more household responsibilities, and participating in a greater amount of extracurricular activities than any other generation of American students. (Homework: Time To Turn It In?). As more and more distractions are made available to the American teenager, it is imperative that today's students are aware of the importance of doing their homework. Homework is a necessary component of every successful student's education. By doing homework, a...show more content...
With the usage of homework as a practice forum for students, education experts recommend that secondary students should spend two hours per night on homework (Do You Have Too Much Homework?).
By becoming more independent learners through homework, the average students will demonstration an improvement in their grades. Students that habitually do their homework can expect to have greater test scores and also higher class grades. (Homework: Time To Turn It In?). This is because students are taking time to develop their understanding of skills and concepts through practice and self–understanding. However, not only will students' grades and test scores increase, but in a 1996 United States Department of Education survey it was found that, "Students who read eleven or more pages each day for school or homework have higher average reading proficiency scores than those who read less than five pages a day" (Research: Literacy Facts and Figures).
As students' grades, test scores, and proficiency scores increase, their chances of graduating with a high school diploma and continuing their educational career also increase. With more education, students have a greater chance of securing a more stable and higher paying job than those students that either drop out of high school or only earn a high school diploma. According to United States Department of Labor, the unemployment rate is
"It is doubtful that any child can reasonably be expected to succeed in life if he is denied the opportunity of an education." This was announced by the U.S. Supreme Court on May 17, 1954 (Thompson, 170). It would stand to reason that to live up to this decree, the child's way of thinking, and quite possibly life, changes in the process of gaining said education. This is especially true of a black student attending a predominantly white school. I believe that the effect of black students gaining an equal education as their white counterparts improved their lives in many ways. Each person's behavior and the way they relate to others, both in public and private, demonstrates the customs by which they were raised. Religion plays a central role in the life of Black Americans. It is a constant characterization that gives life meaning and sustains survival efforts within the community. The Black Church gave an outlet for a number of talented blacks to express themselves and develop self–respect and pride (Thompson, 124). These developments were critical in preparing a person for the experiences they have after leaving the ghettos. For example, once a young black person enters into the mostly white school, they come to understand that there are really no differences between each other's own religious practices. There is also the possibility that blacks may come into contact with other Americans, such as Jewish immigrants, who have been going through similar struggles to become respected citizens of the United States. With this knowledge each individual has the opportunity to see that the hatred during the time not only comes down to race but also involves any group of people who is not the majority. This is an eye–opener for anyone who lives in their own little pocket community that does not have the ability to view how the rest of the country is treated.
Monetary wealth is a major component of the fight for equality. "The concentration of male Negro employment at the lowest end of the
Essay on Education Is Not the Key to Success
About 20 years ago, education was something that a person did only if he/she wanted to. Unfortunately, as the years went by, the idea of "Education is the key to success" got more, and more enforced. People eventually started to believe that education was the single way to succeed, and the only thing needed for success. Despite the fact, many Americans believe a college degree will lead them to be successful, in reality, education is not the solitary way to succeed. Not everybody can receive an education, or even an excellent education from a "decent academic" college/university. "There are many students who have no desire to attend college and who would be much better off if they...show more content...
Education or book learning had nothing to do with the success of those people that chose to take another path rather than the typical one (education). People can be successful in any field with the right skills. Book learning has a lot to do with the knowledge a person has, but not with the skills a person has. There are many A+ graduates out there that cannot get a job, or are stuck working at a place that had nothing to do with their degree. A numerous amount of students in college care more about grades than knowledge; some graduate having forgotten everything they ever learned. So there goes a college graduate with little knowledge and no skills. Can a person like that succeed? No. That's why education is not the key to success. People cannot just go to college and expect that passing classes will get them to succeed. The main thing a person needs in order to succeed is drive, motivation and passion. He/she has to know what their end goal is and what they need to do to get it. "Commit to the achievement of the elusive goal in your life" (Arcement, 101). The person has to go about learning what skills will take her or him to be successful. One of the main skills a person should have is persistence. A person must always keep going after his or her goal even if it takes
Education: The Key To The American Dream
Education plays a huge roll in my life. Growing up, my family always prioritizes education. From my point of view, education is the key to a successful lifestyle. I was taught to go to school for an education, so I could apply what I learned into a lifelong career. I believe an education opens opportunities for those who are willing to receive an education. In my perspective, an education is important, so I can become successful and live the "American Dream." Education is an important factor that will contribute to my future.

education important, but also education through life struggles. There are multiple ways to receive an education, and sitting in a classroom is just one of them. I believe being self–educated is also important to life. Everyone has different experiences, learning what others have struggled through can be the greatest education to receive. Also, with the technology we have today, we can learn just by researching on the internet. Learning at least one new thing a day can help contribute to a successful future.
As a student myself, I feel like everyone should have the right to an education. There should not be one person who feels like they don't deserve an education. It is there to give anyone opportunities to be successful. If there is a limit on who can receive an education, how will they expect people to live a considerable life? Money or knowledge shouldn't determine who deserves an education. We need to support people who want to live a good life, instead of looking down on others who struggle with
The Pros And Cons Of Education
Argument
In today's society, it is common knowledge that education is the key to success. The expectations of every parent is for their children to have a great education so that they can ultimately succeed in life. Children who reside in a family with both parents are more likely to have more chances of success than the children who live in a single parent household. Thus, this raises the question: Are children who are raised by a single parent in a low income family or a low income household more susceptible to academic failure than their more privileged peers? Is it easy for children of low income people to succeed at school? Can we admit that the success academic of a child is greatly depends on the school choice and the economic...show more content...
The low income family cannot provide the kids with the tools that they need to work with as computers, books, enjoyable work places. Most of the time, the single parent with a lack of education has multiple jobs but, still find time for the children. In certain cases, there are children who do not have parents that are involved in their academic life, so they turn to the television, which is considered as their educator. Thus, the academic success of children is based in their social location or their social class. On the other hand, children have opportunities to succeed in a diverse learning environment. According to the Residential location choice of immigrant parents, we come to know that the importance of school quality in residential locations increases with household income and householder's education. In fact, the Magnet schools continue to be the models for school improvement, but not all children are fortunate enough to get admitted. Fortunately, these schools have enough funding to provide the students beneficial learning tools and materials to build a successful academic foundation. Magnet schools have the ultimate goal to eliminate, reduce, and prevent minority group isolation. They provide to the
The famed chemist George Washington Carver once said, "Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom"(Carver). If his statement reigns true, why are there over 57 million children not enrolled in school around the world? (UN). As a result, the UN created Global goals to ensure problems like the quality education would be solvable in the future. While Furthermore, one of their goals is the quality of education. While the quality of education can be affected through the addition of more qualified teachers, the quality of education can be improved greatly with access to more resources, without sufficient resources, such as access to the Internet or updated textbooks, many schools' attendance rates will suffer. Some argue that the addition of qualified teachers is the most significant way to improve the quality of education. Admittedly, the addition of qualified teachers is fundamental to a child's success. According to the UNESCO "the shortage of teachers, combined with absenteeism and the lack of qualifications, is a major barrier to learning" (UNESCO). While this may be true, teachers would be almost useless if they didn't have at least the basic materials, such as books and workbooks, to teach their students with. The lack of materials creates disorganization in the classroom and could cause the teacher to become overwhelmed, which might be why absenteeism rates are increasing among teachers. Additionally, there are already successful efforts to increase

I was a high school dropout with no education. What inspired me to go back to school to receive my GED/Diploma was when I realized that I could not be successful in life without an education. The reason I dropped out of high school was due to me hanging around the wrong crowd of friends. The type of friends I hung around did not want anything out of life. David Wallace continues to state that life after college and different things you thought were successful are now becoming a nightmare. "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson is based off a group of people from a village that use to set laws that came from a tradition. In this community a person would get stoned to death if they received a piece of paper with a black dot. How can anyone be successful in a community if individuals are killing someone as a sacrifice each year? It just makes a person feel hopeless. You cannot be successful if you are always surrounded by the wrong people.
Under those circumstances, as an adult your life will come with many needs and wants. As an adult you will feel the need to get a good paying job to support your family. Putting the things you need in life first will help you focus on how to better your family life. Trying to help people who always cry for help will only stop you from succeeding. It is best to make sure your household is taken care of before you decide to help other people. In order to reach your goals in life, you need to avoid all things that could prevent it from happening.
In effect goals and success in life have a big impact on the community. Maybe you could be someone's inspiration. Someone may be in need of help with school work. If they ask for advice, it would be best to help that student out. An example of giving back to
Education is a way for an individual to grow within him or herself to become more educated, and to thrive in life. In order to grow as an individual, you must first enjoy the adventure of planning, the thrill of accomplishment and yet be able to cope with the labors needed to succeed. It took him quite awhile to decide what he wanted to major in; he finally chose business, it was a broad major, but was a very workable major. He was so excited about his first day of college; we purchased all of his needs and moved him into his dorm. His appearance was that of a kid in a candy shop; his eyes were wide and full of joy and excitement. He called home every week with his updates and experiences; he appeared to be doing very well. His 2nd year of college he found himself on the Dean's list. This did not come easy; he dedicated all of his time and hard work to his studies. We were so proud of his accomplishment. As time went on, he was constantly calling, but no longer with updates with his studies, now it was about joining this group, and pledging that fraternity. By his 3rd year of college, his grades were dropping; he was not studying as much as he was in the beginning and he was now partying. He grew bored of his classes associated with business; his friends were in marketing so he changed his major to marketing. He never took ownership for his grades failing or his excessive partying. We had long talks with him about making more of an effort with his studies and less on his social life. The more we discussed his failing grades the more he blamed us for being in school, not remembering it was his idea to be the first from his family to graduate. Today, it has been eight years since he started school
Key to Success in Life
"Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students" – Solomon Ortiz
Do you agree with this quotation? Thai society believes that education is the key to make them or their child success in their life. It's true but not totally true. Education is one part of successful. It's not the whole thing to make us success.
Most of Thai parents will support or coerce their child to study in famous school such as Triam Udom Suksa School, Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School and Satriwitaya School which they trust that this academic can make their child smarter than other students and they will have more chance to achieve in admission. Another belief of them is encouraging their child to study in top three private universities in Thailand as Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University and Kasertsart University because it can lead student to find better career so they will have greater future than student who graduate from public university.
Moreover, most of us believe that the higher education degree you have the greater accomplishment you will. However, it has someone who doesn't have a chance to study in university because they are poor so they need to work so hard to find money to stay alive.
As I mention at first that education is not the whole thing to make our life success. Why? Because some of achievement people don't graduate from private university and some of them have the highest education level
Literacy Is The Key For Future Success Essay
Literacy is the key to future success. We have all heard this cliché, but as a future English teacher I passionately believe literacy is the key to success! When students become good readers, the door to a world of information is opened, and I want to see that door open for my students. As an English teacher who would like to work at the middle school level, I know the value of literacy and I hope to promote the best literacy practices in my classroom. This will not be an easy task, as reading scores for seventeen years olds have remained unchanged in over thirty years. (Fisher & Frey, 2012) At the secondary level students continuously fail to make significant progress in reading and writing, and I believe this is impart because of the changing curricular demands and because students are not developing an identity as readers and writers. (Biancarosa & Snow, 2004)
As students progress through their education they are met with an increasing demand to read non–fiction works. These non–fiction texts provide challenges that were not presented in their earlier experiences with reading. Biancarosa calls this the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. (Biancaros, 2012) As a middle school teacher I must provide the additional support that my students will need to transition to the literacy demands of high school. I believe that to scaffold non–fiction text, students must learn to self–regulate their reading. As an English teacher, I need to educate my students
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world;" this simple statement by South Africa's first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela, expresses a fundamental truth of the world– something as simple as education can change everything. A constantly changing geopolitical environment has continued to place increasing amounts of emphasis on obtaining a post–secondary school education. Despite this, as many as 16% of all Americans ages 16–24 drop out before completing a secondary school education and obtaining a diploma.(1) The question which few dare to consider, which I now find myself faced with, is simple: how my education is the key to a successful future. What my education will culminate in is making me aware of all that goes on around me, both directly and indirectly, and the reasoning and motivations behind it. By obtaining a premium education, by understanding the reasoning behind what I do, I will be able to quickly and confidently assess any situation and make decisions that will further the goals of democracy and peace. "I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion." With this simple statement Mia Hamm exemplifies the importance of considering one's self as part of the group rather than a stand alone individual. In accordance with this, assessing how my education is the key to a successful future must not be limited to my individual future, but rather to how my education will benefit society as a whole. A powerful high school education, one which allows for the discovery of the operational parameters of society, which enumerates cultural misunderstandings and fosters understanding, is the first step. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Education
Education is undeniably vital and essential for people from all walks of life. Education is the key to success, and as we all know it, there are too many reason why education is important in our lives but none on the disadvantages of it because education only brings benefits towards us. According to Oxford Dictionary, the word 'education' is derived from Latin, ēducātiō in the mid–16th century and is defined as "the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university." The origin of education began as story–telling passed knowledge and now it has taken up to 3 forms of education which is; formal education, informal education and non–formal education. Students are often heard whining to their parents about school and finding a thousand and one excuses not to go to school but as little as we realize, schools actually help build our character and leads us to our career progression. An educated individual is capable of planning for the future, choosing the right decisions in life and behaving appropriately. Education is not only a pathway to our career but also paves the path to disillusionment. It gives us the insight on what is right and wrong, making clear judgements and shapes our personalities. The nation's growth depends on the literacy of the people. "Education is much more than an entry to the job market. It has the power to shape a sustainable future and better world." (Unknown, 2012) With the help of education, one can easily get an entry of a job while at the same time help develop the nation. Most countries realized that in this competitive world, education is important for the social progress and economic growth of a nation. As John F. Kennedy quotes, "our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource." In simple words, brain beats brawn, which is used to define a country. A country with no education cannot win over a country with enhanced technology and strategic
Education Is The Most Powerful Weapon Essay
Throughout our history, most of the revolutions were turning points that contributed and improved the modern society that we are living now. Social reformers such as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson have been spreading the message that education is crucial in leading to a successful life.
